What a great video. We don't often get to see parts of Liverpool from this perspective. Thank you 👍.

Nice work Paul; what an amazing space this is, surely it can’t be left in this condition it’s absolutely a prime location for development. I’m sure if it was in Manchester it would have been developed by now! Thanks again Paul for bringing it to light 👌

The Liverpool Waters development is still in its infancy.
The complete redevelopment of the central dock area will be completed sometime in the 2050s.
It's a 30 year project mate, I won't be around when it is finished, but I bet it will look magnificent.
There will be large residential areas, and also commercial, and entertainment venues.
      The scale is unimaginable.

When you think of the activity that once went on all around our Docks and the employment they provided. I grew up in the south end and as a youngster I can still remember the MD@HC Loco's going along what was left of the Dock Railway.

A local lad, from 1969 to 1975 I was one of H.M. Immigration Officers stationed in Liverpool. In the early days, the Liverpool Journal of Commerce daily had 2 or more pages of ship arrivals from foreign ports and we had to visit most of them. I think I have visited ships in every dock on both sides of the river from Seaforth Dock to Garston and from Bidston Dock to Runcorn. Then we had monthly (or more) arrivals of the Empress of Canada, the Niger Line boats from Lagos and the Geest boats from the Canaries bringing hundreds of passengers. It was insanely busy.
Then two things changed Liverpool and the world forever... the invention of the standardised shipping container and the advent of cheap air travel, manifested in Liverpool by bucket and spade flights in superannuated Lockheed Constellations from the new 'international terminal' (a hastily converted old hangar) at Speke.

@@nemesislooms6315 My uncle sailed on the Empress Boats, all my Uncles and my Father went away to sea. One uncle served in The Royal Navy and the rest in the Merch. My Father took part in The North Atlantic Convoys going to Murmansk. The others were all Liverpool Dockers when they finally came ashore and my Dad went labouring on Building sites. So much maritime history and seafaring service in this city my friend. So sad the way it went.

Hello Paul, An excellent video. I remember when they were in use. The Belfast Ferry used to sail from Princess Dock and you could see the Ferry when at the Pier Head. There are 2 docks side by side in your video, where the walkway between these two docks are flooded. I wonder how could this happen, as the dock gates to the rest of the system are open, so the water would all be at the same level. Thank you.

Now that we thankfully do not have the albatross that was the WHS, I think Peel should revisit their plans for the area and substantially up the quality, heights and massing of the proposed new buildings to go on there.

The infrastructure, roads utilities etc. has been given final approval. This work starts in April this year. There is a number of projects about to start or at least in the final stages… New Cruise Terminal, 2 luxury hotels, the 2/3 tall buildings on King Edward triangle, the new hotel opposite BMD and a number of others projects. I’m hoping that this will all be covered by our lovely droners 😂

Waterloo Dock will soon open upto the public for pretty much the first time in living memory. With BMD set to open, Central Docks should start to slowly be developed, allowing people to walk all the the way from Otterspool Prom to Bramely Moore Dock for the first time ever.

nice vid Paul - shows how much potential there is - however don't hold your breath as Peel have done square root of sweet FA for over a decade to move things forward unless its someone else's money - even the park is being funded by the gov. Oh they do put out a new CGI every now and again usually watered down from the last version . Sorry to be so negative about this - I hope to be proven wrong .

Geography! Liverpool is the 4th biggest port in England outside of the 3 major ones around London. They are all easily accessible to ships coming from Europe, Africa & Asia. Liverpool is harder for them to get to and costs more for them to come up here so it doesn't make sense. Unless they are coming from America then that's quicker for them to offload in Liverpool compared to down south.

    • @veryhighguy
