If I remember correctly, metal blades were banned in a lot of schools because they developed razor sharp edges from walking over concrete and other hard surfaces around less specialised sports fields. One of my friends had to go and get stitches in his shin after an encounter with some Adidas Predators when we were in school in the late 90s
Yeah our local sunday league banned them for a few years as supposedly a 1:1 with a keeper and the striker was wearing metal blades and sliced his leg open
i live in australia and kangaroos are legally pests. They are extremely over populated and are still used in many products here, and their meat can be found in most butchers. Interesting that other countries ban it but not Australia itself.
@@theshovl3r Thing is: The kangaroos used to make the leather aren't the wild plagues from Australia, they're actually raised on farms in order to do so.

I totally understand the metal boots. Playing baseball growing up, we used metal spikes after a certain age. If you got stepped on, WOW they hurt like hell. But, the ground grip interaction was insane, and they technically were legal, so we all dealt with the random spikes to the top of the foot
Great vid, one small correction from an American viewer, Kangaroo leather was banned by just the California state government. The federal government refers to the governing body of the entire United States, who have discussed a k-leather ban but haven't done it
Agreed. Also a note that no one in California is checking your boots when you play a game to see if they kangaroo leather. Buddy of mine has two pairs.

In Argentina, for about a decade or so, the AFA made a rule that Goalkeepers were banned from wearing pants and socks of a different color than the rest of the team. So, if the team they were playing for were wearing yellow pants and black socks, for example, they were required to wear those color of pants and socks too. Only their jerseys were to be of a different color from the rest of the team. That rule remained from the early 70s until the late 80s. And I really couldn't tell you why they implemented such a rule.

Yea Ik in our youth league (in the us) some kids will have those replaceable studs. About half plastic half metal and if you have metal you gotta be careful and can get treated more harsh by the ref
8:55 “It was banned in California by the federal government.” As an American I feel like helping you out here, to tell you that that’s the equivalent of saying “It was banned in Germany by the EU government.” In the United States, the term “federal government” refers to the governing body of the larger United States, which would be unable to pass a law that would only be in effect in a single state. Anything specific to California would be passed by the California state government. (It’s kinda like how the UK has 4 countries in it, except the US has 50.) I know this may sound nit picky, but I just wanted to inform you about the terminology here. Not trying to criticize you, just telling you about American government :D Great vid mate, really enjoyed it!
I'm glad we've finally got clarity on metal blades, some say they are banned, but then with retro boots everywhere I see them most weekends on people's feet. I can't find the ban anywhere. So they aren't banned just frowned upon. Thanks fella! Also, I think you test was a little harsh, surely it should have been metal studs v metal blades???
I don't think colourful boots are anywhere near as popular now as they were 10 years ago. Everyone use to wear vibrant and extremely light boots, now it's gone back to black and quite often leather-style boots.
Several things about the last one 1. I thought there was a surplus of kangaroos? 2. Kangaroo =evil, but cow is fine? 3. Is this synthetic leather made from plastic? I suspect it is. I thought we were supposed to be reducing plastic pollution? Natural is better, it'd at least be biodegradable.
Ajax's " Bob Marley" shirt, got 3 little birds on the top of the back. But it was not aloud by the UEFA. So they had to play their matches without the 3 little birfs referring to the song
When my family wants to order kangaroo leather cleats we order from out of state so we could still use them in California it’s just hard to get ahold of
This does not change the fact that in Australia there are 48 million kangaroos and in Uruguay there are 3,457,380 inhabitants. So if the kangaroos decide to invade Uruguay, each Uruguayan will have to fight 14 kangaroos.
I literally tore both my ACL's wearing those exact same predator cleats. The first was my left, when I was 16, then recovered fully in 6 months, started playing again using vapors, then one game I forgot my vapors because I took them out of my bag to clean them from the previous week as that game had some nasty weather, but i had my old predators in the bag, wore them and tore my right ACL in that game. Never bought an adidas product again after that second injury.
Concerning the black boots only rule, I kind of see a logic there. You're there to train and develop your skills. You should be focused on that and not your kit. I'd have a caveat that I would take the boots if I was planning on bringing them up to the main squad and use them as a "promotion trophy" to say, "You've earned the right to wear these."
I rarely agree with Ferguson but on footballers looking professional and maintaining a certain image I am fully on board. Same with Dyche, maybe it's a bit old school but these are highly paid professionals, they can stand to be a little chilly in training. As my old manager used to say, if you are cold you aren't working hard enough.
Another reason I think UEFA aren’t so keen about the metal studs is because of the South Africa incident in 1998 that left all 11 players on one side dead (it’s because of stormy winds, lighting hit the ground, and disaster struck.)
Metal blades are brutal as a defender I always used the metal stud in the 22 years but those metal blades if you wanted to cause a serious slicing injury boom there you go. So dangerous steel blades
This is why people like international kits more than club kits. The designs are so much cooler. Look at Japan. Sick designs. Not sure why that's a rule tbh.
I think that clubs like man city/United. Should allow solid color boots. Like say a mostly red or mostly blue boot, but not boots that have like 5 or more weird colors on them. because a lot of company just don’t make black boots for a while after they release them.
