    NYC has been the heaviest I've experienced. I'm born & raised there, so going back was not a big deal. NY doesn't have the best pay either. When they do, they expect more than they have 2 offer. U WILL WORK 4 UR TRAVEL PAY. The pay makes it worth it somewhat. It's better than working short staff 4 way less money. I'm finishing up an assignment n NY & they dump admissions on u like ur not doing anything I had 3 back 2 back, 2 arrived @ the same time. The support is not always there, but with the right attitude, ur peers will help. I'm used 2 being floated a lot, but where I am n NY, they don't allow travelers 2 float. I don't mind floating bc I get 2 c other units & learn more. I never had a horrible travel experience though. I kinda take it 4 what it is.
    Salute 2 u guys on ur travel journey.
    1 piece of advice...if u get a high pay contract, don't hesitate 2 extend ur contract 2 lock n that rate. B4 u do, check around & c what rates r going for 1 month b4 ur contract ends 2 get an idea of what's out there. Sign 2 multiple agencies. There is no loyalty. I don't care how nice ur recruiter is. Going with multiple agencies opens ur options 2 locations & more money. Ur time is valuable.

      Wow thanks so much for your comment and for your great advice. Yeah we most def had to work really hard for our travel pay and it wasn’t easy, but it’s def a great learning experience for us to have going into our future assignments in CA and other states. Hope you have a great week!

    Having no unit clerk to help with admitting patients onto a unit and do the necessary administrative side of things sounds terrible. Just adds even more work load for nurses!

      Yeah it was pretty hectic! Haha 6 patients can also be a lot especially if the acuities are high. Hope it gets better! ☺️

    Hi Kevin and Isel. Currently got my acceptance into Nursing school. And am just so skeptical about going into the program. Scared I might regret this, just so confused😔. If you had the option will you reconsider going to nursing school??

      Hey, thanks so much for watching! Hmm, to be honest that’s a difficult question to answer. Like any career it has its pros and cons, some of the pros being it’s a career that has great lateral mobility. There are so many options to choose from in terms of specialty (patient populations you can work with) and even work setting if you feel a change is needed. In addition we even have the option of going back to school to be a provider (Nurse Practitioner) or a CRNA. On the other hand, nurses tend to be overworked and mistreated by hospitals and tossed into a poor work environment with little support. Pay also varies state to state. The better the hospital, the better the likelihood of good working conditions though so I would recommend if you choose to be a nurse, to do your best to find the best hospital in your area possible. In our experience, hospitals with less prestige tend to give nurses the worst work environment. For example, giving you too many patients at once. At great hospitals nurses have a safe nurse to patient ratio and also provide a great safe learning experience for new nurses. Typically 5 or 6 patients per nurse on a med/surg floor is what’s expected at good hospitals. Best of luck to you and it’s understandable you feel scared since it’s a big decision. We wish you well on your journey! Overall we don’t regret going to nursing school but of course it’s important to make this decision without money being the key factor as motivation cause there are plenty of jobs that make similar or if not more $$ and yet have less physical and mental distress that nurses endure.

    I know in this contract you said you are local but when you are out of town, what do you guys use when looking for housing?

      Hey, we recently took a contract out of town and used AirBnB. I know some people use hotels for the first couple of weeks just in case and book an Airbnb after just to be safe 😊

    Does travel nurse agency pay you guys stipend/hotel and flight separately?

    • @KevinIsel
      @KevinIsel  Рік тому +3

      Hey there 😊 as far as the travel agencies we use (Host, Aya, Triage) they do pay for housing and flight separately. You’ll get a weekly stipend for meals & housing if you’re 50+ miles away from home. You can also ask if you can be reimbursed for scrubs you buy. Hope that helps!
