    I just ordered a set of wild edge ladder steps!! Also 150' of 24strand double braided 11.5mm Poison Ivy rope to use as a climbing method.. I like the lightweight platform idea.. I just ordered a sit drag and much of your suggested items and got some new rope for lineman belt and tether rope and the ropeman ascenders for them!! Can't wait to get out there after Columbus Day today (Sunday) I ran lift at ski area and loaded over 6000 people up the hill for fall chairlift rides!! Man busy weekend with our fall festival!!! Thanks for your tips and suggestions, I like that you and others like NYsaddle hunters recommend each other's vids.. it is a great community.. until my sit drag shows up I will be using my homemade saddle built around a backpack with 1/4" heavy plastic with 2" webbing and 1.5" leg strap webbing.. it is quite comfortable while practicing in my side yard maple tree.. can even go upside down and feel safe.. thanks!!

    I remember earlier in the year seeing this Wild Edge Stepladder product & I think in conjunction with the Lone Wolf XOP I will have a nice setup. I plan 2 order soon 2 practice with all spring & summer with my new Kestrel flex saddle. Thanks 4 the reminder.

    I'm going to a saddle this year also. I'm actually excited about the transition and more gear to tinker with lol. I might go sticks on one side of tree and platform on the other just can't hunt to big of trees if I want 360 with that system

    • @G2Outdoors
      @G2Outdoors  7 років тому

      That's a great idea. One thing I should have mentioned is that the small platforms only give you 360 degree shooting on small trees (8"-14" diameter). If you like to hunt bigger trees, you'll need to add a couple steps to your strong side (left side of tree if you're a right handed shooter). The +Wild Edge Inc. Ladders are great for this.

    I noticed with my hawk helium's big double step I don't really need anything as long as it's not a huge tree. Especially for a sitter/leaner

  • @DIYSportsman
    @DIYSportsman 7 років тому

    Great comparison Greg! The only piece of info I'll add is that an additional off-the-shelf but discontinued option is the LW Assassin. It's the most rock solid platform IMO but also 50% heavier and awkward to carry.

    • @G2Outdoors
      @G2Outdoors  7 років тому

      Good catch. I also forgot Climb Paws! I've never stood on an Assassin, but I assumed the XOP style was close enough to replicate it. Is that a good assumption or no?

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman 7 років тому

      G2 Outdoors The Assassin is quite a bit thicker, especially near the tree and thins as you go out towards the edge, so it really doesn't have any noticeable flex if you bounce your weight up and down. Feels like standing on a treestand platform.

    I use the ameristep steps in combination with the top steps of my helium sticks. Switching to over center buckles next year. I switched to Saddle this year and can’t believe I haven’t been doing it my whole life. Love it. I like the stepp ladders but they are more cumbersome to pack and carry up tree. Love the videos. I have some similar videos. You should check em out.

    Hey brother, their is a ton of climbing saddles on Amazon the look on the higher end. Will these work for hunting. Because the hunting brand on UA-cam are really expensive and take weeks to get

    As a brand new saddle hunter, which platform type do you suggest trying first? I'm looking at the step platform from Bullman because I like the price, but I think I might like the platform better. I'm just having a hard time justifying all these purchases to my wife. Lol.

    • @G2Outdoors
      @G2Outdoors  6 років тому +1

      Rye Bailey a ring of steps is super versatile, but I'm partial to the pivot style platforms. For a ring style, Bullman is a good option. For a pivot style, you'll either have to DIY something, find a used one online, or buy the Tethrd Predator.

    Awesome video very helpful!
    I’m just getting into saddle hunting. I saw some stealth steps online and was wondering if they would be an option for a platform? Do u have any experience with these?

    • @G2Outdoors
      @G2Outdoors  7 років тому

      I believe the general consensus on SaddleHunter.com was the Stealth Steps didn't work that great as a mobile platform. They were bulky to carry around. However, as a preset platform, they probably would work very well.

      Good luck! They come up for sale on forums, ebay, and craigslist from time to time. But there's no commercial option right now. I'm working on that.

    Great video, I used the XOP seat DIY method with spliced Amsteel and always get so frustrated up in the tree getting that thing at just the right length to cam over. I use LW sticks to climb and will probably just buy another belt to do what you've shown. Wondering what that rubber is you slipped over the buckle to silence it? Thanks

    Isn't it harder to shoot accurately since your body is at an angle?

    • @G2Outdoors
      @G2Outdoors  7 років тому

      Adam Patzka I don't think so. It takes practice. It's not that different than shooting from a treestand. If you don't practice, you could be off.

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman 7 років тому +3

      Adam Patzka Actually it can be more forgiving since you're better replicating torso alignment that you'd have shooting on the ground. You're taught to bend at the waist with a tree stand, but on closer shots most people don't have the mobility to maintain that good T form. Saddle makes it easier, just takes some practice to really get comfortable with the new feeling.

    It will be nice 2 use my Burley camo bike cart loaded with less gear behind my Fat-tire bike while wearing no packs on my person going in & coming out. Big advantage especially if u get a deer & need 2 bring everything out.
