I used the DALL-E AI (otherwise known as Craiyon) to generate every texture in this Minecraft texture pack. I spent 28 total hours finding, editing, and adding these textures to the pack with additional help from FinlayPacks. I was genuinely shocked by how nice this texturepack came out. Artificial intelligence like DALL-E could be game-changing for Minecraft texture pack designers.

I’m pretty sure a lot of the old hd pack creators did a similar thing, where they just get photorealistic images from google and slap them together on photoshop

Actually, Craiyon used to be DALL-E-Mini, but since it wasn't official they got in trouble for using the DALL-E name, that's why they rebranded it to Craiyon

@@arcanine_enjoyer that's actually a thing to a degree. It's not that they are afraid but you have to adhere to certain standards and laws when you want to showcase video material. (e. G. Imagine Dall-E creating child porn)

they rebranded for the exact reason you showed at the start of the video, you called it "Dall•E" which is an entiarly different AI image generation program made by OpenAI, CrAIyon was originally just named after it ("Dall•E mini") they rebranded because they didn't want the 2 to be confused with one another because they didn't want their asses to be taken down by openAI

This is the first time I've seen any "practical" use of the new AI art stuff. I'm honestly impressed at how _useful_ this is. Made a decent looking texture pack with a whole lot less effort. Just goes to show that while AI won't necessarily replace humans, it will reduce the amount of tedious work by a significant margin. Someone from 2012 would probably be impressed with this pack. Nice work!
in that case you might be missing out on a lot of the stuff that’s going on with AI. This is Dall-e mini, but the 2 is much better. A graphic designer made a video looking over some results for stuff like packaging and they are absolutely crazy

Something this AI is also really good at is distant scenery shots, which can serve as backgrounds of art pieces as they are or be the inspirational base to work off of. In general, using the AI's results and the process that goes into formulating and refining the prompts as a source of inspiration is probably the best use for craiyon as it stands though.
I've found that the OpenAI has been extremely helpful in visualizing game concepts and drawing concept art for me.
I use this AI to create textures and matcaps for unity materials, works when you need something specific in a pinch

trying to get them to work in a square like in minecraft would be extremely difficult. also, pretty sure craiyon uses dall-e mini which isnt as powerful as the full version, so it has trouble with more advanced prompts.

Just a reminder that crayon is separate from dall-e! Crayon made their own image generation ai that isn’t quite as good as dall-e, and called themselves dall-e mini to piggyback off the success of dall-e. Dall-e, correctly, asked them to change their name to avoid confusion between the two, and they chose crayon as their new name.
iirc it was the same _architecture_ as dall·e, just smaller
same goes for gpt-neo, which i can't quite articulate why it wasn't renamed; i guess `dall·e` is more of a brand name whereas `gpt` is a generic acronym (`generative pretrained transformer`)

I would like to point out that craiyon was not "formerly DALL-E", but "formerly DALL-E MINI". there is a huge difference between DALL-E and the mini version.

I really do hope you make another one of these, so many youtubers who try this put very little effort in but the way you tweak things and carefully choose images makes it feel like a legitimately viable texture pack!
I love how you kept using "in the shape of a square" instead of just writing "texture".
That's because the AI doesn't give you a non-perspective, uniform square just by putting in "texture." AI doesn't interpret that word correctly.
@@SkeleTonHammer The AI is based on images taken from the internet, if you search texture the images will be flat, because that is what a texture looks like. Therefore the AI will produce flat images when you put the word texture. Literally all you had to do was test it out to prove that it works.

I think one thing that might be useful is more careful specification of three prompt. One big issue with these is that many are not tileable.
To fix this, one solution is to make them tileable in an image editor.
A more fun solution is to tell the AI to make them tileable and let it try its best.
This reminds me of old HD texturepacks that I'd use back in 1.7 lol. Looks surprisingly good, and makes me disturbingly nostalgic..

Dall-E and Craiyon aren't the same thing, Craiyon is a rebrand of Dall-E MINI, Dall-E still exists, and it's much more advanced, but only select artists have access to it.

I did a quick test, I think the prompt "tileable image of ___" might work slightly better, and avoids inserting a shape into the prompt. Some of the items in Minecraft are *not* fit for generation, though

This is quite nostalgic to me, it reminds me of a texture i used to play with when i was younger. At the time I thought it was the most realistic thing i ever saw because the poor laptop i had struggled to handle vanilla minecraft so it couldn't handle shaders and there weren't as many realistic textures as today.
I'm so sad this didn't blow up this is so underrated

That looks really good, even if you can tell it was made by AI when looking at water or lava. If you or someone else touched it up and finished the mobs, it could pass as a completely human made texture pack

Podzol is really common in there Pacific Northwest, it's like a mat of decomposing pine needles that covers the forest floor. It's squishy and less dense than normal dirt, and too acidic for many plants like grasses to take root in.
I thought someone already did this until I realised you put tons of effort in it unlike the other person I watched.

This turned really damn well. I tried upscaling the vanilla textures a while back. My GPU is pretty terrible, so I only did a couple textures, but the results were... varied.
They were definitely higher resolution, and some of them turned out real well. Others... not so much.
