  • Replacing a leaky water pump in a 2005 Dakota with a 3.7 V6. If you want me to make a video on how to fix a specific part just let me know. I also have an 05 V8 4x4 that I work on.

I made myself a little wrench similar to a grinder nut wrench to fit in the holes on the water pump pulley.
    Works excellent!

Why did you make that wrench?

@@sleepylogic1647 to avoid the hammer blows that could miss and break something.
It's just a piece of flat bar with two holes in it, it holds the pulley while the clutch is loosened.

    Mine is a 2005 Ram 1500 3.7 v6.
    Water pump just went out.
I noticed you didn't have to remove a shroud or did you remove it before filming started...
Also didn't see the overfill or washer fluid plastic containers...
While you had everything broke down did you replace the thermostat or just reuse the old one?
I do not look forward to doing this job at all on my truck. ... Everytime I start a simple project something always goes sideways....wish me luck 😂.

I don't have a fan shroud on this truck. The washer fluid and coolant tanks are there, with your truck not being a Dakota the tanks are in a different place. I didn't change the thermostat, it doesn't need remove to change the water pump. Don't be worried about changing it, it's pretty simple and anyone with a little common sense should be able to do it in less than an hour.

@@sleepylogic1647 While I have everything broke down I'm going to do what maintenance I can .....I replaced the idler pulley a few years ago and the serpentine belt.
Not going to start this job till after New Year .....
And would you believe no parts stores around here have a clutch fan tool.... either to sell or loan.
Hopefully in a few days after Christmas things will be better.
Isn't it shocking the price of auto parts .... Would buy the pump From Rock Auto but decided to buy local in case of a screw up 😆.

@@jimmyliveshere I just use an adjustable wrench and rubber mallet to take my fan off. Yeah prices are crazy but I work at a garage so I get a little discount on parts.
