Thrawn pointing out the vulnerabilities in the Empire that inevitably led to its downfall just proves once again why he is one of the greatest antagonists in sci-fi and fantasy history. Just like Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders, *He Thinks.*

@@thedarkknight2221 That's what the show says, but in practice literally all he's doing is sitting on his ass at the end of every episode. He's a completely passive villain and it's very boring to watch. "Ohoho all according to plan" with no further elaboration at the end of every episode. He's Dr Klaww saying "I'll get you next time, Gadget!"
Hell, the one major character death in Rebels has nothing to do with him. Any imperial could have tracked down the rebel base and launched the attack, there was nothing special happening there, they just attacked with superior firepower. No interesting tactics needed.
Because he doesn't actually *do* anything until the finales, he's incredibly boring. Season 4 especially, he literally shows up in the last 10 minutes and instantly gets defeated. You couldn't have had him around for at least an episode?!
And he's just near incompetent in Ahsoka.

@@tortoiseoflegends4466 remember in episode 1, he purposely let the rebels escape because he knew that wasn’t the main force and if he DID kill them he would have to wait for another set of Rebels whose tactics and strategies wouldn’t have been as easy to exploit. He also brilliantly let Callus/Fulcrum keep giving Phoenix squad intel so that inevitably he could track them down, and he did.

I admire Thrawn in this episode, simply by how accurate he is to his book character than all his other appearances. We get to hear his thoughts on the Empire as explored in the books, why he stands out from everyone else. He recognizes the flaws that would eventually doom it, wanting to fix them.

Samee, but I can't help but feel blue-balled by how they made Thrawn so accurate, new model and all, just to most likely never have him animated agian. His story is now constrained to rebels and rebels part 2- I mean, Ahsoka

    • @anthonyyoutubefan7567

One has to understand that, the Thrawn We see in Ahsoka, is one who has been exiled from the known galaxy for about 11 years. NO ONE comes back from that the exact same person they were before. His experiences have changed...his understanding of space travel is changed...his first-hand knowledge of The Dathomiri and Nightsister Magick dwarfs what he knew during his time with The Empire...his awareness of the powers of The Force are completely altered...just like, once he finds out that Lord Vader has offspring who are both strong with The Force, his mindset and battle strategies will react and adapt. That's the brilliance of Filoni's writing: We're seeing Thrawn in different ways, during different time periods in his life.

Thrawn from the books didn't know Pellaeon at this point. They met each other for the first time in Thrawn: Treason a few hours before the finale of Star Wars Rebels last season. It's a retcon. It should have been Kharyn Faro, not Pellaeon but Filoni doesn't give a shit.

Thrawn is in Rebels and Ashoka dumb and nothing near brilliant, do you know why? because the writers like Filoni are incompetent. We need People like Tony Gilroy (Andor) and not Filonis, that cant write good Storys. Animated storys to write, is more easy. Because of this there so good working in Star Wars.

Most likely, the dialogue was part of Dave Filoni's story structure for the whole series. The Thrawn We see here with Morgan, is not the same one We see on Peridea, probably decades later. @@anthonyyoutubefan7567 I do certainly hope we get more animated SW content but as of right now, for the first time since the cancelation of clone wars, we don't have any confirmed future line-up of animated projects. I don't doubt we'll get more Tales of the Jedi/Empire though, and I'm fairly certain we'll be getting an Asajj Ventress show in the future. On the topic of Thrawn though, I understand what you're saying, but I feel the main allure of Thrawn is his wits, which are seemingly dulled in Ahsoka. To new fans who haven't read the books or watched rebels, we're only told that he is a threat to the ENTIRE GALAXY. But he doesn't really do anything to show that. There wasn't a single moment in Ahsoka where I was like "Oh woah that's actually really smart, this guy could be a problem", he just acts as a typical imperial officer bad guy. Though I'm hoping in season 2 we get a moment of him showcasing his strategic genius against the New Republic in maybe a large scale space skirmish or something. But I know that none of the main characters will die so the stakes are still pretty low.

@@Coolgame6812 I absolutely expect to see an even darker, more calculating, and even borderline cut-throat Thrawn, now that he's arrived back in the known galaxy, and is operating from Dathomir. He was in a compromised, desperate state, when We encountered him in Ahsoka, on Peridea. Now, he has The Remnant Empire at his disposal. Don't worry...it's going to be fine. Filoni is presenting Thrawn in different periods and states of power and ability, and his respective handling of them. I will be rather shocked, if, within the next 6 months, it isn't announced that We'll be getting a SW: The Hidden Path Animated series; esp. since certain voice actors have hinted that their days of portraying certain characters AREN'T over. From Ventress' appearance in TBB, to Barriss Offee and Lyn Rakish's dramatic dynamic in TOTE, to the hints that The Clones will be forces to be reckoned with in the time of The Empire, to Emerie Karr working with Senator Chuchi on Pantora, and Ahsoka and other displaced Jedi (inc. Jedi Master Kelleran Beq and Grogu), Padawans, and potential Force-sensitives (like the 4 abducted kids from Mount Tantiss) scattered throughout the galaxy...THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING AFOOT. Heck, I'd LOVE a 2-hr. Animated theatrical release of The Hidden Path, in the tradition of Lucas and Filoni's The Clone Wars movie from 2008, heralding this new major SW story, then continuing it on Disney +, not long after.

so upon a second watch I've realised the reason they show venators alongside a single imperial star destroyer isn't to suggest this is early days empire but is in fact in order to contrast with the end of the episode where Thrawn has three star destroyers show up which he claims "is just a portion of my fleet". Its to show Thrawn is more powerful than the Moff seen earlier in the episode and will make a much better ally for Morgan than the Moff ever could have been. Should be noted in current canon venators are still in use by some in the Empire as late as 2bby as one is shown in age of rebellion darth vader which star wars timelines dates as occuring in 2bby.

Oh yeah. Great perspective. I had those thoughts but it was because I wondered why Thrawn was able to take over the operations instead of the Moff coming in. I thought maybe he was lying to the Moff in some way or that Thrawn would "take care of it" and send falsified reports. Perhaps not, since I am sure many in the Empire would find an excuse possible to end Thrawn. It is interesting to think of, though.

I see some people are so quick to jump at Filoni for supposed plot holes. I'm referring to Pellaeon showing to be working with Thrawn earlier than the books made it seem. I'll admit, I had the same thoughts at first. That said, we don't know the full context, just because he's not directly under Thrawn at the time of the book doesn't mean never was before. Also, it's not like George Lucas didn't make errors as well within his own continuity. (Looking at you 'Leia somehow remembers her mother despite her dying during child birth') Mistakes happen. Nothing is perfect. So why don't we all take a step back, give the creators the benefit of doubt and just enjoy these fun stories we are getting.

Seems simple enough to me that Pellaeon could've been working with Thrawn off the books (no pun intended).
That may be why there's a distance maintained in what we see between them here. If Pellaeon didn't think there was enough potential in working with Morgan, the next stage wouldn't have happened and Morgan would have no idea who the "superior" is.

    • @codefreak8

It's a mythology. Even "real" mythologies have different perspectives of the same events which may lead to inconsistencies depending on who is telling the story and what their goal is in telling it. In this case, Pellaeon being with Thrawn in this moment served a purpose for the story being told. It's totally possible to smooth it over by having Pellaeon already being enamoredwith Thrawn and being willing to do jobs for him under the table while not officially being a part of his fleet. It's typical for people who work with and like Thrawn to do unconventional things the rest of the Imperial Navy would dislike.

So she lets her hate out against who? And the thing with the defender is also a little bit weird. I mean her whole life she was using and focousing on her magic with her tribe. You never see the nightsisters use any kind of technology or even fly ships(except for ventress). But after 5 to 7 years shes able to create the most advanced star fighter out of nowhere. Also, it's not like George Lucas didn't make errors as well within his own continuity. (Looking at you 'Leia somehow remembers her mother despite her dying during childbirth') Mistakes happen. Nothing is perfect. So why don't we all take a step back, give the creators the benefit of the doubt, and just enjoy these fun stories we are getting. Seeing Morgan be the brains behind the TIE Defender, her meeting with Thrawn, & her fight seems really cool. And we meet yet another short-sighted Imperial Officer
They need to get Thrawn into the universe pronto. And by that, I mean as the main antagonist in the movies. Not just in the animated and TV shows, which don't receive the same attention.
Now that he's arrived in the SW galaxy, he needs to make his mark and impact... otherwise, we'll have another "somehow he returned" moment and everything will be off-screen. those star destroyers almost look like real models, they even have a little slope in the front like those models from Rogue One. Many thanks to Eric, Calvin was wrong he was lying, and Aaron! were that hat was Thrawn's voice is so soothing The fight in this Episode was Top 5 in Star Wars Animation!! Godly shots as well!! & the music Aaron saying: "Is this the guy older in Ashoka?" Just ask is this the old lady Calvin keeps calling out wrong? Hhaahahhahahaha Was so pumped to see Rukh I have been looking forward to this I need to watch some more of that fighting, so it doesn't seem fast-forwarded to me :^) Her fighting style with the speer is the classical Chinese style they do stabbing at another one's head ... there are vids of it, it's a tournament or smth This episode was just perfect I mean the tie Defender project, pavilion ruck, and Thrawn all together was just a perfect moment. Lars once again had a flawless performance as the grand admiral and he I think was even more bone-chilling in tales of the Zeb Orrelios reaction mashup appearance than Ashoka was in it. I love to how Thrawn always knew the empire would crumble his fellow officers thought he was arrogant for seeing that but in the end, he was only ever trying to offer the truth about what was to come.

That's exactly why she turned into such a cruel ruler. She wanted revenge for those atrocities, but there was no real target to take revenge on. Then she gets visions from the Great mothers and realizes she can bring Dathomir back.

Man they turned on Elsbeth so quickly. She tried her best but was screwed over by Imperial greed and they were all ready to burn the witch. I completely empathise with why she wouldn't feel bad with how she treats them later.

just realised i think the continunitiy is a bit messed up with this, Thrawn recruits palleon when he exposes Grand Admiral Saviits tech stealing ring. Thrawn is already a grand admiral at that point and is already working on the tie defender program, however in this episode hes only an Admiral and Palleon is working under him.

I really wanted it to be Eli Vanto instead of Pallaeon, but Eli is only known from the new books and Pallaeon has a richer Easter egg, even if it's a little incongruent with book canon (not crucially as there are work arounds)

This episode frustrates me to no end. It once again is so obvious that nobody involved has read the Thrawn books and that nobody from the story group dares to say no to Dave.
It would have been so easy to make this episode perfectly align to them, simply by having anyone else put palleon meeting with Elsbeth

i mean from memory there's nothing really in Thrawn treason to suggest that Captain Palleon isn't already working with thrawn. Just because he's currently assigned to Savit in Thrawn treason doesn't mean he isn't already working with Thrawn, he's just not directly under his command. Him perhaps secretly having been working with Thrawn could explain why he sides with thrawn against Savit so quickly and why Savit already had a sense Palleon wasn't fully loyal to him.

@@lichcoin6144 I don't think it'd make sense for Eli to be allowed at the kinda meeting shown in the episode given his role within the navy and i think he's also still fairly low ranked at this point in the timeline. I forget when exactly he gets his long overdue promotion. Its been a while.
