    Caution! There has been several comments saying the bottom bracket is where the cable to the assist spring attaches. This can be dangerous! My door bracket was designed in two pieces to facilitate changing the roller. Inspect before removing the bracket or remove a section of track to pull the roller. Thanks for calling this to my attention guys!

      Great video. Very helpful. Note: C-clamps are good to hold the door panels together too.
      Question to your point here: If the door is up, then isn't tension off the cable such that the lower bracket can be removed to replace the roller? Thanks!

    My new 8’ x 16’ CHI door with nylon rollers and new Liftmaster belt drive opener is really quiet. I got this info from my son-in-law. He bought this opener because his daughter’s bedroom is above the door. It is so quiet that it no longer wakes her up when she’s sleeping. I was amazed when I didn’t hear it in the house. Normally you can hear the opener operate, not now!

    On most garages the very bottom bracket holding the roller is one piece and holding all the tension from the cables, if you unattached it with tension on those springs, it will fly right at you at dangerous speeds and making what we call a “hung door” meaning only one cable has tension. Please check before touching, you can also try disengaging the motor then going to your tracks where they transition from vertical to horizontal and put a slight bend at the top of the vertical track and take a long screwdriver and pop the bottom roller out, this will be much safer👍

    With the hinges, the bottom bolt/screw will always align the hinge exactly as it was removed, because it's not slotted for adjustment. If you start by installing the bottom hinge bolt first, the other 3 will fall into place. Just work bottom to top on the hinge. Also, if you note, the barrel of the hinge (not the barrel that holds the roller) is always horizontally centered on the split between the two garage door panels so the door and hinge and panels can fold properly. If you happen not to mark your hinges and can't tell where the bolt holes were, just remember that piece of advice. I'm not a garage door tech, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.😂 I do like how he hand tightened the bolts/screws because that sheet metal can be unforgiving with a power driver.

    me as a professional garage technician, I would not recommend anybody to take bottom bracket like that, you could hurt yourself really bad, why?? because in the bottom bracket is where the cable is connected with the springs which definitely has a lot of tension in the door, and that could make the door go off track and damage the door or yourself. taking the sidetrack out would be safer than taking out the bottom bracket or you could just get somebody professional to do it for you.

    To anyone who is going to read this. DO NOT DO WHAT HE DID TO THE BOTTOM BRACKET! I am a garage door technician. That will severely hurt you. I have been to plenty of homes where customers tried to do their own rollers and I’m out there working in peoples blood stains. Garage doors have hundreds of pounds of tension to make that door function and not be a wall. Be a responsible home owner, get someone out who is a licensed, and insured company or contractor and have them do your garage door repair. It isn’t worth a multi thousand dollar hospital bill compared to 3-500 bucks. Also, I can tell you that based on that age, those springs will be broken within the next two years.

    • @farmtruck9885
      @farmtruck9885 2 роки тому +5

      Thats exactly why nobody calls a garage door guy, 3-500 bucks to change 10 rollers and put some grease on it. Maybe 2 hour job. I changed my 10 rollers and 4 pulleys in 2 hours, still have all my fingers and no blood loss and 3-500 dollars in my pocket. It's not a mars rover.

    • @splxty2897
      @splxty2897 2 роки тому +1

      And to the response I must ask, what credentials do you have to tell me if your doors in good shape? It runs? So does most cars with knocking motors. Doesn’t mean they’re not almost shot. I applaud you. But you’re putting in the worst quality parts.

    • @farmtruck9885
      @farmtruck9885 2 роки тому +1

      @@splxty2897 So that means the qualified installer, installed the worst quality parts to start out with. Not helping your case. So you have to be a garage door installer to use high quality parts, I don't think so. By the way I could rebuild that knocking engine, because I am GM certified master mechanic. How many weeks of class and OJT training did you have to become an installer? Not that difficult. Like I said it's not the mars rover. But good for you.

    There is so much bad advice in this video... Yes, you can change your own rollers and yes, you can apply your own lubricant, but ... change that bent hinge, check the cables for fray, lubricate the springs and shaft bearings, lubricate the roller shafts, upgrade the rollers to nylon ball bearing etc, etc.. and never never unbolt the bottom bracket!
    Anybody can fix a door just as anybody can run wires or hammer a nail. That does not mean the work is right or safe.

    A word of caution, the red cord disconnect, when released will spring back the latch. So if somebody were to push the button it would la latch and attempt to move the door. The safer alternative might be to remove the pin or bolt on the bracket/arm that connects the door to the trolley.

    the little dents in the track affect nothing, you dont replace all the rollers because one is bad, thats screwing the customer, and putting vice grips on the track the way you did is asking for door to blow past them if you really want to secure the door leaver operator connected and just unplug it.and all that clutch adjustment is useless just use the correct tool for the job....an impact! there is no need to remove the entire top roller fixture just use the roller holder only one sometimes two screws and you never ever remove screws from bottom fixture!!!! you use a pry bar and pop the roller out of the track to change it out the bottom fixture is what holds the entire weight of the door! you take the wrong screws out of that fixture and it will shoot skyward causing way more damage that a roller not to mention personal injury. with all that grease you put in the trolly it will be on the floor in no time. and to beat all you didnt lube the one thing that would of done the most good...the springs! you can put a a layer of vasoline on them every 6 months and they will serve many years. after spending 40+ yrs in the door business it never ceases to amaze me all the people who think doors are a good do it yourself project, and you didnt adjust the track either that was your biggest cause of noise.....im sure you think door works better but other than the top right roller there was nothing wrong with that6 door.....
