I honestly love oldsona’s gameplay, I get why people don’t like it but it stratches an itch in my brain due to how organized everything feels. Mordernsona has so many systems that feel over complex at risk of the player getting bored or whatever.
I think the reason for there being so many different rumours about each shop is to help the player get and sell equipment more efficiently: for example, you can spread a rumour that one Rosa Candida branch sells expensive high-quality armour, and then spread a rumour that the other branch has a mediocre selection, but buys stuff for a high price. That way you could sell armour to the latter, and get enough money to buy from the former. However, the game's so easy that you could go through it entirely without having to change anyone's equipment (that's what I did), so this mechanic is practically useless.
This is probably the reason, but the problem is that money is never an issue throughout the entire game, at least it wasn't for me. They must have realized it with Eternal Punishment cause that game's rumor system is WAY better
I do think that as far as the gameplay's parts concerned playing the PSP version makes it even worse. the fights last longer because someone at ATLUS decided to go artsy on the UI and this results in extremely long padded out time on setting up every action on each party member. the ps1 version takes half of the time and there is a video you can find that compares how quick it is to go through the commands and PSP is way longer than ps1's by a long shot. I completed Innocent Sin back in 2013, by way of Gemini's translation for the PS1. While it was somewhat rough around the edges, the game was greatly immersive and challenging at times, but IIRC, there's a drastic re-balance between the PS1 and the PSP versions. The latter was watered down in terms of difficulty (if the rumours are true... oh!) hence your observations. Those dish stat increases weren't permanent in the OG version (?) but I too was annoyed by the slow nature of the random encounters. On top of that, I wanted to one-shot the final couple of bosses so I decided to grind for Alice in the abandoned factory. It was like having a part time job, but man, it was totally worth it to not drag out the final battle more than was necessary. This is a game carried by its story, so if you're in it for the gameplay, you might be disappointed unless you like dungeon crawlers and their general quirks. If you want the genuine article, I'd suggest the PS1 version.
Persona 2 IS would benefit from a remake the most as the story, characters, and music are all good but the gameplay being more like the combat in recent games would be amazing

That's really strange, because in my country (i'm in france) most who have played the game appreciate the gameplay. So i don't know what to think. Maybe our opinion and appreciation of this types of gameplay is different in my country. because personally, i kinda liked it (as well as Persona 1.)

I think Persona 2 is one of the most amazing stories of all Persona series in my opinion (the other is Persona 4). However, what I heard is that Atlus just wants to remaster it but not remake it.
Innocent Sin was definitely a fun game minus the difficulty. Eternal Punishment was definitely the sequel it deserved considering the game play. But for both gameplay, the fusion spells were fun to play with.
Played through IS for the first time last year after owning it for years (bought it when it was cheap but never played it other than to see if the umd worked) and I felt very similarly. Actual top tier story marred by insufferably easy and monotonous gameplay. I stuck through it though bc the story is just that compelling. I had to look up a guide to understand fusion but I also just decided to not fuse anything. I fused two personas for cheap healing and fusion spells and stopped there. Planning on playing Eternal Punishment some day but I have other games I plan on beating first.
🤔I probably won't ever play it unless they remake it in the gameplay play style like persona 3-5, but I would agree that the story of both games is good, watch a video on UA-cam explaining the games, and yes it is a great story as a whole.
i feel like remaking oldsona to play like 3-5 has a lot of problems to it. for starters you don't have the life sim (unless atlus rewrites the whole thing to shove it in which i doubt they would do that) so already it would be seen as less appealing from the get go for newcomers by virtue of the newer games mesh with it better (it would be like episode aigis but as full game in length) a lot of other issues come up with this like how all characters in oldsona aren't restricted to one persona and instead have a semi fool and can wield a vast amount of them and can equip 3 at once and there is also the additional elements that the modern games have never implemented. the gameplay style for oldsona would better off using eternal punishment's built in foundation and building off from there you might as well stick to something that roughly stands out on it's own rather than dumbing down the whole thing of what's the most digestable especially how the stories of oldsona were written with the older gameplay style in mind

Off topic but when you get to playing p2 eternal punishment,I would reccomend playing it with the original ost instead of the remixed psp one since a lot of the remixes take away some of the musical instruments that were in the og music. The final boss theme of innocent sin is probably the biggest example of that. If you ever get the chance listen to the og music of the final boss of IS and you'll notice the difference between it and it's remixed rendition.
EP's PSP ost is a bit better than IS's as a whole. less crazy on the guitar it only gets worn down by having to reuse IS tracks and there are mods to insert fanmade versions like philemon's boss theme

I played ps1 version, maybe it's harder, but I really had to fuse new personas and play with fusion spells to win some battles, overall I really enjoyed p2 battle system tho persona acquiring and encounter rate were tedious. I think eternal punishment improves quite a lot on difficulty aspect, tho some find it too high of a spike comparing to IS. You'd probably need to get new personas on second or third dungeon already, or else bosses would destroy you
Idk what version you're playing but it's definitely not the original, you should clarify that in the video. I played it on PS1 and it definitely wasn't "brain-dead easy" and you wouldn't blitz through the game with default personas. Unless there's an easy setting or something I didn't notice on PS1

I thnin you're a little bit exagerating about negocations I mean yes it takes time and it's absolutly useless to go through the game But it's not that much annoying When you find out what command make the demon eager it becomes faster to farm a specific arcana With a pact you can add free cards (and i recommand to farm a high amount of free cards because it's the only stat that will be transfered in eternal punishment) and free cards really save your day I would like if there was a second story like the snow queen quest that force you to use everything in the game
I think you are the only person I've ever heard that praises the grid system of Persona 1. As someone who played P1, Innocent Sin and is currently playing Eternal Punsihment in 2024 (all 3 of them), the grid system is the absolute worst mechanic from Persona 1. It was ass.
Idk I just really enjoyed it. Made an otherwise simple gameplay loop feel like something different. Worst mechanic easily is negotiating though cause that's the worst in every game (to me) and it was at its worst in Persona 1
While the combat was pretty easy (minus a few fights where I did no fusions and the default personas were getting power crept), I preferred it to P1 in that I could just set auto and press emulation fast-forward to get on with the story. P1’s gameplay felt more annoying to me (looking at you Thanatos tower…) Also I’m trying to do no fusions again in EP and holy crap, it is way harder. Practically unplayable without the defend exploit.
If you like persona series and then yes if you only like some persona like persona 5 or persona 3 then no because it will make you just complain for like persona series my best persona is 4 which is atlus make the game perfect the cast feels like you know them, the story is engaging, if you are true persona fan just try p2 who knows maybe you like it.
Innocent Sin? yeah. Eternal Punishment? not so much. That game is a downgrade in most ways including MC. Maya is side pie- i mean side character material, not main.

If you like persona series and then yes if you only like some persona like persona 5 or persona 3 then no because it will make you just complain for like persona series my best persona is 4 which is atlus make the game perfect the cast feels like you know them, the story is engaging, if you are true persona fan just try p2 who knows maybe you like it.
