  • The side tubes were a little bit of a challenge. Check to make sure your doors can open before you start drilling holes in your frame...lol.
Dougs support did finally contact me and offer to send me out a new set

Not sure what kind of video I'm watching for the side pipes but I'm 67 years old had 27 surgeries including 4 total knee replacements I ordered my set of headers from Doug's for my 79 put them on by myself in a day and didn't have to trim nothing and they point out and slightly 10 degrees tilt down

I commend you on your photography coverage. I have owned several C3 and C2 Corvettes, most of which were big block engines. With different engines come different mounting situations. At present, my 1981 has an OBX Stainless Steel system. The fit was no problem but the sound is obnoxious for a quasi-stock engine. For the most part, I was a Hooker fan but they have gone insane with their pricing. Additionally, they were all sold as a packaged deal. I noticed that yours came ala cart. Regardless, the best method for mounting the exhaust is to test fit, as you did, then drill a 3/16" pilot hole in the frame and use self-tapping bolts. This eliminates the washers and nuts and gives you all the clearance you require without having to butcher the rocker panels.

TIP: you use "Flat Black or semi-gloss High Heat Grill Paint" to repair scratches and nicks,
that's pretty much what they use when their made. I also dry fit my headers on,
grinded on the frame and welded the T-bolts in place on the outside
that way there's no shifting if I have to remove them for any reason and I
made sure the doors had clearance first. The pipe opening should face straight out.
not up or down, some custom shops hammer the tabs flat and mount them from the bottom
of the frame so they can turn the pipe into place after mounting. It's a pain but they make a C3 look
AWESOME!! And if you want to increase the sound to make it raspier, I cut the mufflers in half "Yes in half."
pinched the cut ends together and reinstalled and it sounds NASTY!! of course, having a bigger cam helps, I ran the
pipes without mufflers for 2 weeks until the Police said they could hear me a mile away. but
I wasn't going to spend $400 on a basic Glass pack muffler to replace them from Doug's or Flow Master,
so, I improvised, and it worked out LOL

Thanks for telling about the cost. That is kind of important because it gives us an idea what they are worth

You hung them upside down, the hanger goes to the top. And like magic the exit will pint down.

Off topic question. What temp does your coolant run at. I own a 1980 yellow vette as well. Built 350 engine. Coolant temp running 225° or hotter when its hotter oitside?

My c2 sidepipes mount in the slot UNDER the frame not on the side, check your mufflers for left to right

I have dough headers and side pipes that look just like these but mine are like from 20 years ago that are easy to take off and install. I have none of those cuts and it fits with all the factory stuff with no modifications.

I installed those as well and they were a pain. Some off the same issues you had. I did a video of the sound comparison also.

I may be way off base but I think the tube on the right should go on the driver side and bolt under the frame in the factory keyholes for a carriage bolt. At least thats how mine mounted and the exhaust exit is exactly pointing out to the side on mine. Mine are Doug side pipes on my 1981 with vortec chevy small chamber heads! I did not even have to remove my side rockers to install them. Thanks. Great videos...

I used Hooker Super-Comp header-side pipes. Installed of side pipes was easy and side pipe empty straight out from car body. With mufflers installed is loud but in my 1978 C-3 I am running a 496ci big block Chevy. Soon if ever delivered by Blueprint engines after a 10 month wait still waiting on a new 540 power adder engine to be run with a 10-71 polished blower on e85 for grocery getting. Still no delivery date given from Blueprint Engines even after June was delivery date.....ugh!

Yeah, I should have gone with Hookers...I read all the fitting issues were much better with Dougs than Hooker...after doing the install I pretty much disagree with that.
Your future setup sounds awesome, I assume you will need to cut a hole in your hood for the 10-71?
Everything seems to have shipping issues lately.

Would be to easy if the people who make the exhaust had correct measurements after all these years.... -_-

Douglas headers are the worst in the industry. I bought a set for my 76 Corvette. They won’t fit flush to the heads. There is a quarter inch gap at the bottom called him 4 or 5 times to try to get it taken care of every time they said, don’t worry it’s all taken care of, but they were never taken care of

I originally tried to install the tabs straight up, but had to bend them
