Hi Andrew. I did buy a VDJ78R because of your videos, and fitted it with BFGs too. In time, I'll be visiting Quickpitch for lots of extras also. You have inspired me to develop my film making skills as I adventure around Australia. Thank you.
The armrest is made for and sold at Alsonidy which is a well known camping and hunting retailer in Saudi Arabia. For those of you not living in the Gulf countries, apparently one of Ronny Dahl’s mates has secured the rights to sell the armrests in Australia. Great video Andrew, thank you.
Hay Andrew, i have not bought a troopy yet but this is my next goal. Buy it, modify it (if possibility to accommodate a family of 2 adults and 2 kids) and go exploring. I would never had that car on my top list if i did not watch your trips. I can feel how much you trust this vehicle and i trust your judgment.
I dont have a troopy but do have a 79 dual cab. In regards to the 6x6, you'd be mad not to go the Jmacx 6x6. its a better system with coils all round. The multi drive system is good, and great for loads, but thats about it and its very limited in its design and real Offroad ability. have you looked at the Jmacx system?
Hi Andrew, at the time, I couldn’t afford a Troopy, so I bought a new FJ Cruiser (so, it’s still a Toyota!!). I have since fitted it out with many of the products you mention. It’s now a kickass overlanding rig and I love it! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
Hi Andrew. I am sure if you had picked the engine revs up to 1500rpm the alternator would then have kicked in to it's maximum output whatever it is rated at, in your case, by the sound of it. 40amps. At idle without having first "excited" the alternator you were doing well to get the 20 amps. Hope this makes sense. Thanks for the great vids....
G’day Andrew, yes 100% bought the troopy because of your build, beginning of May this year I meet you in person at QuickPitch campers at Wangara, Jakkie gave you a call and you downed tools ( editing Simpson dessert trip ) to drive over to meet me, I told you then that I had a dual cab on order and cancelled it to build a troopy like yours, am over the moon with the build that PDP/QuickPitch put together for the cook and me, have a heap of photos of both vehicles park side by side and you sitting in mine, thanks again for your time that day mate ( well over an hour chatting 😬👍 ) Cheers Darryl

Hi Andrew, I’m a Troopy owner over the ditch in NZ and I bought a Troopy after your comparison video with the Defender 110. Unfortunately there isn’t the same market for aftermarket Troopy products here in NZ as Australia, but I’m slowly building my Troopy into an overland vehicle and have been using your videos as guidance. Hopefully in a few years I might have something similar to your beast! Keep up the great work and I look forward to watching a 6x6 build series soon! Cheers, Andy
Hi Andrew. I didn’t buy a troopy but I did buy an FJ cruiser after your review of it in SA. Great review, sold me and the Misses, and we have had it ever since. If I had the $ I would get a troopy and do a conversion very similar to you. Keep the great vids coming - watch the same day you post.
I just bought a 20 year old troopy and will convert it to something like yours. So yes,you gave inspiration and a lot of yousefull information i’m going to use on the project
We brought a 96 troop carrier after watching your videos, I come across you researching the canning stock route. we are doing the trip on dirt bikes in August 2020 our build has commenced and I have been watching your great videos every chance I get .
I had the plan to buy and build an HZJ 78 before I saw your videos, but now that I have seen your videos, I know what is possible and what I want on my truck! So you definitely were an inspiration for me and my plans for building my truck! Thank you for that.
Cant afford a Troopy, but I bought a 1998 Landcruiser here in Europe that in Australia is badged as a Prado because of your videos. Also got BFGoodrich tires, so that product placement worked a charm.
I owned a V8 Troopie before I found your channel. Still got it and still love doing mods on it. Awesome car that has NEVER left me stranded whether in the outback, beaches or high country. Your channel has given me lots of ideas and further confirmed that I have one of the best touring 4x4's around. Cheers and all the best on your next adventure in Africa.
Andrew, I just wanted to say I really appreciate your videos they are really the best overloading videos out there. there are some fun Australian productions but I just really like how real your presentation is, no bullshit, no embellishment, just what you see is what it is. great stuff.
I was excited when you bought a 79 dual cab, then intrigued when you swapped it for a troopy, and yes I will definitely consider a 6 wheeler after I follow your build. I have created detailed plans of a custom camper myself that I've been working on for years and payload has forever been the challenge. You may convince me that it's worth saving money for longer to do it all on 6 wheels instead of 4.
I was very critical of your video on the conclusion of your Aus East to West trip, but what a great comeback! Well done - I'm certainly considering a Troopy myself after watching this.
You might get some joy from talking to Iveco - the Daily has appeared in a lot of semi-amateur 4x4 shows. It's not 6 wheel drive but would easily accommodate your needs. Not to mention the seat is comfortable........and the track is the same front and rear :)
Hey Andrew! I live in the US, so no Troopy -- so inspired by your videos, I instead bought a 4Runner TRD OffRoad with KDSS. I'm using it for my photography expeditions across the Southwestern and Rocky Mountain regions, and over time I hope to modify mine as you have to support longer expeditions. Thank you for the inspiration!!
We have been watching for a while. My dad owned one of the first hard tops in Australia. Through watching the canning and build videos. We just ordered our first Troopy with great ideas to create our grand tourer. Very excited
the level of sophistication in that high-tech waterlevel meter is mindblowing. ^.^ also - I bought my troopy because of you! ex RFS '92 with only 66K on the clock ;)
My passion is with Land Rovers but your concise logical approach to actual practicality functionality and most importantly reliability and serviceability has swayed my decision to go Land Cruiser troopy/doublecab and if finance goes well 6x6 dream. Thank You for all the informative content excellent videography and clarity.
I have a defender 90 td5 and live in the UK. I’ve spent several years now wishing I could get a troopy here for a reasonable sum. I’m certain that if they were easier to come by here then I would have one and that’s purely down to your channel.
Andrew, I WOULD get a troopy in a heart beat but I can’t in the US. You opened my eyes to that amazing vehicle, those that modify them and I wish I could but the darn things aren’t available here.
hi Andrew, big fan of you and your amazing vids. just saw these right now. I can tell you that I have just bought a 4 wheel, 2 weeks ago because of your fantastic trips. keep going with your vids, great work.
In Seattle with a Jeep Rubicon 4 door. Hope you stop by here again. Many of your ideas translate to the build of other vehicles. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Andrew I finally ended up buying my first 4wd a 76 series as I needed the back seat for the kids, but so many of your ideas I'm putting into it were inspirations from your channel. Thanks for the great channel
Andrew I have been watching you for many years. The Troopie is not available in Canada, but I’m currently waiting on a 4Runner, because you inspired me to get out and see the world, in a vehicle. Hopeful that you would see some of Canada in my videos.
I am visualising wining one of these on the 16/04/2022, and it’s the 2021 GXL Troopy. From Car Hub Australia...I watch your awesome videos to imagine myself in it and upgrading it just like you have. ..I’ll let you know how I go🤠👍
Hello Andrew! Well, I am in the midst of transitioning into the 4WD market after being in the Four Door Saloon market for a long time. I’ve been debating which vehicle to get. After watching your videos about your troopy, and listening to the misgivings you have about electronic systems in 4WD vehicles, I am decided on my next purchase. It WILL BE A TROOPY.. That probably doesn’t help your numbers, but I wanted to let you know how inspiring your content has been to me. Thank you for what you do.
Yes, Andrew I'm going to buy one for my 52nd birthday in Nov-2018 & build it. But this will be based on your 1st impression (in Australia) and what is offered by my local dealer in Sri Lanka, a 4.2 litre in line 6 cylinder (HZJ79R) Thank you & Ronney for sorting me out with Jeep Wrangler, Defender & LC 79 finally!
Hey Andrew, I am in the process of finding/buying a troopy, I currently drive a 4.2 gu patrol I have tried touring in it but was to much hassle setting up! After watching your videos I have seen the ease of set up and pack of a troopy... this is the reason for going to the dark side Cheers. Brad
G'day Andrew. I have not purchased a troopy because of you (oh how I would dearly love the funds to do exactly that), however, I have purchased many other items because of your input on them. I use the BFG's as a prime example.
2005 Troopie HDJ Factory Turbo. I watched your videos. Punched a troopie. Did a build for my trip half way around Australia. Love the trusty troopie, plan to do more trips. Thanks for the inspiration 👍🏽
Can’t buy a troopy, but did remind me that I bought a Jeep Wrangler unlimited because of your comparison with a defender! Thank you for the years of great expeditions and experiences!
Hi Andrew I've just started to follow your channel about a month haven't got a troopy but very inspired to buy another Toyota land cruiser and convert it into a camper ☺👍
Hi Andrew, great video as usual. I already had bought my Troopy (second hand) before I discovered your channel, but you have inspired me in how I have built and subsequently used my troopy. You inspired me to get into Overlanding. If i were to buy new Landcruiser it would definitely be a Troopy and be converted similarly to yours.
I what to have on but couldn’t find a dealer in Germany. Not only because of you (have seen it in Dubai first time) but u made me love to have on and I hope u get your 6WD. :)
One thought about your charging system - your amperage may be outputting low from the engine on grounds of engine RPM. Bringing up your RPM will increase your charge rate significantly. Past that, you are showing sooo many ideas and toys that'd work very nicely with my Jeep. Also - what about a dedicated trailer for your current rig?
Hey Andrew Iv been looking to buy a troopy for over 2 years and came across your videos during the research and that confirmed it for me so as of 2 weeks ago I bought a great condition 1 owner troopy and I love it the build will begin soon enough.
Would be interesting to have some numbers on what your troopy - completely kitted out as you have - would cost a normal punter without any sponsorship. I'm guessing it must be north of AU$150K.
Would love to see your charging system. Dual battery setup, solar charging and what electrics you are using in the rig. Great stuff, thanks for sharing.
living on the remote tracks full time having done the Canning and Arnhem land in the past six months... you said it right; nothing is ever perfect. In relation to your on the road editing you just look for more heavier and expensive solutions. Best case we would all drive Unimogs with slide on campers but then you give up other things to have the ease to edit and live on the road.
Hi there! I have bought a 45-series Troopie that I am currently restoring and upgrading (e.g. 12HT+5-speed) - inspired by Andrews first Troopie actually. Cheers!
I haven’t purchased yet, but because of your videos I have ordered a new 2019 Troopy in Sandy Taupe and will start mods once delivered... keep the great content coming mate 👍🏻
You need to communicate with Toyota and indicate to them you would like to aquire a mine spec 70 series extra cab Landcruiser 6x6 with extended chassis. I'm a corrosion engineer currently employed in WA mining sectors and recently purchased my Landcruiser in this specification. When filling in my application to purchase, a comparison document explained all differences between civillian and mine spec Landcruisers. These differences are very extensive, from minor updates to major reengineering modifications, numbering 340 in total. On receiving the Cruiser, applying the extra necessary equipment and completing several expeditions, my only real compliant is it is not a carpark friendly vehicle due to the extended wheelbase and height. Hope this is of interest. Great series Andrew.👍👍
I just wanted to take this moment to thank you Andrew for your wonderful videos. I’ve been Follow you since you did the video with Ronny Dahl and your 79 Duelcab and then changed to the Troopy. I was interested in the 79s at the time and was going to purchase one. I put that on hold when you changed over. Now that I’ve seen what you have done with your Troopy and the reasons behind you change. I’m putting together my plans to purchase and build one myself in 2019. Regards Johnno
Im buying the 87 Montero / Pajero Wagon and doing this because of you ! No way could i afford near as much, but you inspire me to give my family amazing overland memories before dementia take over :) Add Montero to your list :)
HI Andrew, I am in EU, and I am currently buying a second hand HZJ78 because of you...and my choice of tires will also be inspired by your videos. Would have loved to buy a new troopy, but hey, Europe !
Oh and for the record, Didn't buy a troppy because of you, I have had a few featured in Magazines, but your video's and troopy mods are definately inspiring me to get back out there again.....I have had a couple of years off
Love the look of that wheel carrier. Wheel carriers have been one of our biggest headaches. Even had one that was so badly designed it used to open up and it eventually ripped off the bumper. It took quite a bit of welding to fix everything.
I don’t know if it helps, but I’m saving to do something very similar to yours but with some better interior living for colder weathers!! I let you know when I get it! But definitely it’s because of you! I just love it!!
I bought a troopie 2010 KEA because of your videos! AND, I would certainly be interested in purchasing a 6wheeler if it’s anything like your last two troopies. Your videos are fantastic and I hope you build the ultimate overlander!
Since I live in the US, a troopy is not an option for me. However... I can say that if they were available here, it would undoubtedly be my next vehicle purchase. I 100% attribute that to your channel for showing just how awesome those trucks can be suited for expedition travel.
I haven't brought a troopy yet, but changed my plans for an overland vehicle from a dual cab to a troopy because of this vehicle. I am also trying to arrange time with a friend for a trip with Safari Drive to Namibia solely as a result of your programs
I wanted a van to tour AU, but your videos swayed me towards the Troopy. I’ve been a proud 2013 gxl owner for two weeks now. :) I hope Toyota give you a 6 wheeler!!
That shower...US weeps for it. The MaxTraxx table for an 80 series...in the US. Oye. The ladder for an 80 series...right on. Bumper's nice as well. I watch faithfully for clues to your next visit to CO, US. Perhaps the show in AZ? The 6-wheeler...that will make you try to go places you wouldn't ordinarily go. And that's prob your point. Can't wait to see the footage. As always, a wealth of knowledge and the willingness to labor to share. God bless and safe travels Mr. White.
Hi Andrew, thanks for you videos, I would have bought a Toyota Troopy, if they were still available in Europe! Instead I went for a Land Rover Defender 110, but the actual build (Alucap pop up roof, awning, tires and internal layout) was heavily inspired by your videos. Thanks!
Channelling your inner python at the end. The fantastic invention for measuring water is worthy of a Patent. But as a fellow aviator if I said C152 you would get my sarcasm. I didn't buy a Troopy because you can't get them in the UK but I bought a 70 station wagon because of your influence.
I sold my 200 Series and bought a Troopy mostly because of your vids. It's a build in process. Troopy body on an 80 series chassis. Let me know if you want more info.
Harvey Smith The wheelbase is about 4 inches longer in the 75 than the 80. We're stretching the frame to match. The plus side of the swap: coil springs and factory 80 series e-lockers.
Thanks for the reply Tony. I have a 70 station wagon in the UK, it is a Japanese import with a 2.4 diesel. Yes a 2.4! I want to put a 4.2 six in it and a few other bits. Nice to know the 80 is so similar. The locking diffs sound great. The 70 Prado which is my model comes with coils all round which is lovely.
Hi, Andrew @ 4xoverland if you are really still thinking of doing a 6x6 79 look at the Jmacx 6x6 system. All coils either 70 series or 200 series Land Cruiser. They guys who created the Jamcx 6x6 system had used the Multidrive on along with being the top field brass Amy when the Amy where testing the G wagons. They took the best of the best and built their own system and it's also cheaper than the Multidrive and runs on all Coils no leaf springs! Furthermore, there are no modifications to the driveline such as drive shafts, transfer case etc all remains unmodified and OEM. If you are still got at want for a 6x6 give Jase from Jmacx a call and he will hook you up.
Don’t have a troop but I’ve got the 76 wagon just worked better with the kids but you helped me make up my mind on a landcruiser before is current one over three years ago so thanks andrew
As other people have mentioned - Patriot Campers and Jmacx have 6x6 vehicles. Your other Perth mate, Ronny Dahl did a video on the Patriot Campers 6x6 mega tourer. Could get some info from them perhaps.
A workmate of mine is getting the roof tent conversion done to his troopy later in the year as he watches far to many of your videos - yes topey Im talking about you!!!
Hi Andrew, love your videos and yes I have bought a Troopy. I am preparing the vehicle for future trips around Western Australia and beyond. Keep up the good work.
me and 2 other lads travelled all the way round oz for 4 months in 1990 with just a rucksack each and a big cardboard box for food and a bag of spanners in an old ford falcon no need to convert your truck into a heavy furniture van, only 1 puncture and a leaky rad we nursed with raw eggs, easy.
Hi Andrew, a bit delay on my response to your great video(s). I have to mention that I'm a Land Rover fanatic, or better, lover. Due to you're videos I've changed my view and opinion on the Toyota land cruiser. If it was available in the Netherlands (for a reasonable price) I would buy one. I did buy the following products due to you're videos. The Nitecore camping lamps and headlight. I did switch from General Grabber to the new BFG AT tires. Best regards Anton
Ever since I first discovered you, and your your wonderful films, through your review of the Land Cruiser vs the Defender, I have been lusting after getting my hands on a 1HZ Cruiser. Unfortunately, as you know, the Canadian government won’t allow the sale of 70 series trucks. I have been gradually researching the importation of an old one into Canada. You have definitely influenced my future purchase decisions even though I will be using my 70 series for work and as a daily driver.
I didn't buy a troopy, but was very close too. I instead brought a LC Double cab and had Paul Marsh from Capetown, modify it for camping. Thanks for your Videos
Andrew, I am not in a position now to buy an overland vehicle, but if I was and if I could get a troopy in the US I would because of what I have seen in your videos. As always, I love your videos.
I did 👍 absolutely loved it, sold it immediately, because there aren't many in my country (iceland) , made a solid profit and regret selling it, will need to get my self another one.
hi all. I have a 1995 HZJ75. before I watched your videos. they are great by the way. I too like others want to film my own. I have a 6yo son and he just loves to go camping. at the moment its in for some diff repairs. but I love the truck. will never sell it .i do all of my own work and its an absolute joy. you have given me many more ideas in areas I have been thinking about like showers. good luck and all the best. South Africa does look interesting too. cheers
Great great content; as always! I’m in Canada.. if they sold the troopy here I promise you I would buy one, and do what you have done with yours. With out a doubt, amazing truck!
Have you ever considered buying an OKA for the extra room? OKA parts Australia produces the "R" series which are fully rebuilt OKAs from the ground up with a 6BT Cummins, maybe worth considering, great video by the way!
I would love to buy a troopy and deck it out like you have, but the biggest question I have, is how many dollars would I need to have the same set up. Your Troopy looks bullet proof and any answers on dollar amount would be a great start. Looking forward to your next series.
I would love a troopy but they are not available here in the states so my best option is a Tacoma with a Habitat camper shell and modifications which is my goal. I will use many of your ideas as well as those of Expedition Overland. I really enjoy your videos both for the entertainment and ideas. Thanks
I am already in contact with the companies you visited to build mine, but it is going to be difficult to register over here in Europe due to emission norms... But we work on it!
I bought a 70 series because of GVM limitations of my Nissan Y61 ute, but I chose a Troopy because of the influence of ASPW. Andrew has demonstrated the Troopy's advantages of self containment and mobility that I cannot have with a ute and camper trailer as I had before. I have followed much of his advice to the extent that it suited my different needs. I am still wondering about a remap versus a Uni chip as I want it to be tuned to my particular engine and Torqit exhaust.
I didn't buy a Cruiser, But I did buy a Toyota, in part, because of your build. The lighter weight and narrower body of a Tacoma/Hilux is better suited for the mountain and forest roads in my area though, so I got a 1998 TRD. Plus no diesel option here, so every little bit of fuel economy is helpful.
If the troopy was available for purchase new in United States, I would have one right now because of you and your videos Andrew.

Me too.
I was ready to post the same comment.
Same here...
Same here, but in another country:

Andrew is the David Attenborough of 4wding 😎🍺
I was thinking the exact same thing a few days ago...
Furthermore, I normally say to my friends and family... David Attenborough's voice is probably the closest we can get to God's voice...

And yes I would agree with punkguy350

yep, same here. And the BFG AT K02's are pretty damn good tires!
I bought a set of 33” KO2’s because of you.
my next truck will be a troopy V8 D4D. my decision is based on your build.
love your work.

You opened my eyes to that amazing vehicle, those that modify them and I wish I could but the darn things aren’t available here.
hi Andrew,
big fan of you and your amazing vids.
just saw these right now.
Hello Andrew, I bought my Troopy because of you just last month in Switzerland. Thanks for your inspirational work.
Hey Andrew, I am in the process of finding/buying a troopy, I currently drive a 4.2 gu patrol I have tried touring in it but was to much hassle setting up! After watching your videos I have seen the ease of set up and pack of a troopy... this is the reason for going to the dark side
Cheers. Brad
G'day Andrew. I have not purchased a troopy because of you (oh how I would dearly love the funds to do exactly that), however, I have purchased many other items because of your input on them. I use the BFG's as a prime example.
Hello Andrew,
I got a troopy because of your videos. Thank you very much. It put a smile on my face every time I drove it.
If the troopy was sold in the USA I would have a new troopy in the driveway. This is because of you and your troopy!
Hey Andrew
Iv been looking to buy a troopy for over 2 years and came across your videos during the research and that confirmed it for me so as of 2 weeks ago I bought a great condition 1 owner troopy and I love it the build will begin soon enough.
Hi Andrew, I have just purchased a 78 troopie to Travel the world. Yes your videos were my inspiration to choose this vehicle Thank you
Would be interesting to have some numbers on what your troopy - completely kitted out as you have - would cost a normal punter without any sponsorship.
No way could i afford near as much, but you inspire me to give my family amazing overland memories before dementia take over :)
Add Montero to your list :)
White.
Hi Andrew,
thanks for you videos, I would have bought a Toyota Troopy, if they were still available in Europe!
I didn't buy a Troopy because you can't get them in the UK but I bought a 70 station wagon because of your influence.
yeah nice invention, all it needs is a snappy name, something like " calibrated measuring stick " , but for US " tactical measuring stick " .. haha
What about "The Stick"
yeah, far snappier... lol
I sold my 200 Series and bought a Troopy mostly because of your vids. It's a build in process. Troopy body on an 80 series chassis. Let me know if you want more info.
How similar are the 80 series chassis to the 70?
Harvey Smith The wheelbase is about 4 inches longer in the 75 than the 80. We're stretching the frame to match. The plus side of the swap: coil springs and factory 80 series e-lockers.
Thanks for the reply Tony.
I have a 70 station wagon in the UK, it is a Japanese import with a 2.4 diesel. Yes a 2.4!
I want to put a 4.2 six in it and a few other bits. Nice to know the 80 is so similar.
The locking diffs sound great. The 70 Prado which is my model comes with coils all round which is lovely.
I have heard of guys putting the 80 series suspension on the 70 series.
Ok Andrew. Understand that it is your influence is the sole reason that has led me to begin a Troopy build.
I really love that truck! It definitely earned it's title as"hero truck!" I wish we could get troopys in the states! I would love to own one!
South Africa does look interesting too. cheers
I do not have a Troopy. I have a Land Rover Defender 130. You inspire me to outfit and explore more!
If I could get a troopy in the USA, I would do this exact setup! My 100 is built up, but would do this troopy build in a heartbeat!
Great great content; as always!
I’m in Canada.. if they sold the troopy here I promise you I would buy one, and do what you have done with yours. With out a doubt, amazing truck!
Always wanted a troopy, but your videos gave me the push to buy one, 2003 Troopy 1HZ
I bought my BFG KO2's based on your videos, and I would seriously consider a troopy as an overland specific vehicle if I ever built one.
Wonderful video. Bought a 150 series Toyota Prado coz of your videos. Will soon get BFGs coz of you.
I didn't buy a Cruiser, But I did buy a Toyota, in part, because of your build. The lighter weight and narrower body of a Tacoma/Hilux is better suited for the mountain and forest roads in my area though, so I got a 1998 TRD. Plus no diesel option here, so every little bit of fuel economy is helpful.
ive only started watching again because of this troopy. it really is the ultimate overland vehicle
