The 'Rung' composed by the legendary Amir Khusrau occupies a place of pride in the qawwali repertoire performed in the Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia Dargah during the birth anniversary of the great saint.
It is believed that this rung was composed and set to tune by Amir Khusrau himself. There are so many stories behind this beautiful composition but the one accepted by all is that, 'Rung' is the rapture of Amir Khusrau on attaining a spiritual guide, a pir, Nizamuddin Auliya, it is an ecstatic announcement that he makes to his mother (referred to as “Ma”), this wonder of attaining a guide like Nizamuddin Auliya. It also draws out the significance of Nizamuddin Auliya as a Sufi pir representing the light of Prophet Muhammad and the wisdom of Hz. Ali.
Composed in delicate and playful Hindavi, the qawwali symbolises the particular synthesis of Indian and Persianate musical traditions. The concept of the rung, or hue, has special significance in the mysticism of Islam. Rung becomes an attribute and an aspired consequence of the bond between the Beloved and the lover in Chishtiya Sufism, where the seeker seeks to be completely immersed in the color of love through constant remembrance of Allah, propagated in the practice of Zikr and Sama in Chishtiya Sufism.
Rung refers to an overwhelming, all-encompassing, transmitted pervasiveness, which connects a lover to its destiny of love, unity, and oneness through a sustained mystical ambition resulting in spiritual exaltation. The 'Rang' has been variously explored in the film and music culture of South Asia.
Behind this masterpiece is the stunning trio consisting of Bindhu Malini, Ankit Chadha, and Vedanth Bharadwaj.
Bindhu Malini is a singer trained in both Carnatic and Hindustani music and hails from a family of musicians. She has composed and sung for jingles and films in Hindi, Kannada, and Tamil. Since 2014, Bindhu has also been part of a musical narrative on Hazrat Amir Khusrau.
Ankit Chadha was known for his unique style of storytelling in Urdu and had performed at various national and international stages, including universities like Harvard, Yale, and Toronto.
An alumnus of the Trinity College London, Vedanth Bharadwaj is an Indian vocalist and music composer who is best known for his songs and poems from the Bhakti movement.

Rajasthan Kabir Yatra is a 7 days-long annual traveling folk music festival spread across six rural and urban locations in and around Rajasthan. Organized by Lokayan, Bikaner and partnered with Rajasthan Police, this is a folk festival providing a space where folk musicians, artists, scholars, students, and seekers can immerse themselves in the voices of Bhakti and Sufi saint-poets such as Kabir, Mira, Bulleh Shah, and many more, questioning and dissolving boundaries of caste, class, religion, and identity.
The five editions, in 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 were widely chronicled and appreciated. It brought together 50 artists, over 400 Yatris every year from other parts of India, and thousands of local audiences.
