    I find it helpful to turn on smoothing and to change it to 1/3 octave. Otherwise there is just too much detail with every chromatic frequency and all those transients. For reference, I have noticed when I run this on pro recorded music that the best sounding mixes have a pretty significant amount of space between the mid and side graphs. In other words the side bubble fits well within the mid bubble and the side bubble is only 60-80% the size of the mid bubble. It also means there won’t be extreme highs and lows in the side mix, which is typically good for a mix. Hope this is helpful to consider.

    I've been using SPAN for years now, and it's been on mid side stéréo. But you teach me how to make the mid appear without fill,"Filled Display" is off. brilliant. Much easier to read the info, easier on the eyes too. That setting is now, my default setting...))Nice video, clear and simple.

    Mate, thanks a lot for this video! I always used span during the mastering process, but never really for mixing. Could you perhaps make an additional video showing more examples like the leads? Super interesting to use visual clues as to how wel a single instruments is mixed (or what is lacks or can use more off)? Would be much appreciated!

    I find just changing the color of the side channel to red does the trick, no need to remove the filling

    hi, is there anyone who could tell me how to install that thing? I dropped these downloaded files into the right folder but that doesn't really work for me... what do i need to do ? Thanks in advance !

    Thanks a lot for the video, however, you talk about the full potential of the plugin, you don't make reference to the alert red information this plugin offers meaning, something is wrong in the mix, giving you the option to go and correct, which from the tracks are producing more side information to correct it, I think this is the most important feature of this plugin, thanks though for the video and greetings from Germany

    • @Tightwire

      you can use third party eq’s (or some stock eq’s depending on DAW) that have mid/side processing u can add per band, and just increase or decrease from those bands

  • @njcity
    @njcity 2 роки тому +6

    This is useful information/tips for any whom. were looking to investigate their mid/side imaging.
    However what a terrible title:
    "You are using SPAN wrong"
    How insulting! Your configuration is only valid for looking at mid/side, what if I only want to look at the overall energy? Your assertion would be that I'm using SPAN wrong, just because I'm using it to do something different to you. You get a downvote for making me waste time watching your video because of the horrendously clickbaity and insulting title. Make it clickbaity, sure, but don't insult your audience.
