Finnair Boeing 757 Bird Strike [Better Quality]

This is a reupload of the original bird strike video that is on my channel. Back then widescreen 16:9 wasn't supported by UA-cam so that video is now letterboxed and bad quality. This however is the raw DV file directly from the camcorder.

Finnair's Boing 757 engine exploding due to a large eagle flying into the engine, causing to aborting the takeoff (RTO). Ahmedabad, India airport (VAAH).
This was Finnair's leisure flight from Helsinki, Finland (EFHK) to Langkawi, Malaysia (WMKL). Refueling stop in Ahmedabad, India (VAAH).
Date: February 15, 2006
Aircraft registration: OH-LBR
After the accident, we had to stay for about 16 hours in a local hotel (Hotel Haveli, to be exact) in Gandhinagar, near Ahmedabad. After that, a replacement aircraft arrived from Helsinki and our trip continued as planned.
The video was featured on MSNBC in July 2009.

Excellent reaction time. The bird strike was followed within a second by the RTO. I feel safe with pilots like this on the flight deck! Also, hearing his voice afterwards was quite chilling - I would have been the same in that situation. Even with all your training, there's a moment of 'holy shit' when saving everyone's lives was on you for a moment. I expect he needed some time in a dark room after that!

That’s not an explosion. It was a compressor stall/surge from the bird strike. And they likely could have continued. Honestly, it would have been better to happen AFTER V1 because they would have flown and they would have seen that the engine was fine and continued. All that really needs to happen is a visual inspection and an engine run-up to confirm no vibrations. If fine, let it fly.

Coming from a ex-cabin clear at a major airport, Finnair planes were usually about 10x cleaner than others.
