LED vs HID in Factory Halogen Projector Headlights

- Опубліковано 23 лис 2024
- In this video we compare 9600 Lumen 6000k LED bulbs to 55w 6000k HID bulbs in factory halogen projectors on the factory RAM projector headlights. I was shocked at the difference between the two and just how much the HID outperformed the LED bulbs in this shootout! The HID is much brighter and gives a clear visibility with great cutout and no dead spots. While the LED light quickly dies and does not light up the road well at all.

BoostedMotorsports why are the 9006 led bulbs that the link shows differentr from the ones you used in the video?
The hid kit is a couple hundred dollars. You are comparing it to a $40 led kit. Compare it the the supernova V.4 led kit. It's $169. I feel that would be a more fair comparison.
@@chrishotham2854 more like a 32$ hid kit vs a $45 led kit
@@bbltd.3154 Damn hid use to be Really expensive they've gotten cheap over the years. I have the Hikari In my low beam on my 2020 Honda Civic hatchback It has projector low beam headlights. They're pretty damn bright. Every so often I have people high beaming me. I bought the Hikari off of Amazon a couple months ago for $34 a set. They must have recently went up. I've also had some projector headlight on some cars and Led did not work very well. So I think it depends on the particular projector you have.
Comparison is somewhat flawed because as already noted the LEDs are overheating which reduces their performance and of course there are better LED kits, some even cheaper, example, those with LEDs on four sides, those with different focus and etc.
Note To All: This is a great lighting change. I did the Innovited HID 6000k and couldn't be happier but.....BEWARE of some car washes especially touchless. They use a lot of high pressure water and at weird angles that you wouldn't get with normal driving. My install was the exact same as Boosted's but the grommet failed to keep the headlight sealed and I got moisture inside both housings. Luckily nothing blew but I have to take them off now and dry them out. You may need to silicon around that grommet if you hit the wash often.
Thanks for the feedback and great tip! Silicone is a good idea too! With all the bulb swapping and testing I've been doing I didn't do this but it is definitely a good idea!
Hey John, used your link for the Innovited from Amazon but got confused at the page with the amount of options. I have a 2014 Laramie with all options but want to do the light upgrade. What is the specifis model # do I need to get?
And that is with inexpensive HID's. Try some high end HID's and you will really be amazed.
Thanks so much for this video. As someone who had LEDs in my previous car with reflector housings, I wanted the 6000k colour on my new car that came factory stock with HIDs in a projector housing. It sucks that they don't sell 6000k HIDs for factory projector assemblies so I started looking at putting LEDs in. Thanks for saving me the time and effort of changing them out and changing them back! Very helpful and much appreciated.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you found the video helpful 👍👍👍
I've seen situations where LED's perform just as great as HID's. Every vehicle headlight housing is different. The headlight housings also make a difference in beam patterns as well as the amount of light output the unit allows. Projector lighting units burn out over time, limiting the amount of the light output. So in some cases it won't matter how bright the HID or LED bulbs are.
If you drive at night for long periods LEDs dim down substantially to prevent heat damage to the LED chip. HID will nit dim like this and have a longer throw distance in general
I wish I seen this before I installed LED In my car 💀💀
SAME 😭
Led are badass unless ur running projector headlights
This advice is spot on. I went ahead and bought aftermarket Soec-d HID projector halos for my 2011 Ram 1500. In LOVE
Thats awesome Sadie glad you found it helpful! 👍😎
Man I am so glad that I found this channel, I have 2014 Ram and have pretty much the same setup you have, talk about some modifications in the future for my truck, especially the HID bulbs!!!! Keep up with the tips, tricks and mods!!!!
Thanks for the support on the channel! Plenty of content on the way so be sure to check back often! 😁
l was about to go out and install some LEDs this morning, hoping the written reviews were exaggerating how unfocused LEDs were in the projector housings. THis video convinced me to just return the LEDs and buy the HIDs before even trying out the LEDs. Thanks for the video
I recommend innovited! I have a 2015 gmc sierra with 9012 bulbs. 6k 55w with relay are perfect! Visibility doubled no bs. Working on a video.
I had the same HID kit in my 99 Grand Cherokee when I installed projectors on it and loved how wide the beam pattern was and how far the light was projected. Fast forward a few years and I got a 17 Civic with Hikari LED and I thought it was the projectors that were the issue. I'm getting the same fuzzy and unfocused light pattern with dead zones and no throw you had. And same as you, my LED fog lights are doing all the work. After seeing the light pattern on the clipboard it all made sense and I was sold on going back to HID. The outside comparison of the two was insane.
First of all great video, method and explanation.
Just so people know, in March of 2018 LEDs were generally not very good for projectors. In the video you can clearly see the LED bulb was "clocked" crooked and showed the dead areas made by the wider chip housing.
For what it's worth, SOME manufacturers have noted these issues, and have started setting chips in the thinnest housings, as close to where the bulb filament was, and also made it so you can adjust the "blade" after they are in your projector units.
And if it wasn't for videos like this, those changes would have taken a very long time, so thanks again.
Thanks Jay! True probably could be clocked a bit better. One of the nice things with HID is it works similar to the original halogen it replaced without clocking 😎
Thanks for the info
The led type I used on my bike (which has projectors installed) I had to used a 360 degree type led. Works perfect.
Similar experience with my '06 Beetle - LEDs in the projectors were terribly dim compared to the halogen bulbs. Conclusion: LED bulbs do not work well in projectors as retrofits.
Yeah I agree Dennis! Much better suited to put HID in the factory halogen projectors 👍
I honestly thought LEDs would be better as its new technology... I was wrong.
Both my bmw E30 and ford fiesta van have HiD bulbs with projectors. hands down destroy the LEDs
Glad to see your tinkering paid off. Sometimes mods don't turn out the way you hoped. Its nice to see the HID improvement. The passenger side headlight should have a longer throw than the driver side. The idea is to provide plenty of light down the road without glare into oncoming traffic. It would be interesting to see the LED on the right and HID on the left. Good comparison.
Thanks for the feedback! It was way better in the end for sure!
Thanks for sharing this, I just ordered the same kit yesterday after being surprised (like many others) how poor the performance was from an LED in a halogen projector housing.
Thanks for the review of hid in projector lights I have a 2020 soul and the projectors suck. I too was worried about LEDs not giving a good pattern and a projector. But on a side note my daughter's 2022 Corolla with factory design LEDs are excellent lights
I know this is late but the dot you're seeing from the led w two opposing lights patterns is cause by the tip extending further then the led chip itself. The light has to shine around that thus creating a bend, especially if the chips aren't horizontal evenly. This is why some come with adjustable fittings so if it doesn't line up right you can make it.
Just ordered my headlights 💯 real glad I watched this video before just buying random bulbs!
Thanks! Let me know what you think of the other mod videos on this channel too when you get a chance!
BoostedMotorsports Quick question. So I installed my HID but it seems like randomly while I’m parked or driving the light turn off or on. What do you think is the problem there? They don’t seem to turn on or off when you’re driving over bumby roads so they are well connected. I do have the canbus decoder on it
BoostedMotorsports so yeah it seems like after a while they shut off and on then after the third time it completely shuts off and doesn’t turn back on until the truck is restarted. Would it be the canbus decoder?
@@CimarronCarlos that's why i ditched my hid headlights i bought nice morimoto hids for my truck and once it get a little cold out one likes to just shut off randomly annoying and kinda embarrassing having a light always shut off on me
I just bought my 2016 hemi sport and that's going to be my first mod keep up with those good videos.
I got a 2016 also and this video just screwed me. I got the 9012 and it takes the 9005 bulb. so beware.
I just installed the HID bulbs on my 2017 ram 1500. the lighting looks completely insanely bright! The brand I'm using is called GENSSI X-TREAM SERIES. love em, and I only got for $45. Absolutely better than standard LED.
Ya and ur probably blinding everyone
@@stepdad9953 I get blind by stock LEDs on new cars as well.
Seems like HID still owns the night. I got some LED bulbs i'm going to try out in my Mustang. I doubt they are going to beat my HID setup.
Yeah LED seems to perform well in reflector style housings while HID works great it projectors. 😎
Great video and explained very nicely. Just wanted to clarify if the light output will be safe for oncoming traffic in terms of glare , if any, caused by having an HID in a Halogen Projector. Looking for a light upgrade myself and this video was an eye opener.
Glare was not changed and I never had anyone flash their lights at me from oncoming traffic. The cutoff remains the same level just becomes brighter than the halogen bulb that was there before! You won’t be disappointed. Links in the description for thus setup 👍
Innovited does has a Canbus HID system That I am currently running on my 13’ ram , works awesome. My 9006 bulb fits perfectly in the projector housing with no modifications as well .
No flickering with the canbus system. I had ordered the $40 with out the canbus ballast and blew through one bulb , but after they sent me a canbus HID ballast everything worked fine

There is the link to exactly what you will need , just make sure to choose the correct bulb size for your spyder headlight housing. Follow the instructions from this video and you should be fine
So if the ballast is canbus, does that mean I wouldn't need a resistor adapter setup like most people do for the rams.
I have a 14 Ram, I love your videos, I just did the exact same HID upgrade thanks to you, awesome videos man!
the light out put is a 100 times better then the led set up you had before .that's the best setup for the projections and the fogs with leds . I did the same thing to my ram and I commute to and from work on dark country roads when I'm coming home man you can see everything . thanks for making all the videos for the ram 1500 can't wait to see what you do next..
Thanks brother appreciate it! Yeah I couldn't believe the difference but I'm a lot happier with the light output for sure! 👍
Bought the kit. Got the c6 fogs as well. Followed the vid tutorial. Thanks bro. Total difference
Hell yeah thats awesome Chris glad you like it! 👍
@@BoostedMotorsports Do you mind sharing how long did they lasted?
Thanks
@MtgCoach our revised kit is on our website ShopBoosted.com
I just bought an Innovited 35 watt 4300k can-bus kit for a Mercedes c300, hopefully this will fix the poor lighting issue with stock halogen projectors.
It’s funny that I thought of the same thing about factory projectors not projecting the LED as efficient and as it should ‘coz for some reason the light projected by my projector is at least half of what my stock halogen projected.
Excellent video....Professionally done. I like how you actually forecast what you are going to do before you do it. You also explain what and why very articulately. So many other DIY videos don't do that or the video is jumpy.....Good work brother! Keep it up!
Thanks Brent I appreciate it! Doing my best to bring quality and valuable videos but always learning and getting better. Be sure to check out the other videos on the channel when you get a chance too. Plenty more content on the way! 👍
do you have the picture of the poor LED kit? I would like to avoid those type/design.
I had HIDs in the past. About 6-10 months after I put them in, the main computer component on the truck blew and I had to replace, 2k later. They dealer was the only one who could fix it and they attributed to blowing of the computer to the HIDS I had installed. Have you every heard anything like this before? Had this problem?
Damn that sucks! I haven't heard that and still no issues on mine after running a bunch of different setups for over a year 😎
Thanks! You helped me make my decision
The problem with those hikari is the led chip placement and the chip it self the chip dosnt mimic the factory halogen
Hid bulb in an hid projector is even better. Much more work but much better output.
Forsure!!!
Have you had any issues with
-longevity
-headlamp melting
-color phase shift
since you installed these since 25th March 2018?
Thanks in advance.
I didn't run in to the issue with led's you demonstrated. Maybe the brand or too short a led off the ballast. You need a longer thinner led, not the short ones.
I can really relate to your comment when you said: "when you look at them they dont look really different",..... this is the thing with some of my friends they look at the LED bulb that they just installed and it does look bright but they also need to look at the road and check and see for them selves how the LED lights up the road, in my opinion, probably eventually LED will catch up, I still think personally that HID is much brighter and they do throw lights much much further on the road and wider too. yes they do take time to warm up, unlike LED which is instant ON. I usually drive at night on the country side where there arent many light poles, so i only rely on my headlights and HID really makes a huge difference for me. YOu just need to find a reputable brand for the HID bulb and the ballast and you are good to go.
Just in case you didn't know or someone hasn't told you ...... the driver headlight unit by law has to be always lower by factory so "you" won't blind upcoming traffic 😣 and when it comes to LED VS HID.... HID will will that battle.
It was a good video, my friend. But when you attach a xenon lamp to a halogen projector and you used 55 watts. You will cause the coating inside the projector to wear faster. Since you're using 55 watts, this scenario will happen faster. Because the temperature is much higher in xenon projectors, the coating is much thicker. Halogen lamps will generate less heat than xenon lamps, so the coating on the projector is thinner. Best regards, thanks
Wow!!! Thats a huge diff from the LED's. I like that, but I would need to find someone that would b willing to drill the cover & mount the boxes for me, I cant do that myself. Too bad you werent near where I live Id pay u to do this install for me!!
Its pretty easy to do! What area are you in? You could always ship the covers to drill them out its pretty easy! 😁
BoostedMotorsports Im in Central Pennsylvania
I installed this exact kit with the exact decoder and it wouldn’t turn on or it would flicker I did everything exactly the way you did it
Morimoto and GTR LED bulbs can replicate the HID better in the projector headlight, but I dont blame you, this is an old retrofit
55 watt HIDs are significantly brighter than 35 watt HIDs. Typically LEDs that don't have 360 degree light output will look like the ones you have. The newer ones do better with 360 degree coverage but will still lag behind any 55 HID. The LEDs I have in my Ridgeline outperform the HIDs in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Anything is better than the halogens. The use of 4300 to 6000 Kelvin makes even a same lumens LED or HID outperform the 3500K halogen because they reflect better. Those in the Ram are excellent..
Here's the problem with HIDs with no glare shields or with them. The light hot spot is concentrated in the center and doesnt do an even amount of light in a 140 degrees. You're not suppose to have a center bright hot spot in projector headlights. You can see further with HIDs but you won't see anything at night at your 10 o clock and 2 o clock positions when you're suppose to.
I’m curious if the newer HIKARI Ultra led bulbs work better with the redesign of the ends. There isn’t that round piece at the end of the led bulb anymore and now create a pretty sharp line on the wall as compared to these older ones. Plus the HIKARI uses the new Phillips Lumiled diodes versus those ones that were used prior.
How are your projector bowls? HID’s produce a lot of UV radiation which causes the bowls to burn (look at the bowls of the E46) OEM HID’s suffer from that as well, eventually.
So you put 9012 HID's in? The link goes to 9006 on Amazon.
The passenger side is always pointed up more so it shines farther down the road; whereas the driver side would blind oncoming cars if it were pointed up to match the passenger side.
Do you still recommend this set up today? I have a 2017 RAM with the factory projector housing. Also, is the new HIKARI LED Headlight Bulbs Conversion Kit-9006(HB4),2019 New Gen of HIKARI, Adjustable Beam, 9600lm 6K Cool White,2 Yr Warranty from Amazon comparable to the $70 Hikari LED fog lights you have?
Yes I would still go with a HID in these projectors for the best light output
Does the INNOVITED 55w HID KIT for the low beams still the best for the money? and will it mess up the factory projector housing in the long run?
Thanks again for the help.
Yeah I would go with the innovited 55w. Its the best bang for buck super bright and reliable. No issues with the factory housings and worked solid the whole time before I sold the truck 👍
@@BoostedMotorsports I installed the Innovited 55w to my 2017 RAM 1500 but I get the warning "low beam out" and no light output. The bulbs are ok when I turn the engine off and on but it will give the warning again and no light output. Did you have this problem?
@@bmwlady5820 did you ever correct this?
Stumbled upon this channel a couple of days ago and convinced myself to go with HID's for low and LED's for fogs finally! I have a 2014 as well that I've been hesitant to mod at all. I was against swapping out the stock lights from bad experiences with HID's in the past but sounds like most people are having success and the video makes it look incredibly simple.
Just finished installing OPT7 CANbus 35w kit in the lows and already see a huge improvement. Install was just as easy as the video makes it look, good work! No codes or flickering but concerned from other's comments there may be issues down the road? Is using the auto function not recommended? Is it overkill to get CANbus decoders now and install them as a "just in case"?
I also installed JDM ASTAR G4 LED's for the fogs and can't believe how bright they are! I ordered the same set for the Hi beams but there's no way they will fit. The fan for the LED is way too deep to squeeze into the housing. Has anyone had success installing an LED set for their Hi beams? I also haven't had a chance to drive at night yet with the new HID set up...is it even worth putting LED's in Hi beams?
Hi Matt, with the HIDs I think it would be best to use your switch because of the striking/restrike with the HID bulbs. From my little knowledge of them, they only have so many cycles before the bulbs are trash. They should last a good while though so don't let that bother you. Using the switch would be the easiest way to cut those number of cycles and extend the life even further. I ran a full LED setup (Hi's and Lo's) for 2.5 years because I wanted to keep the Auto functionality. Looking back I regret it because the HIDs in the Lo's are way brighter. You may be fine with just HIDs. I have a 2015 and the CANbus is a pain. I am not sure exactly what the model year was when RAM refreshed it. My buddy had a 2012 and he was fine with HIDs with no codes/no decoders. If you are getting light and not popping a code you may be all good. You could always add them later if you have issues.
You can run LED highs without modifying, but it is tedious and a bit of a MOFO to get them in. You will curse. A LOT! Depends on the fan length though, the bulbs I found off a guy on a forum barely fit. I am not sure it would be worth the frustration. Unless you are able to find a bulb with high lumen output with a short(er) fan. Some of the stuff on amazon has dimensions listed. May be worth a measure it you want to go down that road. They're way brighter though, but I have not driven with the HIDs yet as I am still working through CANbus BS. Good luck.
brascle32 thank you for the quick response! I’ve become spoiled with the auto function...I’ll plan to be the guinea pig for everyone and give an update if any issues pop up / how long the bulbs last.
That was the main reason I stayed away from HID’s for as long as did. In my last truck it felt like I was replacing bulbs or ballast every six months. They would of course always go out on road trips...
Hoping that isn’t the case with these but always safe to have a spare kit in the closet for (hopefully not) the inevitable!
Great video buddy, very well done.......And yes , i can see a huge difference between the both....The H.I.D kicked the L.E.D 'S ASS, i need some new bulbs for my car , you made it very clear that H.I.D is the best way to go........Thanks
Thanks for the feedback brother! Yup the HID made a HUGE difference! 👍👍
Awesome stuff. I had got a different hid kit from Amazon that was $90 and I wasn't happy with it..I tried that after not having a lot of success with a $100+ LED headlights kit. Clocking the bulbs seems to be an important thing and definitely an issue with the difference of these aftermarket bulbs. I'm back to halogens for now.
Yeah I can totally relate to your struggles! I have 5000k and 4300k replacement bulbs on the way too for us to compare so should be interesting to see the light output and comparison of these. Should have this for you guys in a week or so!
Boosted2k excellent! Thanks for doing this for us
Thanks for the info. So if you don’t recommend this particular kit because of the pigtail issue. Which other kit would you recommend?
So upset, gonna have to return my led cause they don’t work that well on my car, I need to get some HIDs
Thanks so much brother 👊
Goes pretty far but doesn’t seem too wide though. How is it at lighting up the ditches and bushes on the side of the road?
Forgot to say your truck looks awesome
Thanks brother 🤘
Did you have to run a power relay to the battery? I ordered a set of hids and the company says I need to run extra wiring to the battery?
Just bought the hikari ultra led 9005 to put into my 2016 ram 1500 sport. I heard the hikari ultras shine as bright and have a great beam pattern as some of the good Hid kits out there. I'll see how they go, I also bought the hikari 9006 to put into the fogs. I have to stop watching your vids. I keep buying everything you show, cause I also got the license plate bulbs you had in one of your other vids. Keep up the awesome vids.
Hey how are the Hikari Ultras working for you? Would you recommend them? As bright as HIDs? Thanks!
@@teranenrique I'm not sure how bright the HID get but these Hikaris are bright. They are way brighter than stock, I really like them. If you plan on getting them you have to get the canbus system to go with the headlights and the fog lights or they will flicker on you. All in all I would definitely buy again. Hope this helps you out man.
@@LivePastHealthy Thank you. It does, i will give them a try!
Great video, I’ve got the same kit from innovited but 500k bulb, if you wanted even brighter try the 500k bulbs they only go like for $20 bucks
This video was awesome and easy to follow to install the HID kit. Only problem I’ve run into is that my HIDs take turns working now and sometimes go out completely, I have the 55w 5k and the hakari decoders you recommenced.. I’m thinking next is to install relays for both lights... did you run into this problem? If so how did you remedy it? P.S. I’m running these on a 2016 ram. Thanks for your advice in advance!
Thanks! A bunch of us are finding the auto headlight function doesn't agree with this setup but if you turn the headlights on/off manually it seems to work fine. I haven't explored a solution yet and just got used to turning them on/off manually but its odd there is no bulb out errors. If you find a solution definitely post it up! I tried a different brand of decoders but didn't work out.
Yes u need a relay
Dude, I ran into the same situation with my 2017 Ram 1500. I ended up getting the relay harness to help with the power issue, however, I am getting the "lowbeam out" error code. I tried to reach out to the innovative staff but they want me to get the 35 watt kit instead which makes no since. I am hoping BoostedMotorsports will help with this problem
Wow! huge difference!! thanks !! Liked !! What housings are you using? Stock?
Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it! These are stock sport headlights/housings only changed the bulbs 👍
i noticed in the comments for the canbus kit they sell it says you need a relay too... do you know why it's recommended? you didn't use one.
There is enough power to run the HID kit but the biggest issue is trying to keep the CANBUS system happy and not throw a code. A bunch of us have been running the CANBUS decoders which are a good solution but the Hikari ones we've been using don't last very long. I'll update everyone soon with a better setup for the decoder.
55w run so hot they can actually melt stuff in your headlight assembly. I'd rather use the 35w even if I lose out a little bit on brightness.
Compared to your LED fogs, your HID’s headlights appear to have a blue tint. Is this the case? I am unsure about purchasing the 5000k vs the 6000k, I just don’t want a blue tint.
What's up John? Thanks for all u do. Have learned a lot from this channel. I as well have a 2018 ram and clicked on the link u have for the hid bulb replacement and when i do amazon tells me it doesn't fit the ram application. maybe it's me but would u double check the link u show us? Thanks from Texas
I put LEDS in the projectors and they are so dim. Today I'm putting a 55w 6000k HID kit on.
Nice video. My low beam just went out on my 2015. Been looking at doing this. Looks awesome. Question...did you alter your cabin lights? They look brighter.
Thanks Richard! Yes I have another video on the cabin light upgrade as well you should check out! 🤙
How have these bulbs held up over the years?
Because LEDs suck for projector headlight assemblies while HIDs soar for projectors. LEDs have the best beam pattern in reflective type headlight assemblies vs HIDs that only scatter the light.
Thank you so much for this video. The Amazon link for the INNOVITED 55w HID KIT for the low beams doesn't work anymore. Can you post an Amazon link to the correct 55w HID Kit because there are so many to choose from. Will the Innovited 55W AC HID bundle with (1 Pair) Slim Ballast and (1 Pair) Xenon bulb 9005 5000K (Pure White) work? In your video you mention using 9012 6000K.
The Innovited HIT 55w, you use the diamond white? You have a video on the modification you said you did to turn the bulb around? Thanks for the info. Think I’m going with this set up. H11, H9, H8 kit on amazon?
Those look amazing! Wish I would have waited and got those.
Yeah I was honestly shocked at the difference. I honestly didn't think it would be too a big deal but its honestly night and day (no pun intended) 🤣
Never forget that the light on the driver's side looks lower and deeper
Great informative video, do you find the 55 watt HID bulbs too hot for the headlights? I was warned and have the 35 watt HID bulbs in my Taurus.
How did you avoid moisture inside the lights
Thanks for the video! I am ordering these right away.. they're still holding up since the install? would you recommend this brand also for high beams?
Your videos are so helpful! Thank you very much for taking the time to do them! 90% of What you have done I've replicated and I'm very happy... I've ordered the fogs and I'm about to order the hids.... but for some reason they don't ship the deciders to Canada...? Are they the same decoders you used for the fogs?

Hey love your videos. I have a 2014 ram 1500 like you and i used your recommendation followed your video which was very easy and informative and installed the innovited hids. They work awesome just like you said but I noticed that my head lights don't work on auto anymore. I have to turn them on for the headlights to work. Did that happen with yours and if so what was the fix?
Never mind I got it figured out
Hey Angel sorry just seeing this now. How did you end up fixing it?
Hi, I received the H 11 H9 H8 kit. The replacements did not fit, so i returned them. Can you please point me in the right direction as to which kit to buy. I even called the company and they directed me to the H11 kit....I'm lost!
Thanks for all the videos, you REALLY do a great job of explaining.
Thanks Tony. Click on this and enter your truck information. There are many different bulbs for these trucks so you'll have to see which one your truck has www.philipsautolighting.com/ajax_select.php
No good for the Phillips site. Mine is a 2018, the site only goes up to 2017. Mines a Longhorn with projector lights.
I’ve had the same problem, I got the same kit and for some reason the base of the HID bulb doesn’t fit in the assembly because it’s too small. I’m not sure why mine doesn’t fit. I have the same kit as you and my truck is 2013 Ram 1500 sport with projector lights
****UPDATE****
Make sure you know what size light bulb you need because you need to specify on the website when you click his link! I clicked his link the first time and just assumed the default size would fit and that wasn't the case. Make sure you select 9012 if your RAM has projector headlights and is 2013-2015. Check the size of your light bulbs on google or check your stock ones to see the size!
Man, the passenger side is always wider and further than driver side beam pattern in modern cars/trucks.
I bought an LED kit that has the light diodes 360° and it's so much brighter. The key is don't ever buy those two sided LED kits for projector headlights.
Hey Boosted, I really liked the video. I have a question. I also have car which has projector of halogen 35w. So as per your video it seems if I have to upgrade my headlights its better to upgrade to HIDs rather to LEDs as I also faced the same issue as you mentioned in your video that in halogen projector, the LEDs doesn't work well.
My next question is from 35W to 55W, will it not heat up the housing more and damage it?
Hey thanks for the question! If you have the factory project headlights I would definitely recommend the HID bulbs over the LED for this application. Also you won't have any issue running the 55w kit 😎
With the headlight and fog light set ups you used. Can you tell the difference in lighting "color" when they are both on at the same time? Or do they have the same tint to them? Low beams and fog lights.
Hey Landon all bulbs usually are different color even from one brand to the next. Right now I'm currently rocking 5000k Innovited 55w HID in the lows and the Hikari LED bulbs in the fogs and its a pretty nice white color for both!
BoostedMotorsports right on! Thanks brother. Great videos.
excellent review...
I've got a 2015 tundra with spyder headlights projector. Can not see a thing at night. The head light uses one bulb for high beam and low beam ? So would the high beam work with thus kit ?
Hey man, I’m new to your channel and you have awesome videos. Amazon tells me that this kit (9012 bulbs) don’t fit my truck. Should I ignore that? Your headlight are just like mine
Great video,,just little bit confuse,,for ram projector headlight is 9005 or 9006?tq sir
Thanks for the info man been wanting to get away from stock bulbs. I was wondering though so will the leds work just fine in the fog lights ?
No problem Zack! Yes LED work great in the fogs. Check out the other vids on this channel we have a ton of videos on the lighting setup for this truck 👍
@@BoostedMotorsports thanks for the quick response i wasnt expecting that. I have a 2015 2500 Laramie 4x4..
Really good LED headlights look much better! After market HID is cumbersome and not as effective
I'm glad I found this video. I was about to buy a led kit for my 06 mazda3 which has projector headlights. I'd heard about this issue with LED vs hid in projector headlights but your video convinced me against the LED conversion. Is there a guide on what wattage to use for hids?
Thanks David! 55w are typically brighter than 35w with the tradeoff of shorter bulb life but its not an issue and if you buy a quality kit it will still last a long time.
Dude I had an 06 Mazda 3 and I put LED headlights in. The auxbeam f16s. They were brighter than stock but did not have a to used hotspot. This means there was no beam going straight down the road. Just a lot of light flooding the area right in front of the car.
Distance visibility was worse than stock halogens. Not to mention I had to leave the dust cap off for them to fit...
Definitely good call not putting them in the Mazda.
@@rcvg69420 thanks for the feedback!
55w minimum, 100w even better. I got 100w on my car.
Great video man, but I have a suggestion. Next time you should separate your videos or title it correctly. Video title says led vs hid in projectors, not led vs hid projectors and how to install them. Again I love the content and you do a great job and I am not a content creator by any means but only a consumer that watches videos. With the title I was wanting to see the difference and only the difference, not all the explaining on how to install everything. With the explaining of the difference of led and hid is understandable and helpful for those that don't know, it could have been better in its own context or video separated from the how to video. Thanks again for the content man, you keep doing a great job with that. Look forward to hopefully seeing the different content structure.
Just the info I was looking for. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🤟
Yea pretty good video but I stayed with the LEDs. Easier setup for plug and play. Specially if you are leasing and want a cheaper plug and play setup and step up the stock setup that Ram should had already included, specifically in a Laramie .
I agree Mike the stock bulbs are absolutely brutal!
excellent video! I've been looking for a set of headlights for my vw passat and I think I found it, thank you :)
Awesome Cristina! Let us know how you like them!!!
Hey with this 55w kit, do I have to worry about them burning my projector housings? Thanks in advance
can you see the sides of the roads with the HIDs
Boosted. I have a 2015 ram that doesn’t have the hid headlights I was wondering if you know if there is a set of lights or ( bulbs ) that I can purchase to brighten up my head lights. Plug and go only. I’d like to replace all 6 so they look the same color! Thanks for your answer in advance
For some odd reason I cant get my 9006 or 9012 bulbs to fit in the oem projector headlights on my 2016 Ram. Honestly it looks like I might just have to trim them
what low beam bulbs did you end up with? The innovited ones dont fit and suck!
Looking for the correct brand/bulb?
Thanks
Were the original factory bulbs in your lights H7? If so how did you convert them to 9012, does the innovite kit come with the stuff to do that?
