If anyone says this wasnt the best duel of Arc-V they are just plain crazy. This was the duel which introduced us to the Dimension War and how the Protag/Antags can easily swap without us realising. I love this duel for its action, the fright the Death-Toys gave people and Shuns speeches
This is the second best in my opinion. My favorite is the first duel between Jack and Yuya. Yuya threw everything he had at Jack but he was just no match for the one true king.
One of the most intense characters of Arc V Vs A Sweet kid with teddy bears who suddenly turns completly psycho in less than one and a half episode...if no idea what makes it special
@@nedrostram2360 Yeah lol I actually got really excited when Sora betrayed the cast solely because I recognized the symbolism in his deck of the cute stuffed animal exterior being tore apart by sharp deadly blades that were nothing like what was shown previously.
Not just that, it's the fact that if flips out perspective on both characters. One starts think Sora would be the "good guy" who would win in the end while Kurosaki would be the "bad guy", only to subvert our expectations in the most exquisite way possible
This entire duel was absolutely amazing. From the introduction to the dueling, the little subtle hints that Sora's people incited a War with Shun's people and home, Shun's absolutely badass dueling skills and acrobatic skills. The intensity of his Voice Actor when declaring basically anything angrily. The monsters and duel itself. That duel was simply amazing, no other way to describe it. To me, this was the 2nd best duel in all of YGO for me. Episode 24 made me a huge fan of Shun, but from episode 33 onward he became my favourite YGO character ever. Long Live the Raidraptor King! *Still salty at how the ending really screwed him and Yuto and Ruri over though*
You also got to recognize that before this duel, the viewer had no idea that Rank-Up-Magic would show up. The viewer had previous knowledge that RUM cards were a Barian/Astra power or a card created to fight against the Barians. The only RUM card Humans (Sans Yuma) could use was Argent Chaos Force, and it put a big strain on the humans body. When I first saw Shun activate a RUM, I remember me and the chat freaking out. It meant that anything from the previous series were on the table. And guess what, about 13-15 episodes later, D-Wheels show up. This was probably the start of the prologue for what was to come later in the series.
Yeah, when he used Rank-Up Magic I was SO surprised and delighted. It made me wonder if we'd even get accel synchro or super poly. And we did get super poly, as well as Jack doing a double tune which was cool. Arc-V had a lot of problems, but there's no doubt that it had a lot of good ideas.
Absolutely everything. Sora turning out to be part of army that consists of hedonistic serial killers really took me by surprise all those years ago. He seemed sketchy, but I never expected that bombshell.
The build up and framing add so much to it as well. Had these two characters not been previously introduced as suspicious without any hint of a connection, had there not been the twist heel turn, and had they not crafted the confrontation around the atrocities of war without pulling any punches (the symbolic destruction of the field, essentially collateral damage, is truly grisly and disturbing) then it wouldnt have the same impact.
Tbh, Sora stays hedonistic but in his case it's kind of like a virtue? He values his entertainment way more than the institution that stole his childhood from him, no matter how much they drilled loyalty on him, which was the whole reason why he stayed a wild card even after it was made clear that he cared about Yuya and Yuzu more than he cared about whatever mission Academia gave him or his petty revenge against Kurosaki. And what Sora derives his entertainment the most is being with Yuya and Yuzu, because he had no friends in Academia due to the dog-eat-dog environment he was in. He still stays insufferably arrogant but his loyalty to Yuya and Yuzu healed most of his insanity as shown on that duel, it's probably the ONLY time Yuya brought someone over through the power of EGAO in a way that makes sense
Their duel was so awesome in Arc-V! It was a fight between a member of the Resistance from Xyz and a Duel Academia Soldier from Fusion. What a masterpiece, indeed
It's duels like this that make the ending of Arc-V sting that much more. This was one of the most hype duels in the entirety of Yugioh for me, getting back into the series after dropping Zexal, I was beyond excited to hear about Academia, about how dark and twisted this seemingly cute and innocent card game anime was becoming, just everything about this duel was fantastic and I really hope yugioh can recreate this magic again one day.
@@christopherb501 I don't even think the series can ever get back to Arcv season1-levels of good. True greatness only shows up once, and the concept cannot be recycled without it feeling cheap.
@@pn2294 Well, that's you. Most people I have seen either agree with me or hate ArcV for the same reason they hate Zexal or possibly even all sequels.(Aka. they would have hated it no matter, the execution doesn't matter to them.)
The thumbnail picture is 10/10 it looks so great! This is one of the duels I will randomly go back and watch just because of how good it is (the others being Lifestream Dragon, Yusei vs Zone and the final Revolver vs Soulburner duels)
I literally have a playlist of awesome duels on my laptop called "Yu-Gi-Oh for Rainy Days" with a bunch of my favourite duels in it so that I have something to do if I ever lose my wifi again. Of course, this duel is definitely in the playlist.
This duel was a masterpiece. The emotions and intensity was well done. One of the best duels in Arc V. After this duel, Shun/Shay became one of my favorite characters in the show. Awesome Job Dylan. Keep up the great work.
I honestly loved how shun put dennis in his place considering what dennis had done. Kidnapping shuns sister ruri, giving academia the green light to turn a happy city into a living hell, and even playing on ruri's emotions at that time made me scream and yell and just root for shun to give that bastard a good butt kicking that he rightfully deserved!
I liked parts of it, but overall the duel just hit the exact same beats as the duel with Sora. Not to mention Dennis just switching to generic ancient gears was lame
This Duel was the moment that shit hit the fan in Arc-V. It was the moment that told us that this show wasnt going to be as "kidish" as we thought. And it added a 1000 lv mystery with the "Heartland" fieldspell. This episode set into to a motion a really good yugioh plot and story, and if the final 8 episodes werent so bad, it could have been one of the top best Yugioh storylines
I remember when at the end when Sora’s life points hit zero he was crushed with a falling tower thing but since it was augmented reality it didn’t hurt him or kill him. And also when Sora did that smile which kinda looked like a smile of insanity or something.
Sora/Shay was an incredible duel and I loved how pissed Shay was when the Action Field was revealed The action was brutal and I love how the twist of Sora being allied with Academia was revealed Shay is an amazing character and so is Sora, but I wish his defection back to the good side was done better 😃
Me too! Honestly I wish most characters' good side turning was done better...Aster's good siding just kind of made all his progress from General of the terrorists (maybe a bit strong accusation tho) to good guy in what felt like 5 minutes
@@sparkypikachu7776Yeah! They had a lot of potentially amazing character arcs with some of the fusion characters becoming good guys, but they didn’t really do much with it sadly
I've always loved how the animators exaggerated Sora's cuteness in this duel between how he acts and just how he's animated in general early on, so that they could completely subvert it when he loses his freaking mind. Also the "We take our comrades back" line always gives me chills.
About the right and left character placement in yugioh I believe it's because in Japan you read from right to left instead of left to right, so they place protagonists on the right and their antagonists on the left. Whereas in the west we read left to right and place characters there
This duel cemented both these characters for the entire show. As much as it built Sora, having Shun overcome it and coming out of his shell so to speak made him even better of a duelist and as a character.
This could be a series like Legendary Duels or something, could cover the best duel from each show like Soulburner v. Revolver in VRAINS, Kaiba v. Yugi (Battle City), Hell Kaiser v. Possessed Johan, etc.
They each took one off the other to boot. This rivalry is charged with a lot of dimension-tied prejudice displaying the darkest side of Sora. Even though he gets past that later, this is unforgettable. He outdoes Dennis at the whole act of deception. I still prefer Sora to Shun, watching mostly for these crazy kinds of moments, but man did he shock him here!
I agree Sora and Dennis are really the 'chameleons' of Academia both acting as entertainers for Rival Standard Dimension Duel Schools You Show and Leo Duel School/Leo Institute of Dueling respectively but eventually revealed to be on the War Criminal side and I agree Sora did a slightly better job of the Academia Chameleon Role than Dennis but both roles made me like those Academia Agents personally.
i had rewatched these episodes and made a giant essay explaining why this duel is so important to my friends literally like Hours before this video dropped LMAO
He had a neat character arc idolizes Yuya goes to You Show! but we don't know he is a spy from Fusion but has a notable friendship with Yuya to the point where he turned against Academy. I like this character.
@@YugiohEverything but imagine if Zuzu loses his father and decides to be adopted by Shay or Sora and I want to see those 2 duel again for the fate of getting a new sibling
Me, annoyed that Shun didn't use Pendulum, because that's at least 2 other pieces of support (I mean, RRs have a lot of support, but a lot of it is garbage, and who knows? Maybe those would make the deck less Normal Summon reliant)
@@pietrocatalano4285 Twice, actually. Once with a tag duel with, like, 5 other people (with Shingo's Pedulims after Gongenzaka gave them yo him) and once in a tag duel with Yuya (3x Singing Lanius, that's a brick hand if I ever saw one)
@@pidgeyottot3527 The support isn't garbage? Its a pretty decent causal deck as it can search both more raidraptors and rank up cards. Its XYZ monsters have tons of power and they have some counter traps that can be searched as well. So I'd say they're pretty good.
Shun has pretty much the best duels of the entire series. My favorite duel is Shun vs LDS trio, but more because It's the best written "team duel" of the entire franchise. The synergy between their plays and the way the effortlessly supported each other with different decks and without needing to use useless cards that have nothing to do with their playstyle was * chef's kiss * Shun debut in that duel was super memorable with the huge ass attack stat achieved so early in the Show with that awesome attack animation of Rise Falcon! Shun vs. Dennis was also freaking intense! I love the whole sequence of Satellite Falcon attacking, from the chant to it to that super overkill kill sat attack!
One thing you never pointed out is that their respective character designs are also created to fool us. Shun's design looks like one you would expect from a villain or at least a minor antagonist, with the dark colors and sharper lines, while Sora's design and color-palette looks a lot more like he's one of the good-guys. Everything about this duel is just made to fool the viewers, and I absolutely love that!
This duel is incredible. I love how Shun knows who Sora is inside, and as Sora loses it's composture more and more, Shun is calm and focused the entire time. And the finalle just shows that Sora tought it was all an easy game, and only realised he was not the hunter anymore when his life points were reduced to zero, wich you can see in his eyes
I’m gonna be honest sora was my favorite character of this arc he’s so cool with his frightfurs and I was kinda happy when he beat shun in their second duel
Arc-V was super hype and had so many incredibly awesome moments with a journey that I looked forward to continue watching... ... then there was that ending.
This was also so good because I think it’s fair to say shun was a lot of peoples favorite character or the one they were most interested in at that point already and the duel surprisingly (at that point) makes you side with him and most everyone wascompletely down to
The animation, the constant back-and-forth in the duel, the ost and without a doubt the interactions between them that kickstarted the plot even further.
This legit is in my top 10 duels in the entire Yu-Gi-Oh series. I especially love how they completely 180ed Sora's character even if it was forshadowed in his own deck. Sora and Shin's dialogue even give me goosebumps even tho the audience both in show and outside don't know what they were talking about
What made this fight so good for me is that the 2 decks i really like for this era of yugioh are played against each other. The story behind it adds to the spice. Then the characters wielding the respected deck were one of the best of the entire season.
This duel made me love Yu-Gi-Oh! I stated watching Arc-V right after 5D's and when I reached this duel, it overwhelmed me with emotions, because of it's execution and that how I when I started watching Zexal. Currently it's my top 1 duel for me
I still remember watching this duel when it came out and it was literally the defining point of the show. Everything after this duel was completely different than everything before this duel. This duel had brilliant animations, outstanding dialogue and build up, amazing action and beautiful storytelling which perfectly set up the rest of Arc-V with its Dimensional War.
Thank you Dylan for a Good Video! This was a good duel in Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V. I remember watching this duel and being caught off guard by it. I knew there was something up with Sora, but I would have not guess that was it.
Would consider doing what made Yuya vs Yuri so great? That’s another fantastic Arc V duel and would love to see you praise something Arc V related beyond the Miami Championship. Or maybe Yuya vs Ruri and Serena (my personal favourite) which is also amazing and maybe if you want to do Vrains, Soulburner vs Revolver R2.
@@thegreatjackson6762 Ah yes, that. Barrett’s broken Beastborg locked Yuya out of doing out of playing anything yet he still intends to fight to protect Yuzu and Serena. Barrett even acknowledges him as a honourable duelist and warrior. Even better in that duel, when Yuzu is trapped by Sergey’s field spell, he discards Smile World to destroy it and free her symbolising that he’s willing to abandoning his smile philosophy and entertainment duelling so long as Yuzu’s safe and can at least make her smile. Really displays how much he loves her.
The way Shun's and Sora's deck functioned was a reflection of their story: Rise Falcon dying, followed by the activation of Rank-Up-Magic Raptor's Force that summoned Blaze Falcon, symbolizing how no matter how many comrades fall, another will rise in his place, the resistance cannot be taken down. The activation of Revolution Force, taking the Blaze Falcon and using it for Revolution Falcon, as he said that they will always take their comrades back.
Easily 1 of the best duels in the entire franchise! I still get hyped rewatching it and its one of my top 3 duels in Arc V. If you make another video like this I think it should be Yuma/Yuto vs Serena and Ruri
I remember fondly all the theories that came about with the hints the show writers had been gently dropping; if they were going to hint to GX Academia orZexals heartland, all to come to head with this duel. While the series had so many flaws, the first year of Arc-v still remains to be the most exciting year of yugioh i've ever experienced.
Honestly one of the best duels in the franchise as a whole. The entire build up over several episode made this even better. The music, the plot, the action, its all just so perfect. Definitely in my top ten for the entire franchise.
Ehhhhh, I’m not a big fan of the action fields myself. Actions cards just feel like a cheap cop out at times. Everyone getting cards like Miracle or Evasion 90% just made it a real turn off. But this duel I’d rather give it a pass due to the tension and action that it has.
@@ordinaldragoon I mean they should have used the field like shun and Sora did here. Crazy jumps and slides, falling from the sky, and blowing everything up!
Yuya vs Sawatari prior is underrated as well, it nailed the whole entertainment and action duel idea, with two characters who pretty much became frivals by the end of it and oddly nothing on that scale was seen again? Shun vs Sora is probably on the same level as Nasch vs Vector, so much story told through one duel, with enough back and forth to keep you guessing. The duels with unravelling history behind them seem to be something YGO has become quite skilled at over the years.
I think the reason is that it is Sawatari. He is a good duelist and character, but he is basically designed for the fanbase to dislike him and to ignore content with him. He has a really bad duelrecord(Only one solo-win. Nice. Even Aoi has a better ratio and she became a meme.) for instance.
@@lpfan4491 I like Sawatari, he was one of the few characters in Arc-v to get some actual character development. Doesn't seem right to dismiss him but the series did Sawatari dirty by making him YGO's greatest jobber; why show him with all this skill and then never give him any wins? You're probably right Darian, coming off the Yuya/Sawatari duel really helps this stand out more due to the huge atmosphere difference, you went from light hearted and fierce fun to simple anger and destruction, goes from one end of the scale to the other.
Dylan pulling out more topics of discussion faster than you can say "Where's the part 2 of the timeline?" This was hands down the best duel of ARC-V. It was great.
I'm just wondering if he'll beat Spellcommander91 to the punch. Considering how much his channel exploded from his first Arc-V video, and he's finally being semi-regular with videos now, I worry that Dylan's video will get buried should Spellcommander91 make the topic first.
This duel is one of my favorites in the whole series. It was even more enchanced by the fact that when I watched this duel for the first time Sora and Shun were my favorite characters and I had no idea who was gonna take the win with both characters constantly one upping each other
This duel. This goddamn duel. For sure one of my 3 favoute duels in all of the YGO shows, possibly the favourite. The action, the music, the context... Goddamn.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that exactly the duel covered in the video is the most intense a duel has ever been in the yugioh franchise. So much revealed, so much action. I hadn't been hyped like that since Yami Marik vs Joey in Battle City.
Shay was a bad ass character all around also, he wasnt afraid to throw hands against anyone who got in his way, but i mean war will do that to you also, either adapt or die. I also love the legacy call backs as well as the whole Fusion Vs Xyz vs Synchro vs Pendulum thing as well as seeing everyones favorite King, Jack Atlas
props to the thumbnail editor putting sora on left & shun on right i assume was an intentional choice this ep was what got me to watch ygo again, i saw screenshots of sora from this ep years ago on tumblr so i marathon arc v until i got to this ep. definitely worth it i think
Shun is one of the greatest duelists and warriors ive ever seen in Yugioh. My second favorite character in Arc v right behind Reiji. When shun was first introduced I sided with him because he was dedicated in his mission. Even tho at the time I didnt what it was. I didn't trust sora. He acted to innocent all the time even tho he was a kid. I felt shun was doing all of the carding for a reason and not just doing it for the sake of portraying someone who needs to go down, and when sora confirmed my suspicions about him being a low key bad guy who destroyed his home it felt all too good when he was defeated. Excellent video.
Same. I started to watch ARC-V in 2018 and pretty much knew the whole story already, but I was surprised how hard his character hit me and he instantly became my favorite (Serena took that place in the beginning of the synchro arc) and how much I adored him. In fact he's one of the few characters in ARC-V who grew on me in any way and today he's my 5th favorite character in all of Yu-Gi-Oh!
Very good video! I remember this episode renewing the interest my friends and I had in Arc-V after a rather lackluster Yuya Duel. Really seemed like this show was going to be something special. The lost potential of Arc-V is what hurts so much. Would love to see you do more breakdowns of duels like this! Some faves of mine would be IV VS Nasch or Yugi VS Raphael.
Man yugioh arc v was full of many unexpected and incredible things for me this is the most show that got characters from different series . Like : kite , crow , jack and aster Phoenix.
Honestly, yeah. This duel has a stake in best duel of the franchise because of how thematic, cinematic and pivotal the duel was to the entire series. Good point on the Frightfurs but here's an addition. For the majority of his air time before this, Sora only used Frightfur Bear; a creepy monster but still looks like a goofy bear. However, then we get to Leo and Sheep which are either looking far from their original form (Leo) or so twisted that its giving you Hellraiser vibes (sheep) before culminating in this gigantic monstrosity which looks more like a three headed robotic Leatherface than a Frightfur. I do like how Sora's arrogance towards Shun also goes from "He thinks he can win" to "He can't lose to someone who he sees as his inferior which he helped subjugate and slaughter for fun to the point that they're Yugioh's equivalent to fascism". Frankly, because this duel was so good, it made Leo's woobification even worse.
I swear i love raidraptors and kurosaki in both sub and dub. They perfectly catch his emotions and rage and Kurosaki using his raidraptors to fly around while dodging all of sora's attacks. Sora turning from a loveable character into a complete psycho who only wants to destroy is perfect and his deck is symbolic of that. The fluffals is his cutesy side where he is sweet and the edge imps is his michivious side given that imps are mischivious creatures, And the frightfur are these sides combined into one and show his true nature, that of a sadistic soldier that loves war and fights. Kurosaki explaining his backstory is also really good and it left nothing out that would show why he was so furious. All in all this is my 3rd favorite arc v duel
Have to agree. I really loved this duel. Among other duels of course. But one of the ones that I rewatched. Others were: 1)Twins+Jack vs Aporia 2)YGO DM Graduation duel 3)Yusei vs Bruno
Great video! I don't know if it would be worth a whole discussion, but the duel in episode 27 of Vrains between Brave Max and the Knight of Hanoi was (in my opinion as a former competitive player) a brilliant commentary on the state of the yugioh game. Both players brick (open a bad hand), try to psych their opponent out with tough talk, and the Knight of Hanoi only loses because he invests all his resources just to end on a good board turn 1. It's not just a funny duel, but also a really interesting critique on how absurd the ygo metagame can get ^^
Surprised you didn't mention the second layer of nostalgia going on in this duel. This whole thing was basically GX vs. ZEXAL from start to finish. Sora is dueling just like Judai did, summoning a Fusion, losing it, and then bringing out another, and another, always trying to adapt to the situation at hand with a new creature. At the end, he even pulls out a Miracle Fusion-esque card, making use of everything he used before to summon his final ace. Shun, on the other hand, is playing exactly like the ZEXAL duelists did. ZEXAL duels consisted mostly of a character summoning their ace monster, and then just concentrating their efforts on keeping them on the field, or bringing them back when they were destroyed. They don't just summon something else, that monster is your soul, and you're going to fight with it. By the end, he's evolving his Rise Falcon, always keeping a single ace of the field, and fighting just with that, a one man resistance against the army of fusions Sora is using. This duel was incredible in just every possible way.
You know the duel is good when even the dub manages to capture most of what made it great in the sub. Matt Shipman put his all in that performance for Shun. Its one of the few duels i can watch both sub and dub over and over again. 100000/10 i love this duel to bits and pieces
I always dig these conversations thanks Dylan.... and yes this is by far one of the best duels of all time across all series it had so much suspense and so much plot armor too lol
Arc V’s first arc was so good. It really build up the lore & mystery of the multiple dimensions. I was soo invested by this duel, the introduction of Dennis & yuya vs reiji. Only until halfway into the second season did my hype start to die down (that second arc felt so long). Man I love the start of arc v.
Yugituber Noajenk really made me appreciate these sort of analysis of the duels that took place over the yugioh franchise so seeing a video like this from you is an awesome treat
i remember when this duel aired and we all lost our collective minds. it was such a treat n really sets up the dimensional war so well, especially since before this we only had a vague inclining that something was wrong oh arcv seasons 1 & 2 my beloved ...
Shun was my favorite character in all of Arc V. One of my favorites ever and after watching this duel for the first time(around when season 3 of vrains was airing) I built a Raidraptor deck and still use it to this day
When I saw Sora starting to get ticked off, I just thought he had a short temper, but then they revealed that Sora is actually from academia and everything just clicked
This duel really made me love Arc-V at the time. I love it even today even though they did messed it up. It shame that Shun’s VA, Yuto’s and Yugo’s VA quit they had so much potential.
Another thing, this duel simulates Gx and Zexal very well, where one person sit on one monster the entire duel, basically their wincon, and another guy who uses many monsters according to situation
Playmaker vs Ai was a great duel too. The feeilings it created to the viewer's heart were very intense. I really like your videos, keep up this great work!
Having a rematch so soon after and then not even showing it was such a huge mistake. They probably planned on redeeming Sora pretty early on, and wanted to get a rematch in before that happened, but I say they should have waited and had a rematch much, much later in the series, post-Sora redemption arc. One we'd preferably get to see the entirety of.
what made the duel so special for me is that field looks like a real battlefield and gives a peak into the horrors of piece's of paper sora is the one hunting while shun is the one being hunted but shun managed to turn his weakness into advantage what i also abousletely love from this duel is that this makes the possibility of the academia so much scary training duel warriors wich have the technology to level citys with pieces of paper is bone chilling considering the show up to this point was entairment duelling and whats cool is that it carries over and had hard effects they dont just leave this behind next episode and ask if he is alright yuya confronts sora and defends sora even if he is in wrong and these events lead to yuto's death by hugo cause yuya is too soft for this and wasn't ready for this this continue's into the battle royal of the championship where yuya isn't being fully serious he is trying to give a smile to sora by making him having fun yuya could've abousletely destroyed sora but he didn't and sora was deffintely being convinced but left after the action duel ended
Even though this duel is excellent one of my most memorable ones from Arc-V but my favorite by far is the 2nd duel between Declan/Reiji vs Yuya. Not only because Reiji won but also he is my favorite character not only for Arc-V but whole Yu-Gi-Oh and his deck is my favorite and I still use it time to time and the second deck I own. The way he simultaneously summoned his Ceaser, Alexander and finally Genghis is something I always like to to do but so far has managed once. Not to mention seeing his Oblivion King Ceaser Ragnarok and Dow Dawn Kali Yuga those monsters were epic as well and Yuya for his part summon both of his Odd eyes fusion dragon Rune eyes and I am blanking on the other one. But they almost took down Reiji but he used his dark contract card to survive. Yuya then also XYZ summoned Dark rebellion dragon and then Odd eyes rebellion dragon and I thought it was over for Reiji but he pulled through using his Dark Contract trap card by negating and resetting it Yuya's trap card which first negated Reiji's all card effects. Even the premise of battle was so well done. Reiji wanted to recruit Yuya and held this tournament to weed out strong from weak. But Yuya blinded by the fact of losing friends who got carded by Duel Academy duelists and his selfish love for Yuju doesn't let him see what's at stake. So Reiji played on it didn't tell him Yuju wasn't carded or kidnapped and she has willingly left with Yuya's synchro counterpart. All the while letting Selina and Shun tell each other their stories helping all who were present understand the dire situation and what Harland City been through. So that's why it's my favorite duel of all time.

Yugioh zexal had it but not alot. Ngl i forgot about it until then
@@seqka711 phantom synchro & harmonious synchro/fusion.
I watched Zexal after Arcv and even then only the first season, so I sadly cannot really connect to it.
I was always weird out at first because I was expecting to hear "chaos xyz change" and it was just "xyz change"
Absolutely everything. Sora turning out to be part of army that consists of hedonistic serial killers really took me by surprise all those years ago. He seemed sketchy, but I never expected that bombshell.
You mean about Sora.. or the bombshells Blaze and Revolution Falcon threw at him?
I agery definitely one of my favorite dules
I don’t think Sora was a soldier, I think they mentioned him being a spy? If so then he’s really good at his job
I really would like to be able to watch this duel for the first time again
Same, but honestly rewatching it is still an absolute blast
You can watch that episode on UA-cam
It's duels like this that make the ending of Arc-V sting that much more. This was one of the most hype duels in the entirety of Yugioh for me, getting back into the series after dropping Zexal, I was beyond excited to hear about Academia, about how dark and twisted this seemingly cute and innocent card game anime was becoming, just everything about this duel was fantastic and I really hope yugioh can recreate this magic again one day.
Even if Sevens miraculously proves to not simply be good, but the BEST, it still won't capture this kind of material.
@@christopherb501 get a better sound duel, characters, and tone then I will consider it to have a chance at being the best.
@@christopherb501 I don't even think the series can ever get back to Arcv season1-levels of good. True greatness only shows up once, and the concept cannot be recycled without it feeling cheap.
@@lpfan4491 that’s for the best
It never had any greatness. The first season of Arc-V was always a slog to get through
@@pn2294 Well, that's you.
Agreed! One of the best duels ever for me
I think that the true masterpiece was the duel between shay & dennis. That satellite cannon falcon summon was majestic. I love cruel duel like that
I honestly loved how shun put dennis in his place considering what dennis had done. Kidnapping shuns sister ruri, giving academia the green light to turn a happy city into a living hell, and even playing on ruri's emotions at that time made me scream and yell and just root for shun to give that bastard a good butt kicking that he rightfully deserved!
honestly loved that duel. Just watched it yesterday. It's my favorite duel in the whole series
It did hurt him
@@thegreatjackson6762 But it didn’t hurt him too much. That’s what I mean
@@rainbowdragon168 it caused a concussion, that's why he was hospitalized

Sora/Shay was an incredible duel and I loved how pissed Shay was when the Action Field was revealed
The action was brutal and I love how the twist of Sora being allied with Academia was revealed
Shay is an amazing character and so is Sora, but I wish his defection back to the good side was done better 😃
I feel you in that last part about his return as a good guy
Definitely the best duel in Arc V. The most memorable by far.
Whereas in the west we read left to right and place characters there
I'm surprised you didn't mention INSANE sequence where Shun and his Rise Falcon dodge the attacks of Frightfur Leo through buildings!
That scene was bloody damn cool.
He did
13:09
But he did though...
Yeah Sora was a pretty well written character
It’s crazy these 2 ended up as team mates
@@YugiohEverything but imagine if Zuzu loses his father and decides to be adopted by Shay or Sora and I want to see those 2 duel again for the fate of getting a new sibling
The dark tone
Sora’s five nights at Freddys monsters
Sora going Psycho
Hearthland action camp
Shun not using pendulums
rank up Magic’s been introduced
Also the music was hype
Me, annoyed that Shun didn't use Pendulum, because that's at least 2 other pieces of support
(I mean, RRs have a lot of support, but a lot of it is garbage, and who knows? Maybe those would make the deck less Normal Summon reliant)
@@pidgeyottot3527 Shun used Pendulum Summoning once, but only with cards that had nothing to do with Raidraptors, so they aren't part of the support.
So I'd say they're pretty good.
man my favorite feud, I would of loved a finale part 3 after the 1 win and 1 loss.
Same!! I wish they had an end game rematch. Maybe Sora stays "evil" for a bit longer and Shun has to duel him in front of Ruri's tower?
9:10 Your face when you topdeck Super Polymerization.
Shun has pretty much the best duels of the entire series.
My favorite duel is Shun vs LDS trio, but more because It's the best written "team duel" of the entire franchise.
The synergy between their plays and the way the effortlessly supported each other with different decks and without needing to use useless cards that have nothing to do with their playstyle was * chef's kiss *
Shun debut in that duel was super memorable with the huge ass attack stat achieved so early in the Show with that awesome attack animation of Rise Falcon!
Arc-V's soundtrack was done by one the key composers for the Code Geass soundtrack and it really shows.
Hell yes
Yugioh always had great scores but I was shook by how good arc v was when I first watched.
I’m gonna be honest sora was my favorite character of this arc he’s so cool with his frightfurs and I was kinda happy when he beat shun in their second duel
filthy Fusion user
Wish they have a third match and I want Shay to win again
He was my favorite too!
I play fluffals because of him
Arc-V was super hype and had so many incredibly awesome moments with a journey that I looked forward to continue watching...
... then there was that ending.
This was such an awesome duel and my second favorite in all of Yugioh. I hated how the rematch got basically skipped over.
Shun was holding back
This legit is in my top 10 duels in the entire Yu-Gi-Oh series.
Currently it's my top 1 duel for me
“We will always take back our comrades”
So Shun is a Russian?
No because he would have lost 😂
A missed opportunity was having Shun and Sora have their positions swapped partway through the duel in order to hammer home the Good vs. Evil angle.
If you rewatch there is a pan shot that has shun go from the left to right and shows Sora.
The fights where the protagonists brutally scores a win without remorse that sends you chills. I thrive for those.
Yuyas best character build was his loss to Sergey. Chained and beaten by Barrett but still holds his ground to defend what he cherished.
Yuya vs Yuri was the most intense duel in arc v. It really gave off a final duel vibe.
The way Shun's and Sora's deck functioned was a reflection of their story:
Rise Falcon dying, followed by the activation of Rank-Up-Magic Raptor's Force that summoned Blaze Falcon, symbolizing how no matter how many comrades fall, another will rise in his place, the resistance cannot be taken down.
Action field interaction was at its peak as well. They should have kept using em in the show.
@@thegreatjackson6762 Oh yeah! I can agree with that for sure! Kinda wish they used the ruling in the manga of one action card per turn.
I feel that duel had to happen to make the contrast with this duel stick out so much
I think the reason is that it is Sawatari.
Dylan pulling out more topics of discussion faster than you can say "Where's the part 2 of the timeline?"
This was hands down the best duel of ARC-V. It was great.
I'm just wondering if he'll beat Spellcommander91 to the punch. Considering how much his channel exploded from his first Arc-V video, and he's finally being semi-regular with videos now, I worry that Dylan's video will get buried should Spellcommander91 make the topic first.
A Romin stan. Noice
That thumbnail is 😎.
The person who makes my thumbnails for me just spits fire with these
Shay was a bad ass character all around also, he wasnt afraid to throw hands against anyone who got in his way, but i mean war will do that to you also, either adapt or die. I also love the legacy call backs as well as the whole Fusion Vs Xyz vs Synchro vs Pendulum thing as well as seeing everyones favorite King, Jack Atlas
props to the thumbnail editor putting sora on left & shun on right i assume was an intentional choice
this ep was what got me to watch ygo again, i saw screenshots of sora from this ep years ago on tumblr so i marathon arc v until i got to this ep. definitely worth it i think
Glad you did a video on this duel, it was easily one of the best duels in Arc-V
The best was the falcons attacks also. Seeing the fking building behind him falling while he devioulsy smiles is one of the most Badass scene ever
The moment heartland city was used I knew something big was going to happen.
I 100% agree with you on EVERYTHING that you said. Now this was an action duel.
Others were:
1)Twins+Jack vs Aporia
2)YGO DM Graduation duel
3)Yusei vs Bruno
Great video! I don't know if it would be worth a whole discussion, but the duel in episode 27 of Vrains between Brave Max and the Knight of Hanoi was (in my opinion as a former competitive player) a brilliant commentary on the state of the yugioh game. Both players brick (open a bad hand), try to psych their opponent out with tough talk, and the Knight of Hanoi only loses because he invests all his resources just to end on a good board turn 1. It's not just a funny duel, but also a really interesting critique on how absurd the ygo metagame can get ^^
man this duel really was amazing, definitely one of my favorites, even across all the shows
Surprised you didn't mention the second layer of nostalgia going on in this duel.
I read a chapter revolving around this duel in a fanfic. It’s just as impactful imo
It was a great plot twist i loved it
I always dig these conversations thanks Dylan.... and yes this is by far one of the best duels of all time across all series it had so much suspense and so much plot armor too lol
What I love about this duel is it hits home what action duels will end up being
Arc V’s first arc was so good. It really build up the lore & mystery of the multiple dimensions. I was soo invested by this duel, the introduction of Dennis & yuya vs reiji. Only until halfway into the second season did my hype start to die down (that second arc felt so long).

This duel was a masterpiece
10:38 Quite ironic considering what happened to Shun in the end of Arc-V
This duel really made me love Arc-V at the time.
I love it even today even though they did messed it up.
It shame that Shun’s VA, Yuto’s and Yugo’s VA quit they had so much potential.
My 1st favourite duel ever tied with shun vs dennis
I loved how Kurosaki won that duel, he is always my favorite character.
I wish we saw the entirety of the rematch.
Having a rematch so soon after and then not even showing it was such a huge mistake. They probably planned on redeeming Sora pretty early on, and wanted to get a rematch in before that happened, but I say they should have waited and had a rematch much, much later in the series, post-Sora redemption arc. One we'd preferably get to see the entirety of.
ah yes, the duel that made us question sora's whole character...
what made the duel so special for me is that field looks like a real battlefield and gives a peak into the horrors of piece's of paper sora is the one hunting while shun is the one being hunted but shun managed to turn his weakness into advantage
what i also abousletely love from this duel is that this makes the possibility of the academia so much scary training duel warriors wich have the technology to level citys with pieces of paper is bone chilling considering the show up to this point was entairment duelling
and whats cool is that it carries over and had hard effects they dont just leave this behind next episode and ask if he is alright yuya confronts sora and defends sora even if he is in wrong and these events lead to yuto's death by hugo cause yuya is too soft for this and wasn't ready for this
this continue's into the battle royal of the championship where yuya isn't being fully serious he is trying to give a smile to sora by making him having fun yuya could've abousletely destroyed sora but he didn't and sora was deffintely being convinced but left after the action duel ended
Arc V was the first yugioh season I watched, and this duel, this goddamn duel got me hooked up for the entirety of it
This duel was amazing is still one of my favorites from Yu-Gi-Oh! That OST gave me CHILLS
One of the few great duels that also translates perfectly to the dub

second best duel in the whole show, right behind the Friendship Cup duel Shun had against Dennis.
what about the duel vs Zarc?
Reiji is the best end of discussion
