I wish I had all that space! My cold frame's first year has been very productive though. I was struggling to eat all my salad at one point. And I am now making my own compost so I have a nice continuity cycle going.
Wow Erica really good video . I’m surprised with the hot weather we has that your poly tunnel did so well , it’s so good you had the water . Wow your cucumbers did really well 🥒 ❣️🍅💜
I pulled all the courgettes a month ago. They were taking too much room and I wanted to plant winter crops. It looks like those green beans are not pollinating. Try to do it by hand. Squeeze open the flower is all you need to do
I'm in Nairn NE Scotland on the Moray coast, my Tom's never came to much this year in the poly (my 2nd year of growing) I still have a few little sun variety plants that have been stunted, no sign of fungus thankfully, I got blight last year😤, but I have a few fruits that developed but are still green, I'm hoping and praying for autumn Tom's now. In my greenhouse I got free from a friend in April, my tom plants have thrived and I've been enjoying the fruits from them since June, my 4 cucumber plants 2 in GH 2 in poly never came to anything I've had 1 cucumber and still only one left, my long sweet red peppers in the poly have been really slow this year I have fruits but not as many as last year and they're so much smaller, I don't think I've treated them any different to last year or between the the poly and GH re watering feeding etc, but overall I've been disappointed with results in the poly, I'm just wondering if the record breaker hot year we've had has been the difference. And the GH has a window in the roof, Thanks for sharing you're poly tunnel experience you've given me a few ideas to try next year. Looking forward to seeing what you try to grow overwinter I didn't grow anything last year, a real rookie mistake 😉🏴🦄
Hear in South Wales my yellow courgettes have gone berserk, I just can't pull them fast enough and that is fro just three plants. On the other hand from my two green courgette plants I've pulled two or three very poorly little courgettes and have infact composted the plants already. All my courgettes are grown outdoors and I am expecting still more of the yellow ones. Love your videos Erica and I love that your garden is not pristine just normal.
I had a rubbished courgette season too, same issue as you - what appears to be lack of pollination (i.e. the small fruitlets wither and die). But to me, it doesn't make sense that it's purely down to poor pollination because nothing else in my garden has failed to become pollinated, and I even tried pollinating them by hand a few times. I have noticed a conspicuous absence of courgettes from most/all other UK gardening channels this year, so I wonder if this has just been a bad year for them in general. On the flip side, I have seen so many growers showing off their cucumbers that I think this year must have been ideal for them. Moral of the story is grow a wide variety of different fruits/vegetables so that at least some of them will be having good weather conditions to grow.
Erica thank you so much, as your garden isn’t perfect and is more to real life. I didn’t succeed with courgettes in poly tunnel either ,my flowers weren’t getting pollinated so the fruits never set , plus they took up too much room in the poly. I have had success outside with courgettes especially an amazing yellow variant but some of the green ones also did not grow to full blown size as hadn’t set. I had success with board beans over the winter and potatoes in the poly as well as winter salad leaves. Xxxx
Your cucumbers are looking fab Erica, you have experimented with a few things in your polytunnel this year and most of them have done well, well done. Take care 😊
I experimented with upside down tomatoes. Hanging pots, with young plants in so the stems appear out the small hole at the bottem of the pot. The roots are getting water first, 'runoff' onto the stems. Have done well, little blight and no soil borne problems. (Plenty on the internet showing how to grow)
You could try the hanging baskets lower with chain or twine. Grow something that needs less water 💧. You had no blight and I have not had any either. Overall I’m very happy with my garden some things have not done well at all others have done exceptionally well very happy with my tomatoes and okra cucumbers beans and so many other things. It was really great to see you today we haven’t seen you for quite a while I miss your smile I hope you had a good summer peace and blessings will see you on the next one.
I’m using those coir liners in my baskets and what I found is if you put a small lining of plastic in the bottom all the water won’t run out. Just done do the entire basket or they can also get waterlogged. But great update Erica, how is the patio doing this year. Look forward to seeing your updates on the front yard too. Have a great week 🐝 safe

Nice one Erica, looking good.
A nice abundance! My courgettes have been pathetic too!
Lovely!
Thank you

My outdoor courgettes have been great too!

Funnily enough we had smashing courgettes (black beauty) this year but onions and peas were very disappointing.
I've had a fair few courgettes this year. Not as many as some years but certainly enough for us.
A fantastic end of August polytunnel tour video Erica. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week and happy gardening.

Thanks Bethan, I'm so pleased with the cucumbers! 😊

My courgettes have been rubbish this year as well, not sure why, I will try again next year 🤞🤞
My outdoor ones have been OK, just the indoor ones have been rubbish... Not sure why.
@My Northern Garden USDA 9a Thankyou, harvests always differ from year to year…
in a polytunnel any dwarf French bean will climb, and stop being dwarf1
Third year growing dwarf beans in a polytunnel and this is the first time they have done this.

I have a dish at the bottom of my hanging baskets too... Just haven't watered them enough obviously. 😂
@@ericaslittlewelshgarden I had never though of that it’s a great idea 💡
What should I grow now and shall I start in green house then plant out side as I started UA-cam video doing all this
There are loads of things!
