Every year a novelty single is released to take on the X Factor for Xmas no.1......Let's try and get this classic and legendary theme tune to be this year's record.....Last year the 1991 rave anthem Altern8: Activ8 (which I have on 7" record) was that year's release but failed to reach the dizzy heights it peaked at 23 years ago.
Gladiator is sa poor second. I love this track and the show was epic too. you had contestedtans from all ove tthe EU with englich as their second language trying to understand Mathew Kelly's Irish.
+Brad G i grew up with this show all thru the late 80s and 90s it was on weekdays from 1.50pm to 2.20pm brilliant show. glad to see that it still has its appeal to a usa fan all these years later!
They made a pilot on that set at BBC Elstree for an American adaptation. Bill Rafferty, fresh from the Land of Parting Gifts, was the host. Sadly a series was never picked up for the States.
garry simpson That's Daphne Hudson (later Daphne Fowler following her second marriage), who was one of the original five Eggheads. She retired from the show last year.
Anthony Hobson Thank You Anthony. She was on so many quiz programmes, Fifteen to One,Mastermind,Jimmy Tarback"s quiz show, but I don"t think Daphine Hudson[nee Fowler] was on Who want"s to be a Millionare? Also although Going for Gold was broadcast on weekday afternoon"s on BBC 1 after the Australian Soap opera Nieghbours from 1988 untill 1992. [The original prize being two weeks tickets to the 1988 summer Olympic Games in Soual],I seem to remember as someone who had Satellite television from January 1989 that Going for Gold was transmitted at 8pm weekday evenings on the much missed Super Channel satellite TV channel. I am a disabled carrer for my 86 year old mother who has type 2 diebiates and my brother [who is] sadly dying of a secondary brain tumour. I live near the New Forest in Hampshire. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you again for your kind reply. GOD BLESS!
Ah don't mention it my friend. She also appeared on Australian sale of the century alongside this other gameshow talent David St John. Ever hear of him?
Omg I never knew hans fkn zimmer did the music for this!!
Childhood fave show this I used to watch when I was about 5 or 6
That Reg Grundy gets everywhere!
Still can't believe this was composed by Hans Zimmer.
You gotta start somewhere i suppose
@@jacksdjfam he did other works beside this

Going for Barry Grintals
90mrhoward Jim Campbell wins!!
No lie this is what I wake up to every day now.
@ 0:22...that's Daphne from Eggheads
Yes, she won the first series.
She also won a series of Fifteen to One. She's a career quiz-master.
And bullseye
And count down
this theme rocks
...and there I am at 1:07. Still have the gong, too. RIP Henry Kelly.
Henry Kelly is still alive!
*Do you mind me asking what the shade of your lipstick is, Mike?*
JokerCapt I have exaggerated the reports of his bad health, in order to appear an idiot.
MYEYESHAVEMELTED You will need to ask Grundy Productions, as they did my make-up.
Mike Pieke They say it is "Worm Purple".
This show is still on in France.
1:02 enthusiastic clapping by the foreigner there! 1:06 I've always had a bit of a crush on the Swedish girl
If you see any of them as 'the foreigner', you really didn't get it.
music by..... omg that shock ending!!!!
I can't decide which is the more epic Hans Zimmer composition. The Battle from Gladiator, or this.

If you can't decide that no-brainer, there's no hope for you.
Attn: Class of '19, Adopt this for your song and you won't regret it!
bring it back
They did back in 2008
Buzzr should show this show as part of their annual Buzzr Lost and Found event.
Not only that but she happens to be the winner of the series too...
Seems like eleven years ago you didn’t know how to reply to a comment, or maybe UA-cam didn’t let you then.
I know Pia Olsson who was the Swedish representative at the beginning.
Really?!
Woof!
Never knew that...besides I was a pup at the time
Truly one of the best quiz shows ever made. If they ever invited an American on the series, I'd be "ready and happy to play" anytime!

+dazens1 You know, the French version, "Questions pour un Champion" is still going strong today, so the format hasn't entirely gone away!
I didn't know that-thanks for the update Brad.

they did well to find a real live giant to be in it at 0.54!!
This is so 80s/90s it hurts
No hurt about it. It was and is perfection.
Lunchtimes on BBC1 If I remember rightly
+James Delaney yeah it was. I think it was on after the 1pm news and neighbours
@@peterwilliamskelhorn6675 you maybe right I think In later years it was moved to midday
and at 0.40 very briefly
Daphne at 2:08, why is she familiar?
jonescrusher1 She was a regular on Eggheads

Such a hopeful time against the background of the beautiful European project. It has me in floods of tears every time I watch this. Fuck Brexit.
