- This program shows Union Pacific's former Denver & Rio Grande Western mainline between Helper and Provo, Utah. This part of the old D&RGW is a great place to watch trains.
Running over the Wasatch Mountains and Soldier Summit, this is a heavy-duty railroad with many maximum tonnage trains.
In this program, you'll see trains of the Union Pacific, Utah Railway, BNSF, and Amtrak as they climb up and over this twisting mountain railroad. This is a coal line, and you'll see some Utah Railway trains with as many as 10 units-4 on the front, with 6-unit manned helpers!
Enjoy action at all the great locations, including Helper, the tunnels at Nolan and Kyune, Summit, the Gilluly Loops, Thistle and much more!

That union pacific sd9043/Mac has the number 8191 is my favorite train. Because I am a big fan of trains when I was a kid.
Soldier Summit is an interesting place to watch trains
What Steam Locomotive are we gonna see in CNTSRR.
This Is Utah's Incredible Soldier Summit Great 😊😊😊
I have the Soldier Summit route add-on and the Salt Lake City extension add-on to my Train Simulator Classic game on Steam. They made the route look like it in the middle to late 1980's during the Rio Grande era.
I'm sure there are differences between your sim and my video that happened over time.
@@RailwayProductions Oh, yes, there are. For example, the real route was owned by the Denver and Rio Grande Western until it was bought by the Southern Pacific in 1992, then in 1996, it was acquired by the Union Pacific. And today, it is now owned by the UP.
Those GE mid train Rock Crushers were filling the canyon with music
Soldier Summit in all its glory this is my favorite place to railfan. I like @AndrewCrumb also have this route for Train Simulator. Much has changed UP owns it now most of the tracks have been rerouted, and the signals have been replaced this is a good route.
Glad you enjoyed the program. And yes, things on this line have really changed.
@@RailwayProductions most of the trains now are BNSF run-through crude trains and the gas local from Wildcat UP sometimes comes through here and BNSF and UP still run coal and iron trains but not like they use to. the closure of Castle Gate and Wildcat have reduced the amount of coal that comes down the line. Coal loads at CV and at Scofield and UP and BNSF run unit trains to Valmy and to Colorado Springs they don't run to Delta anymore that plant has converted to natural gas because of CEPA regulations. The iron ore still goes to the pipe mill but they no longer serve Geneva Steel that plant closed when this program wrapped they now ship it to Long Beach and it goes out on ships to Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and China and comes back as steel and cars. Zephyr still stops here but no longer at Rio Station they moved to the intermodal hub. A plan by two architects from BYU and University of Utah plan to reroute the tracks back onto their original alinement and bury the trains underground and rebuild Grant Interlocking underground. Hopefully if successful we can bring Rio Station back.
Very nice Train video
I heard that the westbound train past through Buena Vista Colorado and heading for Provo Utah!!!
Nice video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing this video. I haven’t been out to the Helper area in about 15 years. Doesn’t look like much has changed.
Much will probably never change 20 years from now.
Awesome video. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent photography job enabling viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. ( 4-21-1897 ) . Outlaws Butch Cassidy & Elzy Lay robbed the Castle Gate mining companies pay roll of $ 1'000.00 after the money 💰 was delivered by rail road 🚂 express car😲. Enjoying this presentation from the comfort of my computer room. Along the " Space Coast "🚀of Florida 🐊🐊. Wishing viewers/R.R. Employees a safe/healthy/prosperous (2024). 🌈🎉😉.
Those one of a kind Knudsen(Nudsen) units Are cool
great video 🚅🚅👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
I saw there are Ex Southern Pacific Locomotives on a UP Coal Train going upgrade
So. Don't do amtrak if you wanna be on time. Wonderful business model. The emd power exhibition throughout, can't miss.
They only have trackage rights on those lines but zero priority. So any delayed freight train makes them wait.
Thanks to the uploader for this, really enjoyed the video. A question for the experts- Mention is made of the “Manned Mid Train Helpers” so does that mean the four mid train helpers are all crewed of just the lead loco of the group.
The helpers have a separate train crew aboard them
The helpers have their own crew and only travel to the summit before cutting out and returning to Helper.
Would you do Cumbres and Toltec Scenic railroad.
It was my understanding that the freight, particularly coal, have really diminished in volume and frequency over the last 10 years or so -- is that in fact true?
i see the Amtrak Trains
You didn't show passing the station at Leavenworth
What’s the railroad at the very beginning of the intro? I’m guessing White Pass and Yukon but if I’m wrong someone let me know!
When was this filmed cuz it's definitely not like this now I moved not too far away from price and I hardly ever see any trains
This was shot in 2006 and 2007
I guess us rail fans should call CSX new paint scheme the three-quarter ass paint scheme cuz it's just a little bit more than a half-assed but it looks like a half-assed paint scheme
They need to take those locomotives to a robo car wash
I'm sorry. You're gonna do this with solar power? 😂😂😂
Nope, natural gas
