This is Hans Zimmer at his finest, no words to describe on how epic and emotional the score during this entire final battle sounds, I think the music fits the scene perfectly like a glove, starting with that rousing goose bump feel when the battle is just about to start, and ending with that soft, peaceful, melancholy, and beautiful serene tone when Katsumoto dies and takes one last look at the pedals flying with the wind, and states that "they are all perfect". to me one of Hans Zimmer's more underrated soundtracks.
Gotta love Watanabe's facial expression in that scene. I know it should show something like "That would be a worthy end", but it also looks like a simple, elated "Fuck yeah, let's do this."
and so the days of Samurai had ended, nations like men it is sometimes said have their own destiny, as for the American Captain no one knows what became of him, some say that he died of his wounds, others that he returned to his own country, but i would like to think that he found some small measure of peace that we all seek and few of us ever find*.
While heavily fictionalized, this is a tribute to a group of men who, rather than fade into obsolescence, chose instead to fight, and die, as they had lived. Would that all had the courage these men showed in their final moments
you concede it's heavily fictionalized then go on to play along with the fictionalization lol. the samurai fought for selfish reasons, they fought against the new world because they knew they'd be obsolete. they didn't fight for honor or anything like that. sure they fought to preserve their way of life- which was extremely corrupt. that's not to say there weren't any honorable samurai that upheld the merits of bushido. but for the most part samurai were as corrupt as any group of powerful people.
**kof kof kof** it's also the story of a nobility cast that refused to let their priviledge being take away by peasant and being equal to mere citizen **kof kof kof**
8:48 I really feel this to be the strongest part of the piece in which we see basically the end of a people a culture a way of life that makes the scene so much more poignant. The futility of their fight summed up in a 4 minute span.
The perfect blossom is a rare thing. You could spend your life looking for one, and it would not be a wasted life. [With his dying breath] Perfect... They are all... perfect... katsumoto:
The part starting at 6:20 is almost the same of the pearl harbor's soundtrack named "war", search for it if you want (I know it's the same composer, the great Hans Zimmer)
The Last charge is a reminder of the great Saigo Takamori and his band of warriors leading one Last charge against the Imperial army. Takamori had been one of the few responsible for overthrowing the Shogunate in the name of the Emperor but he lost his life when he tried to protect his customs and the customs of the Samurai
I would have laughed sooo hard if Ken Watanabe goes "THIS IS JAPAN!!!" and then charges...that would've been a massive mind blow considering this film is 2003.
May we never forget the warrior class and the middle class that betrayed them it is a world wide thing wheather it was the samurai, the vikings, the preatorian guard of Julius Caesar they all fought to the last man to the last breath i envy such warriors
I mean the "Last Samurai" was Katsumoto, that is why Algren remained (alive) as a witness to him and why everyone kneeled to his end. ...it wasn't a mainstream belief that Algren was THE last samurai ... right?!
Damian stabs Michael and runs to the center of time. Sparrow attempts to help but is smacked out by Draco. Damian takes on the rest of the three as he pushes towards the center. As immobilizes each one, he is about to reach the center until off to the side he is stabbed by Michael. Damian is brutalized by all 4, until near death.

I don't care if the movie was historically inaccurate, but my god that charge was glorious!
And the battles werent made wiht a greenscreen to make later sci fi bullshit like the return of the king did
Absolutely my friend 👍
I searched about what the last samurai movie is based on and there were Europeans that helped the samurai warriors
I agree with you.
When a French Officer helped the Shogunat against the Emperor until the Last battle

Saigo Takamori and his brave 500 Samurai of the Satsuma Rebellion against 10,000 Imperial Soldiers. Shiroyama, bushido honoured.

In the movie, that part of the score plays when the army open fire on the last remaining samurai using the howitzers. Its devastating. 😔

Nathan Algren the LAST samurai
Actually the last samurai were Katsumoto and his men.
I love this soundtrack🎵🔥
Are people finally ready to understand that Capt Algren (Tom Cruise) was never actually a samurai, thus he was NEVER ACTUALLY THE LAST SAMURAI??
I mean the "Last Samurai" was Katsumoto, that is why Algren remained (alive) as a witness to him and why everyone kneeled to his end.
