3:42 that hill in the dark and heavy snow had to be something to get down

I only live a few miles from there and it’s amazing you made it to the bottom of the hill to camp without sliding down. The cave used to be tall enough to take your horse in and Silas Doty was said to have hid horses there that he stole. … Great video and what gear did you have that you didn’t freeze🥶?

Thanks for watching! And you're right! It was amazing that I didn't fall on my head coming down that hill! lol! But it is a pretty cool place with neat history as you indicated. So, I used a 0°F sleeping bag with a sleeping pad that has an R-value of around 5 (slightly less actually). I was warm and toasty and honestly, I didn't want to get up and face the winter! Thanks again for watching!

I found your channel because Sam bananas shouted you out in the video so cheers to him you’re right in my neck of the woods and I’ve been down there before so much fun. I prefer to go in better weather though it’s kind of dangerous that hill is something else going down very steep. I have a hard time going down it during the spring time little alone in the winter although you can go another direction but you got a bunch of obstacles with down trees and that’s probably how you’re gonna hike out.

Thanks for watching!! And indeed, Cheers to Sam Bananas! I was shocked when I saw that in his video! lol! I agree going down that hill is treacherous! Any time of year! Fortunate I didn't get hurt! And I actually hiked back up that big hill to get out since I didn't realize there was the option you mentioned! Next time! lol!

I've always wanted to try winter backpacking. Too cold! 🥶 you make it look very enjoyable! I'll have to give it a shot sometime. Just need to get some warmer gear first. Thanks for another great video Mark!

Thanks for watching!! Definitely give it a go sometime... It's a very different experience and can be very rewarding. No bugs, fewer (if any) people, and less foliage so views are much different than in the spring or summer. Thanks again!

@@tridudyonthetrail honestly, I always felt colder when I lived in Ohio due to the damp air. The temps get lower, but it’s dry so it’s much more bearable. Stay warm!
