The Propet Stability Walker solves the problem in 4E. I buy the grey/red stripe. Coolest I can find. The New Balance Nitrel Speed ride is mesh and flexible for Summer. It's in 4E too. I wear permanent AFO's due to PTTD. I sized up a size or 2. Best I can find. Try and see.
I wear an AFL also and have trouble finding shoes that are deep enough because my toes always get squashed. I always have to find velcro shoes also because I only have one good hand. Thank you for your videos sweetheart.
My son just got a new AFO, and I just found a shoe that fits it. Normal size is 10.5, new shoe is a 13. Now I'll have to buy a second pair of the smaller size for his other foot. Sketchers Streetwear, there is no padding, so the shoe is very floppy and flexible, and it has a small tongue so you can get the AFO in easily. Hopefully they stand up to the brace.
I have two shell/sided AFOs and it's been a joke finding shoes to wear. You can get a shoe 4+ your size, and it doesn't matter, because it's still not wide/flexible enough. Struggle is really real
I feel ya. I have two different types of AFOs, so shoe shopping is so hard. I use to love air walks in till payless closed it doors. now I just buy $20 quick slip on runner that will have holes within 6 months if I'm lucky . everyone tells me to buy more expensive shoes because they will last longer. HA they would be so wrong.
Try zumiez. They typically carry a ton of skater shoes. Im going tomorrow to try on a ton of shoes cause I need more. Im weird about buying expensive shoes as well, I destroy shoes fster than most people.
My afos help me destroy shoes every 4-6 months. Once a hole starts to rip on the sides they are demoted to in the house shoes. I don’t wear outside shoes inside the house. I usually only have one pair of outside shoes.
The comfortable shoes I've had were Vans, Air walks always seemed too tight for me and would only last 2 years tops compared to 6 years wearing my Vans.
Hello Can you make a video of you taking off your AFO's and socks after having them on for the day? I'm curious to see how your feet look, if there are any pressure points and stuff, mine get really red sometimes.
I've been lucky with wearing kids tennis shoes. (But I also have narrow feet) Usually, if I don't have on braces, my shoe size is a kids 4 usually. With braces, if I get about a 5-6 in kids, I am pretty A.OK. Adidas are really good for me, the shell toe ones. I have a couple pairs of those. My braces fit in the 4.5 sized ones a bit snug, and the 6.5 sized ones with room. I really want to see if I can fit the fly ease by Nike ones.
I have a dead bone in my ankle so I had to get an AFO and I am running into the same problem. I normally wear a size 13 mens wide and those shoes don't even come close to taking this damn AFO. My doctor kept telling me how easily this was going to fit in my shoes, the lies.
so sorry it took me a month to get back to you, shoes are hard to find. I suggest looking into men's skater shoes and new balance. also some podiatrist offices do sell orthopedic shoes that don't look too bad that typically fit over AFOs
Not Your Average Zebra I actually found that the afo was making my ankle worse so I just stopped wearing it. It was trying way too hard to correct my situation. They are 3D printing me a new bone so hopefully I won’t need any of it anymore!
I'm currently in a pair of mens size 10 wide width to accommodate my afo footplate. Keep in mind that without braces that I fit in mens size 8 normal width. So, yup, buying shoes are a bitch.
I recommend taking a look at turbomed orthotics afo's. I use them for running and walking in general. They're external, lightweight and provide amazing support. Now it costs 800 bucks which I understand is a lot but I'm sure it'll be great for long boarding and skating also as it goes outside the shoes you can wear whatever shoes you want and it doesn't look clunky and gross. They have a UA-cam video I recommend checking it out.
Hi...i can't get my braces to fit into timberlands because I already have a wide foot and the braces just make them wider. Without I can wear a youth 5. With them on I go more toward youth 6 or 7. So not a huge difference just have to watch the width.
Totally agree. I'm not wearing old people ugly shoes or spending a million bucks on a pair of shoes.
Agreed. Most of the "comfort" shoes are old ladyish. Sneakers are easy to find to fit an AFO,but what about dressy shoes? No way.

I actually thought I was the only person who was having problems with the whole shoe thing

I struggle with trying to find wide shoes as well

Airwalks I always have to stretch out a bit. I guess I should check vans again. A few people told me they fit pretty well.

Im going to make a video on how I handled my pressure points I used to have. Maybe give a few ideas to anyone that get red pressure point.

@@NotYourAverageZebra How did you get your braces?
did you try going a side up
+Samantha Lopez yes. I could go up several sizes and shoes won't fit cause of the width needed.
