Just drove from san diego to los angeles on fsd 12.3.4 with no intervention. That was my first time ever driveing a tesla. Incredible. This needs to be a strongly encouraged safety option on all vehicles.

Larry is spot on, he sees that full self driving is just the beginning. Every Appliance and every Bot will be intelligent. Intelligent Bots will be necessary for constructing human habitats in the vacuum of space. The idea of humans doing construction while wearing space suits is beyond absurd. I am very happy that Tesla is building out its compute, this is one of the major necessities for ai till now. Maybe in the future ai will be less compute hungry but up until now it is the only way.
There’s a trade off with more inference reducing load of massive training computer. But next generation chips (Blackwell etc) improve by orders of magnitude in compute, in efficiency, same cost. Building AGI will take ~$10 billion pA for many years, every company. It’s only for the brave.
The need for more compute is for optimus. As I've said before, IMO the most overlooked value for optimus will be as a healthcare provider. Imagine one doctor with the skill and knowledge of the best (best outcomes) 10k MDs in the world. Now add the knowledge and care of the best 10k nurses, PAs, nurse practitioners, etc. Every optimus MD will have the collective medical knowledge that leads to the best outcomes. And every new piece of knowledge (human or AI) will be instantly accessible to every optimus MD in every corner of the globe and on the moon and on mars and on every starship in route to mars and beyond. Healthcare will be one of, if not the most important contribution of AI and optimus.
I really like this perspective, taking the same concept of a learning fleet application of FSD on wheels where the car gets better with the more cars on the road, but in this instance a collective fleet of Tesla Optimus MDs covering every healthcare facility in the world reducing the need for the years it takes for training to be a doctor, nurse etc. This brings me back to late 2010's when Elon kept emphasizing that Tesla FSD will be the foundation to all other Autonomous applications, and it will serve as the foundational platform. This is just the beginning.

The reason for the discussion about FSD is that it means earnings, which means stock price increase. Not every Tesla investor is down in the weeds, studying about AGI and inference compute. Some just want to make money.

Inference compute is thrown around but few really understand how uses rules and cycles through decisions. The training produces rules like If / then conditions. The inference compute uses these to make decisions. There could be a lot more discussion on this topic.
19:30 Visicalc is what really put Apple II (or was it the IIe) on the map. I remember it being Touche Ross, and/or maybe other big accounting firms who bought a slew of apples to get visicalc on a bunch of desks. I remember that one of the engineers we worked with did a bunch of work with visicalc. Sadly, its floating point was software based (that silly little eight bit processor didn't having any hardware floating point) and it had some precision bugs if I remember correctly.... Fortunately the accountants would have mostly required just the integer and fixed decimal math.
I've been watching a lot of your videos, i am not a Tesla fan boy, but Elon is doing great work. I did buy a little stock in TSLA based off how great FSD has become and bots. However, last night i sat in the back seat of a model y, and it was the most bumpy, noisy ride of my life. I could not tolerate buying a car that rides that poorly despite how beautiful the car looks
Don't despair, ev's tend to have a more bumpy ride due to efforts to increase range. Also the model Y you were in may have had performance wheels which give a more bumpy ride. I have ridden in the back of a Y and the ride was acceptable. 👍
Andreas Kretz has done a review a few months ago of new model 3. People are saying it has a better ride and is quieter inside. I think the model Y refresh (Juniper) will have similar improvements.👍
Chris Vanderstock has done a great review of the new model 3. It is in the top Ten for quietness. The 2022 model Y came last. 😮 Reducing tire pressure can give a less bumpy ride at the expense of some range.
Having dealt with video the jumps in response will be small. That said I agree it is necessary to complete the processing loop to reach the goal of Fsd. Ditto on the unlimited applications. Meanwhile I don’t infer I know who Elon really is. I will continue to invest and hope.
What Optimus needs is some on-board training ability so that it can learn on the job without a round trip to the training centre and refresh of its model. A bit like the human mind can learn during the day and then,overnight, reorganise itself to take much better advantage of what it learnt during the day, some of that reorganisation spilling over into the conscious as meaningful dreams or eureka moments… - I wonder if AI5 is far enough along to provide something like this ? money was the root of failure for intel. The graphics companies were selling transistors at a tenth the cost of what Intel could. By the time they got their act together the nvidia/tsmc combination was just better at scale than what intel could do. Playing catchup is hard, but once you loose the magic monopoly you've got to work really hard to stay in the game.

They changed the trajectory of my 48 year career in the tech industry and catapulted us forward at the time. I have the same feeling now that there is another step change at our feet, but this time it will be an unimaginable leap forward. Hmm exactly what “loop” is he talking about? The inference computer is a consumer of the models created by the training servers. There is no “loop” whereby the extra inference power speeds up the training cycle. More inference power simply means that the models that are delivered to the inference computer can be larger and more complex. It is only more power on the servers that speeds the training cycle. The only purpose of increasing power on the inference computer is to allow more capable models to be created and used. Of course any excess power can be used to support a distributed inference capability but this has zero to do with FSD. Possibly of use to X
I think Tesla will have done a deal with the state of Texas: State supplies the necessary power for the data centre, and Tesla will provide emergency backup power (via Megapack), for the state. Texas kisses goodbye to power outages.

The physics don't work out well. You'd be taking moderate temp water (perhaps 150F max) to a die casting machine that needs molten aluminum over 1300F. It's like saying "I'm going to use my warm hands to help the oven cook my pizza."
In the beginning (now) FSD will have to navigate around human drivers. In the end all cars will communicate. Journeys, even in heavy traffic, will be much quicker. FSD will need to be continually adjusting.
so fsd is 8channels in and 2 channels out. and will be reduced to much simpeler setup. optimus is x1000 in cams,sensors and gyros and x1000 in the total human expression. x 8bilion super Iq. Elon is building the brain and coinsiousness of AGI in optimus
These machines seem to need lots of electrical energy and produce heat in prodigious amounts. Maybe they should put these machines in cold countries and divert the heat to people’s homes.

Why have HW5 if FSD is solved was a much more intelligent question than you gave it credit for Larry. In fact, your answer wasn't coherently as intelligent as the question.

I am really disappointed what Boeing is doing and has done. Forget Boeing! I only fly Airbus.

Hmm exactly what “loop” is he talking about? The inference computer is a consumer of the models created by the training servers. There is no “loop” whereby the extra inference power speeds up the training cycle. More inference power simply means that the models that are delivered to the inference computer can be larger and more complex. It is only more power on the servers that speeds the training cycle. The only purpose of increasing power on the inference computer is to allow more capable models to be created and used. Of course any excess power can be used to support a distributed inference capability but this has zero to do with FSD. Possibly of use to X

The physics don't work out well. You'd be taking moderate temp water (perhaps 150F max) to a die casting machine that needs molten aluminum over 1300F. It's like saying "I'm going to use my warm hands to help the oven cook my pizza."
In the beginning (now) FSD will have to navigate around human drivers. In the end all cars will communicate. Journeys, even in heavy traffic, will be much quicker. FSD will need to be continually adjusting.
Not true. FSD is based on vision. It doesn’t care if a human is driving the cars in it’s immediate vicinity or if its also being operated by FSD.
Compute power is nothing if it isn’t monetize. As of now, there are no revenues from Robotaxi 😅

These machines seem to need lots of electrical energy and produce heat in prodigious amounts. Maybe they should put these machines in cold countries and divert the heat to people’s homes.
