so, I want to know something, in every homebrew you made it says I have to ask to use it, so, if I want to make a campaign and want to use your homebrew things, can I use it? I will post the characters drawings somewhere so it won't be a total isolated thing, so I'm asking be sure
You should do monks, their problem is basically the same as Rangers. Except instead of Aragorn it's a half forgotten character named Remo Williams from "The Destroyer" book series. You'll hear that Monk was based on other things but if you read the books or watch the movie its clear like 85% of the monk is lifted directly from Remo. The origin for the entire character class was because one of the original devs was a HUGE FANBOY of Remo and they did it just for them.
My friend once played a dragonborn that was the product of a human bard and a dragon in a comedy oneshot. Another friend played an old man who was a bard who once seduced a dragon. They came up with these concepts independently. Shout out to Luke the DM for tying their backstories together. A happy little family.
You should probably add a note about the Dragonborn reprints in Fizbans. Each type; Metallic, chromatic and gem got a subrace that gives them unique abilities, and their breath weapon was buffed to be able to be used multiple times a day.
@@krispykiwi7286 To each their own, but between the choice for the shitty phb version and the actually decent race offered in Fizbans, I know which one I'm choosing
@@baku2575 my big issue with the Wildmount ones is that they drop the damage resistance for the features, which can end up being even less relavant than the damage type, with ravenite having a once-per-short reaction attack and Draconblood a once-per-short persuasion or intimidation advantage. in like 90% of cases, the damage resist is preferable
I like this idea of the third time the dragons tried to create *interns* they made kobolds based on the smaller humanoid races they turned into dragontouched and finally got loyal *interns*
Most races' visual design is just 'differently shaped/coloured human'. Dragonborn are so amazing because they're NOT human-esque - as cool as the idea is, I think it honestly waters their visual design down to put so many human elements back into them.
My campaign has a heraldry-type connection between dragonborn, kobolds, and humanoid sorcerors. Basically, a dragonborn is the first generation offspring from a relationship between dragon and humanoid race. The farther they get from that heritage the more they look like either kobolds or humans (depending on whom they pair with). But the lore for my world is pretty wild so it probably wouldn't work in other campaigns.
Your videos have such a wonderful mix of creativity and genuinely funny jokes. It's like this channel was made in a lab for me. Congrats on your growth!
My older daughter showed me your videos, and I instantly loved them! We started to play D&D recently with my family, and this video gave me many ideas to develop with my little daughter's dragonborn character, in the campaign we're playing. Thank you and keep up your excellent work!
This is actually really similar to my most recent dnd character turned into campaign villain! I made a Dragonborn named Miso who's whole schtick is that they hate gods and dragons for having been made into 'Unpaid Interns' and now seek to destroy the influences of gods and dragons upon the people so that they may create a world that is truly free. I ended up loving the concept so much I just keep them more as an npc rather than a player character
Ironically, playing a meiji-period Japan inspired dragonborn character, I did almost the opposite. The lore for that character was that their original clan's leader was a dragon who sought to uplift their 'unpaid interns', foretold the spellplague and evacuated a huge amount of dragonborn to Kozakura, on Toril (fantasy japan). While the clan's leaders are now just parts of the mythology of the land, their benevolent spirit lives on in the form of the kami. My character was a paladin, with a modified oath centered around protecting one's kin, protecting family and cultural values, and ensuring Draconic superiority. He was raised to seek the unification of dragons and their original god, Azgorath (renamed Chromatus, along with some substantial rewriting of the base Forgotten Realms lore around them) in order to repel an invasion by fantasy China (Kara-tur), who had used magical items to enslave some of the original dragons that sought to protect their lesser dragonkin (kobolds, dragonborn) and now sought to destroy my character's culture and traditions by occupying Kozakura with indoctrinated dragonborn samurai, who still secretly support many of their original beliefs.
The Dragonborn make me think that they evolved from kobolds. Kobolds were born from dragonblood and served dragons from the start and continue to do so to this day. I can easily see a dragon deciding to experiment on the kobolds and breed a better kobold and end up creating Dragonborn.
@dandereninja4750 wouldnt that mean they would be better than kobolds in every way? Then shouldnt the dragonborn be mechanically and lore wise better than koblds in every single way possible? how would even work? and why would someone play kobolds after this change?
If you have ye old Draconomicon or Fizbans guide, you can do this! Their is, in the section on Draconic Gifts, a Gift of Draconic Rebirth. So a dragon can give this gift to a favored kobold servant, for example, and turn them into a dragonborn. they also got some rules for variations on how half dragons can be created. Some pretty cool stuff. A deep dragon in my campaign (an older classic one from older editions/campaigns not the new Mushroom Mutant) has over the years slowly turned more and more of his shorter lived servants into dragonborn or half dragons infused with purple dragon colors and abilities. so when his kobold and human employees get old... he gives em a Gift and puts em back to work lol Kinda promotes them from office and warehouse clerks 😂 to mercs and treasure guards. 😊 Fizbans got a lot of fun stuff and good tables to roll on.
UA-cam has an aspect of luck to it, but it also rewards quality of work pretty well so I knew you would take off. From the thumbnails to video structure plus you end it with something tangible to use in our games? Legend. Also somehow every reference you make speaks to my soul in a deep level, never stop using Disgaea music lmao
I remember, it was fifth or sixth video that I decided to watch until the end, when I realised, what awaits viewers at the end of each and *EVERY* one of them! I was collecting my jaw from the floor for a good minute that time. 🤩 Absolutely legendary!
I think the funniest thing to me is how green dragonborns were literally completed invalidated by Yuan Ti Pureblood, even down to Yuan Ti speaking draconic AND abyssal
Y'know my idea was to pull from other mythologies related to dragons, I have a backlog character that's a gold dragonborn paladin (IT GETS MORE INTERESTING I PROMISE!) but instead of a standard dragon inspiration, his physicality is based more on East Asian dragon lore, his fire damage breath is a blast of boiling river water, his features are more slender and snakelike than bulky like the wyrms of European lore, he has a mustache like East Asian dragons and "hair" that's a wild matte of vibrant fire colored feathers extending in an approximation of a mullet over his back, and his personality is based on Dinidan the laughing knight of Arthur's round table because this oath of the ancients paladin is a wandering music junkie who spreads "the light" by lending aid to any travellers he comes across and aggressively sharing the good vibes of the world with everyone he meets.
I have been working on the idea of making it so that, in some of my dnd settings at least, either metallic dragons or the celestial equivalents to angels for Bahamut are eastern inspired: flying without wings, more associated with wing and water, having both scales and plumage, possesing great healing and magic, etc With Fizban I´ve been also considering the possibility of gem dragons being the ones that work like this, floating due to psionics instead of wings, with iridescent bodies, more mysterious or less known than their cousins and often associated to magical gemstones or pearls more than precious metals
@@georgeuferov1497 I must be the wrong flavour of Slav, because I haven't heard of those! That sounds like the perfect flavour for my next character, could you point me to some reading material, or give me the term to search up? Thanks in advance
Literally was talking about this in my dnd group for a character like this and see this, thanks pointy hat. This just saved me 40+ hours of trying to craft a subclass for them so thankyou again for the amazing story and subclass
I admire how you actively engage concepts that aren't specifically to your tastes and create something new from the aspects you enjoy. Also, as a liker of dragons myself, I appreciate your diplomacy! You're not putting things you're not keen on down, you're finding inspiration and that! Is beautiful. The way you create is uplifting.
Every time you say you are surprised at how fast your channel is growing, but honestly with the fucking high quality that your videos have, it is not at all surprising to me, seldom do you see such a small channel with such high effort high-quality videos.
Ooooh yeah, i love my Gobbo boyos. When properly used beyond just generic mooks, goblinoids can be really cool, and that´s part of why I love settings such as Eberron
I am in awe of your artwork. Your art style is beautiful and dynamic. Your early drafts have so much character to them cos your shadows and shading is so good and your finished pieces at the end are always next level. your colour choices, the blending, the shading, the line work, all of it is just so beautiful and inspiring and I love it. Keep up the amazing work cos they compliment the ideas of the videos beautifully.
I'm so glad I found your channel. Unironically love the creativity and kindness of sharing your custom homebrew additions. Also really like the fact that I'm actually learning some dnd lore in the most enjoyable way possible
My favorite Dragonborn I've played is a Blue Dragonborn that's a Bronze Dargon Sorcerer he was seen as special by this tribe due to being Cromadtic and Metalic
@Viewer I definitely want to do Tiefling dragon sorcerer (ONCE THEY GET BUFFED WIZARDS!!! You have the spells RIGHT THERE and the templates of two different class subclasses to work with! One general draconic/adjacent spell and one based on color each spell level up to 5th then replaceable by evocation and transmutation! Then at higher spell levels throw in individual super good dragon spells like summon dragon spirit and illusory dragon like how genie locks get wish at 9th! GOD!) but by going chromatic coloring I can lean into the lore of Tiamat residing in the hells! I can even throw in a fiend pact warlock multiclassing! (I’ve been doing a LOT of those lately but they’re just so varied and fun I can’t help it lol) But yeah, Tiefling with any chromatic ancestry (red, black, and blue? Or green? Work best for a literal color pallet the best with typical Tiefling colors) so you get a Tiefling with lots of extra scales on their skin and especially around their horns and tails! Plus the extra spells are a blessing! (lol, ironic)
Your channel is growing because there are lots if youtubers that talk about dnd stuff, but as far as I know only you actually give us awesome free content ( I love most of the stuff but I particularly love the idea around psionic abilities, there are not enough things and abilities that can be gotten without using up feats or character levels.
Im developing a similar setting! Id hate to scrap the dragon born but having this as an optional or alternate version is fun to me. Not sure how you're doing your dragonborn but if you're still using thag familial or clan structure you could make the dragontouched have to do something or somehow prove thag they are loyal to/be allow into the clan and apart of the family. Bam! In-built hooks.
@@itzplant3196 I am doing a setting where everything is set in a fantasy metropolis where all cultures come together. Basicly fantasy new york. Old values are still there, but watered down to fit a modern life. Dragonborn are family first, and family isn't necisarily by blood. Also, the clan mentality makes for a pretty good basis for a Dragonborn Mafia.
I am so so so glad I found this channel, I had struggles trying to figure out a backstory for a home brew race based off of Mass Effect, and you have more than helped me out make it feel more original and personal
The creativity and thoughtfulness you put into ready-to-use and actionable free content is top notch. The effort and love you put into your work shows through! Keep it up!
To be honest, removing their visual uniqueness as lizard people to make them more like every other DND race (variation on human) is a very poor take in my opinion.
12:45 And so the great dragons decided that trying to make races serve them against their will was honestly really stupid and way too annoying and just went back to using Kobolds
I had an idea of an aasimar that instead of having angel wings and visions, they were more dragon -like, growing scales in their transformation and everything
As a DM, I like to think some dragons still know how to turn humanoids into more dragonborn with alchemy and rituals that most other beings can't channel and direct enough raw elemental energy to perform.
my first character was a dragonborn wizard, so he was this really tough looking, 2,20 mtrs dude who could literally die from a punch at lvl 5. he also grew up in a hippie dragonborn religious clan
hello sir, and yes, it surprised me to see how much of a new channel you were lol also wow this is the first time I've been so early to see no views lol edit: wow another dragon age fan, yeah in DAO the qunari were the most interesting to me, the only reason I even PLAYED DA2 (besides tapestry) is because I wanted to learn more about the qun and the qunari lol
Been binge watching your entire catalog soon, and every video, even those with a topic I don’t naturally gravitate towards have been Stellar. Artwork is Amazing, the fresh thinking is super cool and you’re just generally entertaining to listen to/watch. Keep up the great work! Gonna go paste this on the rest of your videos to feed the algorithm gods
You are one of my inspirations! For my D&D campaign I made a "Twist" with the Harpies (I love the idea of people with wings and I think the monster is very underused considering that they speak common and have potential), based in your content I created a society and culture. Your channel is a huge inspiration to many other DMs and we love your content S2
My dragon has a breath weapon that sprays out a perfume. Its breath is effectively a charm person spell. Save or fallow the dragon. It would likely be a good dragon just to be a contrarian.
I have been watching your stuff for a whole but I did just subscribe recently. I love the little character you made (pointy hat) - it has such personality. It's the perfect VTuber character! The way you explain, dissect and reinvent things from DnD is bound to bring in all the DnD fans on UA-cam. The humour is great, you come across as naturally funny. Great job mate, keep doing what you're doing, you're doing great!
Love love love this twist on Dragonborn, especially for the design potential! The art and concept look fantastic as always - discovered you earlier this week and I binged everything! Kudos on the growth and look forward to what you put out next!
This happens EVERY time.. I go into it not being crazy about the idea (In this case, humanoid dragonborn) but by the end you've absolutely sold me on everything and I want to play it now lmao.
Awesome videos man. I love the twists you make on things. I'm in a ToD campaign and I've got 4 total characters lined up, one of each of the subraces for the dragontouched. Plus, my DM loves it so much that he's built them into the campaign too!
I had the same issue with the vanilla lore of Dragonborn, but I have an obsession with making my character's story match the world they live in, so I very much took bits and pieces from the forgotten realms lore and exaggerated different elements to create a different flavor of dragon born heritage. In the heavily modified version of Tomb of Annihilation that my group plays in, I created a ton of unique lore for my Eastern-dragon themed Dragonborn Paladin character and for my friend's Dragonborn Wizard character. I basically re-wrote huge portions of the Forgotten Realms lore regarding the creation of the dragons. Here's the jist of it. Chromatus (generally a facelift of IO/Azgorath; A dragon god with 15 heads; One for each 'color' and 'type' of dragons, all the gem dragons, all the metallic dragons, and all the chromatic dragons.) assisted in the creation of Abeir-Toril, siding with the primordials. He seeded the world with the Reptilian races (Lizardfolk, Snakefolk, etc), but was sealed away by the intervening gods for this. Some time later, an empire of Reptilians freed Chromatus, who then created the first dragon flights, waging war on the giants and the gods. This war drags on for far too long, and Chromatus regrets putting his kin through so much suffering. He empowers fifteen of his Draconic generals into enlightened Guardians of Dragonkind. Each is blessed with a sliver of Chromatus's power, becoming true-born metallic, chromatic and gem dragons. These empowered dragons are tasked with assisting Chromatus in his new goal; Split the world into two! One world for the kin of the elementals and the dragons, and the other for the gods. During the ritual, something goes awry. It's implied to be ancient lore, and many dragons and dragonkin have varying takes on what happened. Some say it was a betrayal from a group of Guardian dragons, others say it was an attack from the Primordials intended to disrupt the ritual, others still say it was all a part of the plan of Chromatus, while those who worship the later dragon gods claim that Chromatus went mad. Either way, Chromatus's goal of splitting the world was successful, but at a grave cost. The god of Dragons was shattered into three, Bahamut; The god of Metallics, Tiamat, the goddess of Chromatics, and Sardior; The god of Gem dragons. Due to the new personalities and war-like mentality of the descendants of Chromatus as well as potential resentment over splitting them from what was rightfully theirs (Toril), the Primordials relationship with the majority of Dragon-kind worsens greatly. Initially referred to as the Triumvirate, Bahamut, Tiamat and Sardior begin to infighting. Guardian dragons and other powerful ancient dragons from the wars on Abeir-Toril fret over which of the three dragon gods to worship. Others still pledge allegiance to the Primordials, who they believe are the true creators of Abeir and Toril. A schism forms when the followers of Tiamat begin to wage war against the elemental titans dwelling on Abeir, against the counsel of Bahamut, Sardior and the majority of the Guardian dragons. The power Tiamat's dragonkin received for devouring the elemental titans made them a considerable threat to the rest of Dragonkind, kicking off the first Dragon war on Abeir. The war is long and bloody, fueled by dragons devouring elemental titans for their powers. At the height of the war, the dragon-god Sardior is slain, while Tiamat mysteriously goes missing (thought to have been summoned to Toril). In the wake of the war's abrupt and bloody end, Bahamut and the remaining Guardian dragons outlaw dragon-god worship on Abeir. The unfair over prosecution of Tiamat worshipers led to another split, with the majority of dragons formerly loyal to Bahamut becoming disenfranchised with his cruelty to their kin. Around this time, independent dragons begin to form petty kingdoms on Abeir, using a blood ritual to create lesser dragonkin; like kobolds and dragonborn. Most dragonlords treat their newborn kin as slaves from birth, expected to carry out the less-pleasant but necessary tasks of forming an army to protect their hoards and sacred places. The few Guardian dragons that remain are mostly sympathetic to their lesser dragonkin; while they are never treated as equals, they are given the opportunity to be bestowed with great power in reward for their service. Additionally, the Guardian dragons have an upperhand over the rest of the dragons on Abeir; They can use the power they received from Chromatus to divine the future of dragon kind. Most of these visions predict a second dragon war, but gradually, more visions predict portals opening up across the realm in the wake of the Spellplague. Those that have these visions report hearing voices beckoning them through to the other side. Eventually, these portals open up. 9 Guardian dragons decide to lead their clans through the portals, while the remaining six decide to remain on Abeir, using magic secretly stolen from the gods long ago to enact a form of connection through the portals allowing them to spy on the other dragon clans on Abeir, while the rest seek new lives on Toril. This magic also allows them to spiritually connect to their kin, acting as advisors and leaders to those who reach out to them. This meditative practice is called Jundo. Many of the Guardians defect from the original plan. A group of them abandon their clans and side with enthralling factions on Toril, such as the Shou, or the dragon cults of Tiamat. The confused and abandoned lesser dragonkin form their own clans and go their separate ways, while others elect to remain with their draconic overlords. Eastern-style Dragonborn are called Celestial Dragonborn, and are direct descendants of a Guardian dragon that chose to protect their lesser dragonkin, steering them away from the Shou and Kara-tur, and leading them to the islands of Kozakura. They worship Chromatus and practice Jundo as a way to connect with their once-unified ancestry. Over time, this faith gradually fell away as Dragonborn culture became more prominent in the area, overtaking the rule of dragons after the Guardian dragons that brought them to Kozakura faded away into mythology. Very recently, due to Shou occupation of Kozakura, a group calling themselves the Redoran have reingited worship of Chromatus in secrecy, as part of a movement intended to unify the celestial dragonborn against the Shou invaders, who seek to erase worship of Chromatus and replace it with practice of the 'Path of Enlightenment', a form of worship of the Celestial Bureaucracy. It's implied that each of the dragonborn clans have very different appearances, based generally on the Guardian they were born of. Some have tails or wings, some don't, some have breath weapons, some don't, some have distinctive features never seen on dragons native to Toril, due to their connection with the Guardians.
I love these guys! I was a bit concerned at the start that these would be replacements for dragonborn, but having them both in cannon is very cool! I also love how varied they are, I imagine that will work very nicely in making some pretty interesting designs. As for dragonborn themselves, I've always liked them due to how unique their designs are. They (canonically at least) don't look like furriers, having more of a somewhat stout dwarph-like look with weird scale covered tendril dreadlocks (the females even no longer have tits!).
Okay, two things. 1. Dragonborn are just extra large kobolds who are too proud to admit it. 2. Your characterization of the Dragon-touched brings joy to my cold, withered libertarian heart.
Just randomly came across your videos due to the whims of the algorithm. I have to say I can easily see why your channel has gotten so popular so fast. Your videos are well made, funny and genuinely insightful. I have actually made changes and had new ideas for my own campaign after watching your videos. Exceptional work!
~Oh~ With a light coat of paint you can easily make the Dragontouched into the Au Ra. I could see certain members of my gaming group who have expressed a pronounced apathy towards the Dragonborn being potentially interested in something that resonates with their FFXIV interests.
congratulations on the growth, i haven't been here long, but i'm looking forward to more videos, your ideas feel like very unique takes on things, i really enjoyed the celestial video
Awesome video! I wanted to make Dragonborn in my setting actually be different races that were turned into the Dragonborn, So now I will use these!!! keep up the amazing work, and I cant wait to see what you do next!!!
As Dragonborn, I would look with some weird admiration to Dragontouched and their freedom talking, as I would gladly help them to free their heads from their abominal shoulders
Yeah, I noticed that Dragontouched are basically libertarians and those that don't mix well with communists. Dragonborn would call libertarian inequality as "internship with extra steps" and dragontouched would call serving the collective "internship with extra steps". Bot as anti-internship but they have different interpretations of what counts as internship.
My favorite animal is octopus. Cephalopods in general are super super fascinating to me. I have found some homebrew stuff but none of it really satisfied me and I wondered what your take might be for something cephalopodic and possessing tentacles, camo, or other stuff. I've tried to homebrew a race myself but my immense passion for how awesome and broken cephalopods are always gets in the way of balance.
Take a human, give it a swim speed and the ability to breathe water. An octopus race would have 8 arms but only some of them should be usable so give them the thri-kreens secondary arm feature. Also to be accurate to the boneless anatomy of the octopus give it the plasmoids amorphous body feature. Boom, done
I love this concept! I am currently playing an Aasimar of Bahamut who is a lawful good cleric of life and a character that I worked with my DM to help design. They are the nicest person you will ever know and are also absolutely frightening when defending you from evil. I flavored him in such a way that he has white shimmering angelic wings, symmetrical small horns, iridescent silvery scale patches on his pale skin, sharper nails, pointed ears, and a silver dragon tail with aspects of feathery light golden fur and feathers. The rest of them is what you would expect from an aasimar: beautiful androgynous human body with no signs of any blemish, long lustrous (blonde) hair, and perching (sky blue) eyes. Kind of my take on what if angels of Bahamut existed that were not full dragons. And I wanted to highlight the life aspect of Bahamut’s domain using the protector Aasimar sub-race as well to emphasize how much the character values life (and love). They have the same stats as a protector aasimar and the dragon flare is mostly for looks/you know who his god is when you see him kind of deal and you should be either very afraid or very relieved. Also yea he is a good boy and will help you with anything and bake you sweets!
I really like this, since my favorite player races and classes are usually the plane touched one's. So a dragon touched race is extremely cool and I genuinely love the variations as it feels like a Tiefling in a way, having their blood manifest in different ways allowing for unique abilities with each one
So glad that somebody else finds Dragons and the Draconic races a little much. I definitely plan on using these and several other homebrews you've made when I run my own campaign. Thank you for putting all this time and effort in!
I think you’ve done a good job with the subrace for the Dragonborn! I’m still new to 5e lore so I didn’t know dragons had “unpaid interns” in the canon until now. Glad the algorithm directed me here a little while ago; I think I’ve already watched all your videos up to this one and I enjoyed your spins on classic monsters/classes/etc
I love extremes. So the reasons to play Dragonborn: 1. Start 6 ft tall. Become Fighter Runic Knight. At 10 lvl become even taller. 2. Play Sorcerer Draconic Bloodline. 3. Play Monk Way of The Ascendant Dragon. 4. Play Ranger Drakewarden. (5) Be all of them. Fighter 11/Sorc 3/Monk 3/Ranger 3. Be more draconic than dragons.
I'm playing a dragonborn at the moment but because I am playing a crystal dragonborn from Fizbans (A different origin stil!) I avoided the dragonborn backstory by having his egg stolen and sold off. I love your stream lined dragonborn origin story, It gives a much bigger better sense of identify for them as a race, and I feel like it adds a lot to their different motives and ideologies. I do enjoy the concept of the dragon touched but I feel that it is a bit too similar to the different tiefling subspecies and a weird middle step between using dragonborns as "interns" and later Kobolds
I love dragonborn and they were always perfectly fine to me, but this twist is incredibly interesting, especially for worldbuilding. As always, great video, I loved every single one of them. Keep up the good work!
Hey! Just letting you know that you deserve every last subscriber, your videos are such an amazing resource and really helps the creative juices flow. Great work!
THANK YOU for making this video and THANK YOU for saying you have always thought Dragonborn were "boring" (I always felt like I was the only one), and finally THANK YOU for making this cool new race and offering it to us for free! (P.S.: Thank you for your content, your channel, and for being YOU! You're awesome! Keep it up!)
I came across your channel recently and i must say, i'm really enjoying the content! it's nice to see different spins and perspectives of all the different classes/races/mechanics of D&D and i will be going through your entire playlist and watching them all! keep up the great work and i wish you the best!! Thank you!
Going into this I was a bit worried that you'd be making the dragonborn look like Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, but you really hit this out of the park! I love this video
Keep it up Pointy Hat! Everyone in all the DnD groups I know have adopted your concepts for Teiflings with a twist, and I hear everyone going into detail on the shape of their horns and have excellent artwork done for them. Your videos are inspiring a lot of people to be more creative with their character creation.
this is pretty much cannon in forgotten realms, the creating draconic mutated humanoids that is. all chromatic half dragons come from it and many subraces with draconic influence are because of it, black dragon lizardfolk and frost giants drinking white dragon blood being two i remember from aj pickets video.
I love your channel so much I told my DM about it. Really hoping we end up using your stuff if we ever go back to 5e. I have so many cool ideas for characters and campaigns, and they just keep coming! 😵💫
I'd really love to see a video about gnomes and/or halflings, I struggle to figure out a way to differentiate them in my own setting so I'd love to see your twist on it.
Also I just love your videos. The artwork, the creativity, the editing. All of it is A+ and I laugh at a lot of the references to other media in each video. As scary as it is to have so many people viewing your work, you DO deserve all the attention! Thank you for sharing these videos with us. And thank you Bia for the amazing editing! You also deserve all the attention!
I would love to see your take on the Kobolds! Maybe a mouse-like kobold as seen in Warcraft, a human-like kobold as seen in the Witcher, or maybe even a cobalt-like, rock kobold seen in German mythology. Either way, I cannot wait to see what you post next.
I often play Dragonborn, it's one of my favorite races as I like playing Martial classes and I like Charisma classes. And I like dragons 😅. My breath weapon is usually Posion or Cold because I think those resistances are very useful. The Dragon-Touched seem really really cool and interesting, but it seems less of a spin on Dragonborn and more of a spin of adding (pardon the pun) draconic touches to other races. It seems less Dragonborn with a twist and more other races with a twist that happens to be draconic. I was hoping for a twist like, Sea or nature Dragonborns making them similar to Argonians in Elder Scrolls, or making Dragonborn subraces that would add to Dragonborns like the Courtly or Aetherial Elves. Like Dragonborns that despise their Dragonic heritage because they were... "interns" ... and try to look less draconic, which over the years changed them, or Dragonborns that lean into that Draconic Heritage and Weird Religion thing and worship their former masters as Gods becoming more bestial and dragon-like with Tails and stuff due to their desire to emulate their Gods. The Dragon-Touched feel more like a new race rather than a twist on an old one. I still like them, it just didn't seem right for the Dragonborn. Can you cover Warforged next?
In my campagin, there is no dragonborn "race". Dragonborns are actual (chromatic) dragons that, once felled, received a bless/curse from Bahamut: they should reincarnate and survive as a "lesser" mortal form and prove themselves humble, caring and selfless through this existence. If they do, they can reborn again as a full dragon, a metallic one this time - that is why most Dragonborn thrive to be lawful good, but they also struggle with the pain of being lessened by this bless/curse. They are very rare, and by not being common knowledge, some ppl fear them, have prejudice against them (being chromatic spawns), while others may admire and even worship them as a divine-touched being
Same here ! I cannot overstate my love for dragons. Currently conjuring up dragon-centric setting. There are 12 dragon gods, which would also be the 12 dragon and dragonborn types. The 12 Eldwyrms (dragon gods) are divided into 3 spheres: Cosmic wyrms (order&time, chaos, void, star), Soul wyrms (darkness, light, life, death) and elemental wyrms (fire, water, earth, air) Dragons are descendants of the Eldwyrms and the dragonborn were created by the Eldwyrms. Currently looking at a way to make them more interesting to play and adapt their ancestry's too.
WOW thishelps me A LOT. i am a new DM and i was looking for a good history for my players and while hearing the twist i had an idea why dont use dragon touch as its the ealy days of them existing and making my party having them as constant enemies to havo to save them from the clawns of a dragon as the BBEG (he is prob gonna become a dracolich too)
I absolutely LOVE your channel. A breath of fresh air. You are original, funny and provide fantastically fun twists for DnD. As a DM myself I love it when my players use new ideas like these. (And I myself, will be using some of you previous videos for some of my campaigns as well, like hags). Above all I enjoy that you give your content out for free to all DnD fans. You are an inspiration (DnD joke) to all of us. Keep it up!
As of Fizbans, the Dragonborn can use their breath weapon more than 1/short rest there. There's also the variants from Wildmount. The first Dragonborn have little to do with the rest of them in games...in 3.5 they were one of the few LA+0 template "races" that were pretty interesting, they had been all highly religious as Bahamut's counter for the various Spawn of Tiamat that were coming into play at the time. Anyone following Bahamut (and sometimes some of other good dragon dieties). Some of them used to develop wings and other things there (And were theorized to have been based on the Dragon Kith) Then 4e tossed that and just made them another race. Also, the dragontouched you have could work better as just working from the various "Dragonblooded" races that also showed up in 3.5 (That are all various versions of races infused with dragonblood into them)
Honestly man, or hat, you really keep hitting the nail on the head with these videos. I announced a "dragon-touched" NPC in my campaign two weeks ago, and wanted to expand on his lore, and you just pulled it out. Also you made hags just after I wrote a nice BBEG for a campaign as well. And you improved both rangers and elves in a way that I have been searching for, but couldn't find until you, brilliant hat, brought them to me. Thank you so much, on my and my players behalf. Keep on doing your thing
I was actually planning on having a nation in my homebrew world based around draconic races. I was going to try to implement half dragons along with dragonborn but your idea could also be a nice extra touch to add. I envisioned the nation as pretty closed and a little racist, so with actual dragons as their rulers it wouldn't be out of the question for citizens to become dragon touched if they want.
As a person who absolutely loves dragons but Drago, borns not so much, the twist you gave Dragonborns is just perfect, I'm absolutely going to incorpore dragon touched folks into my next campaign. Thank you so much for these videos and the content you share. You're awesome
Its a cool idea, but I'm not a fan of the enforced asymmetry. Asymmetry is cool and should by all means be the more common form. But Having two horns with Draconic Visage or two dragon arms with Draconic Arm should be an default option IMO. Of course with homebrew its up to the player and DM anyway.
@@insanehiker5587 lol that sounds REALLY sketchy without context. When I first read it I thought “what is this racist shit?” Then I realised what the vid was and it made sense XD
I think it would be cool if you covered goliaths. It's one of my favorite races but in my opinion (along with many others) it is kind of bland in some ways. I think whatever take you could have would be pretty nice to see.
*My pride and my soul, my Blue-Eyes White Dragonborn!* 🧿👄🧿
Weebs this one is for you 😌
You forgot about the gem dragons, and the purple, pink and yellow dragons, but that's okay cus they are all low key. What you did was amazing.
personally I would have a breath weapon that was a mix of radiant/fire or radiant/force, to be like Godzilla
so, I want to know something, in every homebrew you made it says I have to ask to use it, so, if I want to make a campaign and want to use your homebrew things, can I use it? I will post the characters drawings somewhere so it won't be a total isolated thing, so I'm asking be sure
You should do monks, their problem is basically the same as Rangers. Except instead of Aragorn it's a half forgotten character named Remo Williams from "The Destroyer" book series. You'll hear that Monk was based on other things but if you read the books or watch the movie its clear like 85% of the monk is lifted directly from Remo.
The origin for the entire character class was because one of the original devs was a HUGE FANBOY of Remo and they did it just for them.
Us weebs get two videos dedicated to us? Sweet!

My first thought : kobolds
Same.

Kobolds would be too willing. It’s not fun if they are interns willingly

I know! But I tend to shy away from newer books that change stuff, specially when it comes to SRD races. See the note on the twist for more!
Those "reprints" just represent dragonborn that are closer to those dragons, not a complete reboot of them
@@krispykiwi7286 To each their own, but between the choice for the shitty phb version and the actually decent race offered in Fizbans, I know which one I'm choosing
And there are pretty interesting sub races in the explorers guide to wildmount which people almost never talk about.

I do not prefer humans with dragon parts, either they arr fully human or humanoid dragons.
That’s fair, personally I kinda like the human with added dragon parts, but that’s just me.
Well you still can play the normal dragonborn

Your videos have such a wonderful mix of creativity and genuinely funny jokes. It's like this channel was made in a lab for me. Congrats on your growth!
Thank you Carlos!!! I respect your content so much, it means a lot you like mine :)
You both love the Oprah jokes.
Omg the crossover I never knew I needed! Love both these creators.
My older daughter showed me your videos, and I instantly loved them! We started to play D&D recently with my family, and this video gave me many ideas to develop with my little daughter's dragonborn character, in the campaign we're playing. Thank you and keep up your excellent work!
Beautiful. 🥹
He sounds more like a "Hero". Maybe and anti-hero if you ham it up.
@@RedSunUnderParadise anti villain potentially.
The Dragonborn make me think that they evolved from kobolds. Kobolds were born from dragonblood and served dragons from the start and continue to do so to this day. I can easily see a dragon deciding to experiment on the kobolds and breed a better kobold and end up creating Dragonborn.
@dandereninja4750
wouldnt that mean they would be better than kobolds in every way?
Then shouldnt the dragonborn be mechanically and lore wise better than koblds in every single way possible? how would even work? and why would someone play kobolds after this change?
They would be called Dragonblood
Fizbans got a lot of fun stuff and good tables to roll on.
I have been working on the idea of making it so that, in some of my dnd settings at least, either metallic dragons or the celestial equivalents to angels for Bahamut are eastern inspired: flying without wings, more associated with wing and water, having both scales and plumage, possesing great healing and magic, etc
With Fizban I´ve been also considering the possibility of gem dragons being the ones that work like this, floating due to psionics instead of wings, with iridescent bodies, more mysterious or less known than their cousins and often associated to magical gemstones or pearls more than precious metals
I can't belive I've never thought about a more Eastern dragon look for dragonborn. That's absolutely genius!
Slavic and Hawaiian mythologies have literal dragonborn.
@@georgeuferov1497 I must be the wrong flavour of Slav, because I haven't heard of those! That sounds like the perfect flavour for my next character, could you point me to some reading material, or give me the term to search up? Thanks in advance

Every time you say you are surprised at how fast your channel is growing, but honestly with the fucking high quality that your videos have, it is not at all surprising to me, seldom do you see such a small channel with such high effort high-quality videos.
By any chance, can you cover Goblins?? Goblins are super cool with a ton of ability to be cool npcs, monsters or even player races :D
Agreed, itd be cool to play into the massive amount of variety that goblins have cause dnd just doesn't lol

Agreed, I love goblins. I always put more of them in my campaign than the story calls for just because I like roleplaying the little rascals.
Ooooh yeah, i love my Gobbo boyos. When properly used beyond just generic mooks, goblinoids can be really cool, and that´s part of why I love settings such as Eberron
The entire goblin family of races is just great. Hobgoblins are cool, bugbears are big sneaky bastards, and goblins are wacky children that I love

My favorite Dragonborn I've played is a Blue Dragonborn that's a Bronze Dargon Sorcerer he was seen as special by this tribe due to being Cromadtic and Metalic
This is a fantasic idea. I may end up doing something similar (but with a different combination) myself
(I’ve been doing a LOT of those lately but they’re just so varied and fun I can’t help it lol)
But yeah, Tiefling with any chromatic ancestry (red, black, and blue?
I am currently developing a modern setting for DnD, and these Dragontouched could also fit in great as some "failed" super soldier experiments.

Matt Colville actually has Dragonborn as supersoldiers left over from an earlier, better age as a thing in his world.
The only thing cooler than a superhuman is a bunch of failed artificial superhumans.
Billy? Where did the Dragon touch you?

Boom, done
Really happy to see your channel's growth over the last few months! You make great content from a unique perspective!
Of course you'd turn the dragon born into an aesthetically pleasing treat for the eyes. You are a jewel.
I love extremes. So the reasons to play Dragonborn:
Absolutely love the way you format videos and how nice you are. Thank you for the great videos
13:49 Dracs increase standard movement speed by 25% when put in sports mode, but reduce CHA by 50% at all times when worn
CHA penalty can be ignored when interacting with other Dracs wearers.
I think you mean increase by 50% right?
I'd really love to see a video about gnomes and/or halflings, I struggle to figure out a way to differentiate them in my own setting so I'd love to see your twist on it.
i'm having a normal day and furiously blinking and gulping while listening to Hat explain how the Dragontouched defend the rights of others.
finally, a dragonborn variant that i can actually draw...
Dragonborn are geared towards Paladin, but could easily be Sorcerers. The Dragon Touched have pretty much unlimited class choices, though. Well done!
I love your stuff, Pointy Hat! Also, I could listen to you talk all day. LOL Thanks for continuing to share and come up with cool ideas!!
I love that you talked about Dragon Age. I love it so much. Also, this is very interesting, I think i might add them as npcs to my campaing
Hell yeah man, keep it up! Absolutely love the historically drawn what ifs the dragonborn & dragon touched touch on. Great concept!
Just found this channel today and been sharing it with everyone. What you do is so unique it's no wonder your channel is blowing up!
They are very rare, and by not being common knowledge, some ppl fear them, have prejudice against them (being chromatic spawns), while others may admire and even worship them as a divine-touched being
@@Itomon oh this is a super fun interpretation of them!
That last bit... sounds interesting. Dragonborn Beast Barbarian?
Same here ! I cannot overstate my love for dragons. Currently conjuring up dragon-centric setting. There are 12 dragon gods, which would also be the 12 dragon and dragonborn types. The 12 Eldwyrms (dragon gods) are divided into 3 spheres:
Cosmic wyrms (order&time, chaos, void, star), Soul wyrms (darkness, light, life, death) and elemental wyrms (fire, water, earth, air)
Dragons are descendants of the Eldwyrms and the dragonborn were created by the Eldwyrms. Currently looking at a way to make them more interesting to play and adapt their ancestry's too.
WOW thishelps me A LOT.
i am a new DM and i was looking for a good history for my players and while hearing the twist i had an idea
why dont use dragon touch as its the ealy days of them existing and making my party having them as constant enemies to havo to save them from the clawns of a dragon as the BBEG (he is prob gonna become a dracolich too)
This guy is so damn creative and smart. I love this channel
Another great video. Love your artwork mate.
hear me out... Dragon Touched Cowboy
Some of them used to develop wings and other things there (And were theorized to have been based on the Dragon Kith)
Then 4e tossed that and just made them another race.
Also, the dragontouched you have could work better as just working from the various "Dragonblooded" races that also showed up in 3.5 (That are all various versions of races infused with dragonblood into them)
You and Dungeon Dudes addressed the EXACT things I'd been wanting to do for characters this week, thank you ^^
Honestly man, or hat, you really keep hitting the nail on the head with these videos.
Ngl. I’m actually disappointed that Dragonborns aren’t the case of some warrior fighting a dragon and suddenly getting lost in each other’s eyes. 😂
That's half-dragons. Do people just forget that half-dragons exist and just assume that those are dragonborn?
As for the whole racial asymmetry not being a thing...what about the mongrelfolk?
@@insanehiker5587 lol that sounds REALLY sketchy without context. When I first read it I thought “what is this racist shit?”
Then I realised what the vid was and it made sense XD
Amazing videos, great art and inspiring content! You are very talented and deserve the following, just remember to take care of yourself too 😊
I think it would be cool if you covered goliaths. It's one of my favorite races but in my opinion (along with many others) it is kind of bland in some ways. I think whatever take you could have would be pretty nice to see.
literally my fave dnd youtuber THANK YOUUUU FOR YOUR SERVICE
