Trade went down and as a Rangers fan, I understood what both teams were thinking and believe it was Win/Win. Rantanen is a sure fire star and the key elite player the Canes have been missing. They still need a better, more reliable goaltender if possible. I think the Avs were stuck being unable to pay Mikko but also realizing their team was so top heavy. Necas is a hell of player with great speed. And Jack Drury is a pain in the butt! Smart, hardworking, all over the ice, and exactly where he needs to be when a game changing moment occurs. I think Canes fans would agree with me on these assessments of their two former guys.
Spot on. I think it's a win/win too. Necas is an incredible player (first jersey I ever bought), but watching Canes games, you could see there were times where it was obvious Necas was playing against the system rather than inside of it. I think his elite speed is going to fit in with Colorado much better than it ever did with Carolina, and Drury is an excellent bottom 6 forward who is still young and has both pedigree and potential.

people are gonna cope but necas looks better than rantanen ever did. mikko is an elite finisher but the rest of his game is severely lacking. i think anyone that gives him 14m is gonna regret it.
I know most Avs fans won’t admit this but I agree with you. Everyone who said rants was underrated and a top 10 player in the leaugue I thought the opposite. He’s an elite point producer but the rest of his game is below NHL average. His turnovers lack of physicality and lackadaisical play and old kind of drive me crazy. What also made me laugh was every time the other team pulled the goalie Mikko suddenly starts getting in passing lanes and working his bag off to get the puck back. Necas is a play driver. I don’t even care if he gives you 100 pts his speed makes everyone else around him better and is something the Avs really covet more than any team.
I don't see him getting 14 now ..... We will see but I have been watching his Carolina games and he just doesn't seem to fit. He has been trying his fancy shots and may succeed there but he probably isn't on pace anymore for going crazy and it will give teams hesitation. Marty is for sure 100 pt player on this team. Makes me wonder how many mikko could get if he wasnt coasting all the time. Yes, mikko has higher end talent but he doesnt work hard. Im happy to have Necas and its kinda cool to see us win a faceoff when we need it(drury).
Hated seeing Mikko go but have loved watching Necas and Drury since they have come to the Av's. Necas plays really well on the 1st line and has the speed to keep up with Mackinnon and so far Necas has got the crossbars and post a llot the past 2 game's. Imagine if even half of those would have went in. I hope the Av's can make another good big trade before the deadline! The best part of this deal with is that Necas has helped the Av's actually have a successful power play now. The Av's powerplay was not good at all.
Really good content man. I really like that you acknowledge your possible missteps (re Necas' defensive ability). Builds a lot of credibility fast, and pretty rare these days. Cheers.
Thank you for that. Natural human instinct is to get defensive when someone criticizes you, your take, or whatever it may be. But if you look past that, take a step back, comments that arent always 100% 'positive' or agreeing with you can help more than hurt. Luckily for me, I had multiple people question my comments, all of them civil as well. So its my job to not get butt hurt, listen to the people, pay attention, and it'll make my analysis better in the future.
Amazing break down thanks man! The zone entry ability has been seriously impressive. Mackinnon is the guy that the avs rely on to enter the zone on PP and Marty now gives some really cool slingshots and tempo changes that I think will catch the defense flat footed. If Marty had Mikko's finishing ability he'd have 6 goals in these first 4 games. The high danger scoring chances have been insane with the top line. I think Marty will get over 100 points next year and being realistic, I would guess 40s for goals but if he can find another level to his scoring touch, my god. His vision on playmaking and passes has been noticeable as well. Constantly cross ice passing or doing no look drop passes. I really like his creativity and vision so far. He seems easy to be on the ice for his size and have seen some things online about him diving. Any comments or videos of that by the chat? He draws a crapload of penalties with that size but hoping that's not from consistently selling like I've had a little bit of seeing so far. Our powerplay has changed dramatically with the departure of the left hand howitzer and another righty to match mack. We have our forwards cycling behind and in front of the net through areas where you would leave mikko to be able to clap a bomb at any time. On the Blues, Mack drew 2 guys out of position by simply gliding through the crease and Drouin just had to put it on net. I'm very excited about Marty. Only 126 players have scored 100 points in the show. Marty was just under pace with no good Elite playmakers on the Canes. Add Mack and Makar feeding this man pucks and I think we're looking at a younger/faster/cheaper 100 point scorer than Moose. Love Moose and wish him all the best and hope he makes as much money as his heart wishes. The cap flexibility to make moves won't be apparent till about this time next year but we're looking good.
i think 50 is probably the absolute max for necas. if they work to set him up as hard as they did for mikko he could maybe do it. I think they would be much better off having him and nate pass to each other. they would get more goals in total that way even though each individually it would be less. im really hoping they use mack as the trigger man more now that miko is gone.
He's totally 100+ points per season talent, easily. He was on pace for that with Canes at the start of this season already, with Avs I believe he will definitely do that.
Long time Avalanche fan from Denver. I'm ok with the trade the only issue I see with Necas is that he and MacKinnon both like that off wing one timer on the PP, so will be interesting to see how they adjust. The really overlooked piece of that trade was securing Drury. The Av's now have 4 solid lines (With Nuke returning after the 4 Nations) giving that top heavy line more time to rest. Just like the Moose Necas was not brought in to play defense so not concerned with his D abilities or lack of(Most of his potential line mates are solid 2 way players Nuke, Lekhy, Drouin, etc..). These guys have been covering for Rantanen for years. Cheers and thanks for the break down,
100% I wanted to talk more about Drury and how he's making a big impact. The mack/necas thing was a concern of mine as weĺl, and big Val coming back will change that...but man im not going to lie, Necas being basically just as dynamic as Mackinnon has potential too. I know they got shutout because Demko goalied them, but watching them against VAN control the zone was something else. Avs vs Canucks roughly around 10 mins left in the second go check it out if you havent. It is a weird paradox right now also, where they look SO good but the conversions just arent happening as much as it seems like they should be.
I think something that gets skipped over a lot specifically with the Avs is how players benefit from practicing with Mackinnon and Makar. LOC is a great example for anyone who has watched the Avs over the years. You can see how much he has grown and how much his game has become a version of Mackinnon's. No doubt he has picked up skills, tricks, and training techniques and utilized them. I think Necas, who is starting at a much higher level than LOC is going to have a sharp increase over the next year.
Necas' big issue in Carolina was that he was really streaky, he started the year very hot and then cooled prior to the trade. He's looked good so far but it's all about if he can maintain it. A general observation as well is that he's tended to hold the puck too long alot. On the Canes he would try to dance through the whole defense and end up losing the puck and often create a rush the other way. If he does more of what he did on his first Avs goal-skate to the middle and shoot or pass before the defense can stop him-he'll be a world beater.
I think having mackinnon on his line will help him maintain consistency and have Someone just as skilled and fast to play off of so he doesn’t feel the need to do to much, and the avs are sutch a fast team it will make up for some of his mistakes. I’m sure he will learn a lot from mackinnon and level up his game
they also didn't have the threat of leaving guys like MacKinnon and Makar on the Necas line in Carolina. He's a great passer and he's been getting all these points, by finding these guys when they suck in on him. It leaves them open and that makes colorado much more dangerous. Carolina just didn't have that danger for defenders to worry about.
As a Canes fan, both teams got better. Mikko is a perfect fit for the Carolina system, and Martin is what that Colorado top line had been lacking. Been watching the Avs when I can, and that top line is electric. The Canes were using Necas for zone entry only on the powerplay. The team just doesn't carry the puck into the zone. That's a part of why he's pegged as a turnover machine. I've seen it so many times: Canes dump in, KK retrieves, sends it around boards to Necas, jumps past him, goes to Orlov or someone at the point, it goes back behind the net again, Necas fails to get it off opponents as first man in, puck is in our zone. Mikko isn't going to have that problem. That slower play is exactly what Carolina needs in their game-breaker.
Was great to warch through if you could deep dive on specific players like lekkonin, Colton and towes some of the second line work the avs have going would ne interesting to look at whats behind that dominant top line of guys
Right now it seems like an ok trade for both teams. A couple things that we won't know until way later: 1. Will Necas be as consistent as Rantanen? I feel that's highly unlikely based on the last three years. Only a few other players in the league are and they get paid more than twice as much. 2. Will Necas be useful in playoffs? Rantanen gets better toward playoffs, so comparing them in season games isn't telling the whole story.
It's crazy how black and white people's opinions are on this trade. It's like people don't understand that multiple things can be true simultaneously. Yes it's true that you're never really going to "win" a trade like this when you are trading away someone of Mikko's caliber, and certainly not when he means as much as he did to this organization. At least certainly not in the short term. But it's also true that they are not done yet. I guarantee you they are going to bring in some more depth pieces particularly on the blue line before the trade deadline. The whole reason for not signing him was to bring in depth and have a more well-rounded team. Furthermore, so far I think Necas has looked excellent. Do I think that he is a one-for-one replacement for Miko? No. Obviously not. But so far based off of what small sample size we have, he definitely looks like he fits the avalanche system and the fact that he's playing next to such high in talent has clearly elevated his game. It remains to be seen if we will see that consistently or not, but I'm definitely excited, for the moment.
After watching Mikko for 10 years, the Avs will really miss his finishing ability, and the way in which he can create offense out of nothing. However, with Necas the Avs top line has been dominant so far. The only thing holding them back is a 5% on-ice shooting %. Hoping this continues and the trade doesnt end up as one-sided as it feels.
Please watch highlights of last hockey world championship where in game against Sweden he carried whole team. In Carolina last year he played 3rd line so there was not much for him to do for his team.
The avs had 100% pp through the first 5 games. IDK how it fell off a cliff the way it did in december but they're power play has a much higher ceiling then the floor they're currently at
Does the NHL now copyright all footages and demonetize NHL related channels on youtube? I used to make a lot of NHL videos that did quite well in the past but stopped after they kept blocking my videos due to copyright and didn't want to waste my time making a video only to have it blocked.
You will 100% see some Rangers content at some point. My grandpas and cousins team, canucks are hard for me because of how late their games are...BUT they are on my list of teams to watch more often when they head east or get 8pm/9pm est starts against say oilers, flames, jets.
Cant wait to see how his finishing develops on the Avs. Literally of he was finishing even half of the high danger chances hes had I could see him netting 50. Im glad he's shooting a lot either way because Mack doesnt shoot as often as he should or can imo. 100% willing to admit this take could look dumb, but I feel like he could easily have a goal per game as of right now with the admittedly small sample size on the Avs.
honestly his work ethic and creativity are better than mikko's and thats what the top 6 needed. like sorry yeah mikko scores more goals but the cost is he got predictable.
Necas is no Rantanen, especially defensively. Your logic: skating fast = cups? Lets ask McOverrated how that worked out as he put up 0 points in 4 of 7 finals games and got carried by his 3rd line (who are slow as fu@
granted his defensive game is very lackluster but i think it will get better with age. you'd like it to be better by now, but his offensive upside is crazy
Here is a hot take for you. Next year, Necas will outscore rantanen wherever rantanen signs. He WAS the best player in the nhl for the first month of the year and then the canes had the brilliant idea of playing him with Jesperi offence destroyer kotkaniemi and also eric who the hell is this guy robinson. I mean.. if he was on the first line with aho no way this trade is even possible.
@@GhostlordGames LOL that is hardly a hot take. But you will see, I have necas in my fantasy team and I am tied for first place in my league and this is my first year playing fantasy hockey. Btw for the rest of this year it's unlikely rantanen will dramatically outscore Necas. That used to be my hot take, unfortunately it's not so outrageous anymore.
You sound like a Canes fan whos seen your fair share of Necas? Correct me if im wrong. But yeah, I watch basically every team (some more than others) and I can't believe how much Necas went under my own radar. As mentioned in the video, its wild to me hes a 6.5m guy too, but him and his agent are smart. They knew how good he is, just wasnt getting the opportunity, so they bridged it. Guys going to pop off on the Avs and get a big deal would be my early prediction. I think he'll appreciate what he has here in Colorado, and go with a team friendly deal long term, or another bridge because of cap increase.
@@PuckLuckUA-cam I am not, I am actually a canucks fan but I play fantasy sports and I have necas on my team. I originally drafted him because I loved his zone entries on the PP. And then he had an insane october which made me really happy. But then dropped off. I figured out why, I mean who in the world can score with kotkaniemi and robinson? But even with this drop off he was still doing well. The canes refused to put him with aho and svechnikov because they wanted to balance out their lines. Now he is released from purgatory and gets placed with mckinnon so the world will see his real talents. This guy is an elite player.
Time stamp this... Necas is a perimeter player. You traded a top 10 scorer in the league, who was a power forward, for a inferior scorer who is perimeter... as if Middlestadt wasn't perimeter enough, you went out & got another one LMAO! No more cups for you
And for what reason. If Mikko would have need say $12,5 million and Necas will demand 11 after next year is it really a worth to save that. Maybe it is. But my opinion is that is isnt the worth it to save that money.
@@oggamer735 Exactly, people didn’t understand (until now, when it’s official), that the salary cap will go up considerably over the next few years. Well, it’s their loss. I like the Avs, but I love the Canes. ✌️

Been watching him in Carolina for a few years. I absolutely think he could be a 40/60 guy next year.
i think 50 is probably the absolute max for necas. if they work to set him up as hard as they did for mikko he could maybe do it.
Video was great, but I subbed for the nostalgic NSC for montage music
just keep doing what you are doing - doesn't have to be avs. solid solid vid
Ill most certainly keep that in mind!!
Right now it seems like an ok trade for both teams. A couple things that we won't know until way later:
I'm still so sad Necas is off the Canes. I have three jerseys with his name on it. But I guess I've gotten a second favorite team now.
anyone who didnt know about how elite necas is probably just watches their own team. i was so hopeful the ducks would get him last offseason
Naughty by Necas.
I made the cut 😆!!!
If you broaden your scope and talk about other teams I’ll change notifications to all 😏
The best players are often the best skaters.
Wait until the playoffs. That is where you will see the true Necas. You have a very small sample size of him.
Please watch highlights of last hockey world championship where in game against Sweden he carried whole team. In Carolina last year he played 3rd line so there was not much for him to do for his team.
could you try doing some sens content. Would love to see that.
He always has the puck
The avs had 100% pp through the first 5 games. IDK how it fell off a cliff the way it did in december but they're power play has a much higher ceiling then the floor they're currently at
Big Val's injury
Does the NHL now copyright all footages and demonetize NHL related channels on youtube? I used to make a lot of NHL videos that did quite well in the past but stopped after they kept blocking my videos due to copyright and didn't want to waste my time making a video only to have it blocked.
Can you talk about Filip Chytil and JT Miller after the trades
You will 100% see some Rangers content at some point. My grandpas and cousins team, canucks are hard for me because of how late their games are...BUT they are on my list of teams to watch more often when they head east or get 8pm/9pm est starts against say oilers, flames, jets.
If Necas is on a hot steak he is great, its just that he seems to be a on/off guy
Early returns say 40G+ and 90-100pts is definitely within reach.
I'd like to know how fast Ehlers is.
He will be over 40 next year for sure
Bros a soccer fan commenting on a hockey video
I tweeted this to the announcement, but Canes traded Neccas while he’s in super saiyan 2 gohan mode
Right after Cell stomps on Android 16's head? Huge dbz guy tbh lol
Not having a strong net presence has killed the PP if Val can stay healthy once he gets back, the PP should get back on track.
PowerPlay is missing Nuke setting the screen in the middle...
Came to the comments to say this. Powerplay and offense in general fell off a cliff when Nuke got injured.
Necas at 100 points next year not a hot take but a more realistic number would be 85-90.
Cant wait to see how his finishing develops on the Avs. Literally of he was finishing even half of the high danger chances hes had I could see him netting 50. Im glad he's shooting a lot either way because Mack doesnt shoot as often as he should or can imo. 100% willing to admit this take could look dumb, but I feel like he could easily have a goal per game as of right now with the admittedly small sample size on the Avs.
honestly his work ethic and creativity are better than mikko's and thats what the top 6 needed. like sorry yeah mikko scores more goals but the cost is he got predictable.
more avs the better 🤷♀
Necas is no Rantanen, especially defensively.
Your logic: skating fast = cups? Lets ask McOverrated how that worked out as he put up 0 points in 4 of 7 finals games and got carried by his 3rd line (who are slow as fu@
I wanted chytil to stay on the rangers they lack a czech player
he's a mini mcdavid getting paid only 6.5
granted his defensive game is very lackluster but i think it will get better with age. you'd like it to be better by now, but his offensive upside is crazy
You are too stupid to insult.
Here is a hot take for you. You literally know nothing about hockey. Like 100%, after that comment there is no redemption.
I didn’t realize mittlestadt was on the top line at wing
What a terrible take lol

Exactly, people didn’t understand (until now, when it’s official), that the salary cap will go up considerably over the next few years. Well, it’s their loss. I like the Avs, but I love the Canes. ✌️
So far, seems like he takes it to the middle more than Mackinnon.
