I love how this game represents small towns, this is definitely how it is in small towns. Doing random stupid stuff such as smashing light bulbs and going to kids events, but being surrounded by the history.

We actually have an abandoned factory in Romeo that was built in 1843, we built a base inside of it :)
The best part is that even someone like me,who doesn't live in a *necessarily* small town,but just in like,a small part of the city,kind of on the "outskirts"(or something like that) ,can still relate to this. Exploring abandoned buildings for fun, going to local festivals , people wanting to move to the city etc. I feel like it got the atmosphere perfectly.

I kind of wish that Jack had stopped and paid more attention to that one, because that's exactly what Mae's been experiencing. I also wonder if that might have had something to do with Mae's "softball incident" too. But regardless, Mae's parents may have bought their house and didn't know that it was still affected. Short version: Houses on Larch St were evacuated after it was discovered that gas buildup in the basements was causing people to hear voices and see things that weren't there. It culminated in a child running out into the night and drowning himself in a pond after saying something to a sibling about a song.
Mae's recurring dreams involve her assembling the pieces of a song.

Im rewatching this game after a few years and the things Mae is going through hit me way too close to home now. I feel like im the only one out of my friends that hasent gotten their shit together. Im so lost and overwhelmed by the world. Havent had a job. No car. Yet the pressure to just be an adult all the sudden is there. Its so hard not to feel like a failure. The argument she had with her mom felt very real too, like one I may have had with my parents. Ugh.

I absolutely love this game because the more I play it, the more I understand certain elements. For example, in case you don't know, you can find out the origins of the old tooth that Mae found in the basement. When Mae goes to the library and looks on the computer for articles about ghosts, you can find an article that talks about a labor union that assaulted their boss and pulled out all his teeth. Each member of the union kept one of his teeth to pass down from generation to generation. So this tells us that Mae's grandfather was one of the members of this group and the tooth that she found is of the boss from whom they pulled out of.

This episode always hits hard when i watch it, being the "smart kid" and the straight A- AP student Success and being more than what you are was expected. Art was discouraged and treated like a useless distraction. So when mental health stuff and school fatigue got the best of me, College just seemed and seems impossible. And without the encouragement to pursue my passions its taking a longer time to catch up and learn. Either way is stress too since becoming "something" when your an adult is imperative unless you want to be a useless member of society. Its taking time to unlearn all that junk and just chill and vibe and heal.
Seriously take your time, especially if its effecting your mental wellbeing.

This tooth has personal significance to her grandfather because it was involved with some ritual the miners had, yanking out the teeth of the corpse of their old boss. I think. There's more information about it in the library articles. I do not know if there's more that can happen with this tooth or any further backstory about it we'll discover.

When started talking about college at around 10:30 that hit so close to home. Currently im in college, with a 20,000/semester tuition. Im not at all happy because what i want to do with my life has more to do with the passion behind the art of it and less to do with numbers. I have severe ADD so lectures just don't work for me at all. I would rather learn im the real world. But I also understand the power the paper will give you after graduation. At this point its basically a toss up of my own happiness or progressing my career on the fast track. It really sucks going to uni in america man.

Well, in fairness, it has been pretty dark for a while, so, yeah...
College is a big discussion. I've never been more unhappy in all my life than when I was a student. Trying to please professors. Overloading my class schedule like crazy. Being on constant burn out mode and it was never good enough. I went for 4 years before dropping out. That was 6 years ago now. But I still feel that guilt and angst because now I have $40k in debt without that stupid piece of paper to show that I accomplished anything at all. I felt better about it once I got married and my daughter came along. I feel like being a good wife/mom was always my purpose and I'm happy. But there's always that twinge that comes every month when the student loan bills are due or when people ask about my nonexistent degree. Oh well. I suppose there's a reason in all of it.

If it makes you feel any better, I got that stupid paper but I still get shit from my family and husband for not having a better job. I honestly wish I'd never gone to college in the first place. Trade school would have been a better option and opened up more job opportunities with better pay and I wouldn't have as much debt to pay off. All the voices are so perfect for the characters wow, having a great time with this series during lockdown
the traversal is probably one of my favorite parts of this game. its mostly a visual novel kind of situation so they didnt need to go so hard but the fact that the 2d styling is sewn into every fabric that makes up this game kills me(positive). the way mae can almost seamlessly transition between different planes is so satisfying to see and very smooth feeling. not to mention her ability to jump from place to place (even from objects on different planes) makes the traversal so interesting and fills this game with life, I seriously cannot imagine this game with out the roof climbing (dont even get me started on how this reinforces maes CHARACTER too). its so impressive to be able to inject so much interest into a style that could very easily come off as flat and lifeless, the fact that interesting traversal isnt necessary at all for this type of game and they STILL ADDED IT never fails to amaze me. I will never stop coming back to night in the woods

The three of them were super close, and even committed "crimes" together. You would think you'd be able to recognize the severed arm of one of your closest friends, right?

It’s my first semester and I’m scared to screw up because I mainly go because my parents would be so proud and they’d always say that I’m the first one to go to uni since they didn’t have the chance to. I’m too scared to choose music or art majors because my parents would be disappointed and we can’t afford good art majors (they’re kinda expensive where I live). Problem is, I don’t know what else I could do.

I rewatch this occasionaly, heck I even bought the game and everytime I read the dialog I always hear it in jack's voice. I absolutely love it when he reads and adds extra dialog, for example he adds an extra "hon" when talking in the mom's voice. Completely in character!

You know, the way the Janitor called Mae a "young witch", even though she was playing a old witch. He was warning her about how the end was near, and how she was to face it sooner or later. We also know that Mae has been having strange dreams that tie into her disassociation with reality, that maybe it's not just her feeling of hopelessness, but that she has some kind of super natural abilities, since she also heard the sound of the Black Goat in her dreams. Is Mae meant to have some kind of powers that have to do with witchcraft?

Maybe the janitor called her young because he was acting as the god of the forest and since the witch was born in the forest that means that the forest god is older than the witch and maybe she is called the "old witch" because she is old by human standards
I will never get over Jack's enthusiasm for story telling and changing accents for characters.

I have to say. I'm glad that you are doing the voices. Your acting added so much charm to the game, it made me get over how much I hate slacker characters. All the sacrifices that her family did for her, and she threw them away. Her parents are looking at losing their house IN ORDER TO SEND MAE TO COLLEGE, and she dropped out. She's been home for some time, and she has made no effort to get a job.
I can see just how frustrated Bea is with her. Bea was forced to grow up and she's struggled to keep the family business running. Mae slacked off, wasted her chances, and now she's got nothing to show for it. Less than nothing for all the sacrifices her family made.

When this series came out I wasn't into games like this, but now I really like this. The voices Jack gives the characters are very fun, and the good old outro gives me joy.
