Easily, Adventure. It's content is so beautiful. I'm on the final world of Dream Land 3 on Switch Online right now. I've played those, Dream Land, and Planet Robobot. Dream Land 2 is is in my backlog.
My first Kirby game was Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. I played it back when I was around 5 and the games structure often led me to getting lost and ending up back where I started, but I really never got tired of doing so. I was too enamored with the gameplay and visuals that just playing the game was fun. Ever since then, I've been a huge fan.

I disagree. The level design may be nice, but the future installments had better level design and actually controlled well - Adventure not only has some sort of an input lag, but the flying is also completley different and much less fun to use. The abilities are one-move only and it makes them become boring and less use-able. Plus, the original decided to sacrifice the framerate and the gameplay as a whole for nice graphics - something a game should never do. It's technically marvelous, but it's not fun to play when you get low as hell framerate just because the developers decided to say "oh look at this cool background that is impressive-looking!". Super Star and it's successors are much better games, in my opinion.
@@marx4538 I'll give you the flying and the framerate (things that the remake has fixed obviously) but I found it was so much fun and refreshing going back to a simpler Kirby game because even with one move abilities (I didn't dislike them before but I also greatly prefer the Super Star method, but now I have an appreciation for Adventure's abilities), the simplistic but thoughtful level design complements the abilities. A Kirby game that makes me change abilities often to complement level design (not only for secrets) is a great Kirby game in my opinion.

Funny how your Kirby history is the opposite of mine. I started with Kirby's Adventure on the NES, ended up giving my NES away to a nephew after I got the SNES, so I couldn't play it anymore. However, I still had my Game Boy, so when I wanted to play Kirby, Kirby's Dreamland was my only option. you know what pisses me off, people not talking enough about this game, you cant believe how happy I am that you of all people is taking a look at this game
For some reason, it really seems like they were really stretching and searching for things to talk about in this video, particularly things that don't involve NiDL directly. A really sizable chunk of the video was about focusing on how Kirby isn't as popular as he could be (even though he's the absolute most supported first/second party Nintendo character/series behind Mario and Pokemon, and the majority of his games and merch sell like golden hot cakes) or that he *really, r e a l l y* wishes that NiDL was the first Kirby game, or that it just blows the original out of the water. Well, yeah, it's a game that came out 9 years later and was made on more powerful hardware and made by a more competent team.

I remember coming home from school and a Gameboy advance with Kirby nightmare in dreamland was just laying on my bed. I asked my dad who’s was it and he just said who do you think lol
Mine was in 1999 i was 8 did extra choirs all summer to earn money. By the end of the summer i saved up enough to get the Gameboy color with Pokemon red. Great memory.
This is hands down my favorite Kirby game off all time Jirard! I just adore the gameplay, the story, and more importantly, the kickass music! Thank you SO much for reviewing this game!!!
Kirby's Adventure was my first true video game. It was my first exposure to the wonders of controlling a character on a television screen with a controller, and that alone blew my childhood mind. The music is absolutely timeless, the gameplay is super fun, and just about everything about the game was super memorable to me. And naturally, I absolutely love the remake even more. (especially since Meta Knight is my favorite Nintendo character) Whether I'm playing the original NES version or the GBA remake, Kirby's Adventure/Nightmare in Dream Land will always be a game I hold near and dear to my heart. :)
It’s awesome to see someone who loves both! It seems most tend to much prefer one over the other. I played Nightmare in Dreamland first, not realizing it was a remake. Upon discovering Kirby’s Adventure, I played it using an emulator. I enjoyed both immensely!
Kirby's Adventure was my first true Video game too, Everything about it was just Perfect for me, the Graphics, Gameplay, Music, Atomsphere and Everything, I couldn't even stop playing it soon as i touched it once, Heck even the atomsphere itself tells you that you're making progress and the ending man! that ending tho!
Nightmare in Dream Land was not only my first Kirby game, but my first game ever!!! My husband never really understood why I love Kirby so much but this video opened his eyes as to why I'm obsessed!!! Thank you for giving this game the love it deserves!!!!!
As a kid I never knew about Kirby until I got Nightmare in Dreamland in like… 2003. It had a lot of unique challenges it offers me from start to finish, which makes it a step up over the 1993 Kirby game. I didn’t play all the Kirby games after this, but this game made me a Kirby fan ever since. He may have been nerfed in the newer Smash games, but his copy abilities are so badass! And yeah, who misses Cook Kirby as Kirby’s final smash in Brawl? Like placing every Smash fighter in the cooking pot was the most hilarious thing Kirby has ever done!
@@jonathanblaha2771 In my opinion, the NES version is a mess, especially compared to Super Star, and the GBA version is just okay. Thanks for expressing your opinion as an opinion and not as a fact.
So, you're comparing a gameboy advance game's graphics with one for the gameboy. Yeah, that's not remotely fair. And why is Jirard talking like no one plays Kirby? Its one of Nintendo's bigger properties and its most consistently good. Also, every main kirby game has a difficult extra mode, its not unique to nightmare in dreamland.
Thacobell it would be like if I said “what if Mario galaxy was the first Mario game instead of the original nes one, look how primitive the original is compared to what it could of been”. Yeah I agree it’s not a good comparison to make for a hypothetical “what if” scenario that doesn’t make sense.
Not only is it unfair but i dont see how t would change anything. I didnt think the early games made kirby look bad and missing out on 6 of the first kirby games some of which ive commonly heard as peoples favorites and are a big part in the lore so im pretty sure the series be much worse off.
@Kadeeen But its bad info. Nightmare in Dreamland is a pretty standard Kirby game. Everything Jirard is praising about it, is present in almost every other Kirby game, many of which have MORE features. And there's zero reason to compare it to a gameboy game. The technology was different and if this game came out back then, it'd look a lot mroe like Kirby's Dreamland. Its a disengenuous comparison.
Yeah, the premises of this video are strange. By the time Nightmare in Dreamland released, Dreamland 2, Superstar, Dreamland 3, and Crystal Shards had been out. Heck, Nightmare in Dreamland came to be _because_ there was an established fanbase for the series. (Not to mention the anime was airing around that time!)
I loved Amazing Mirror's open world design. just wished they did more with it, like how you couldn't reach the final world until you found one of the sorta hidden warp stars.
As someone who had Kirby's Adventure as one of my first games, your "What if this was the first Kirby?" thoughts are, as a matter of fact, completely what happened. There is no "if" about it. That game was more or less one of the first Kirby games, those songs are a slightly remastered version of the originals, and it really did take off as much as you think it "would have."
My fiance gave me his copy back in high school because he actually found his original copy and I played the hell out of it. I still play it frequently. Plus, years later, this game was the very first video game my little nephew beat, and it kinda made me proud :D
This was the first handheld video game I ever played when I was 4 so I got very excited when I saw the was the video. After watching, I can't agree with you more Jirard, those experiences you were describing were my experiences with the game. Great video and great game.
He's the man of many, many faces. Mainly in pink. But he's gone to places, every enemy he meets. He swallows them whole. Then he takes away from their powers. KIRBY!! Nightmare in Dreamland. KIRBY!! Nightmare in Dreamland. He's a man of many faces and he takes away all their powers.
Kirby’s colors were never changed Miyamoto was being a b*tch and wanted Kirby to be yellow but Sakurai wanted it pink Sakurai got the Japanese artists to draw Kirby pink on the Japanese cover despite Miyamoto’s arguments but the American artists could decide so they said f*ck it Kirby’s white in the game so he’s gonna be white on the box art
I think it’s pretty cool how you talk about if this was the first Kirby game, Kirby would be considered a gaming icon, because, this was my first Kirby game (slash first video game overall). Kirby is a gaming icon to me. I feel he’s under appreciated and even though his game are easy, the creativity behind the games push the games over the top for me. Kirby is my favorite game character, and it’s mostly due to this game.
What's funny is that Nightmare in Dreamland *was* my first Kirby game. I didn't ever own any of them, so when I found out that there was one for GBA, I got it as a ROM on my phone's emulator and constantly played it on the go, and now, I'm beyond invested in the franchise! ^^
This was my first Kirby game that I played and I love it. I am so happy that you finally got around to completing it as I was never able to as a child. Thank you and I can't wait for more content. I wish that I found this channel earlier in my UA-cam experience. However, I know of you now. I will be watching.
Never played Nightmare in Dreamland, but the original Kirby's Adventure is still my favorite Kirby game to this day. The soundtrack is easily one of my favorite NES soundtracks. I also like the variety of weapons and visuals.
Nightmare in dreamland was my first Kirby game, I’m pretty sure I got it on my 6th birthday, and I’ll never forget it cause it was one of the first games I ever beat. It’s still my favorite Kirby game of all time
Aw yeah, the first Kirby game I ever owned. I remember playing Adventure on a school's emulator. Except the key the computer used for the right D-pad input only worked like 30% of the time, so despite having a LOT of NES games, Kirby's Adventure was the only one people could play at all since Kirby could fly and abilities like Fireball or Wheel let you move forwards automatically. Still, when I saw those ads for Nightmare in Dream Land, I was like "That's it! It's the same game from school, the level design is totally identical, but it looks better and the d-pad will actually work! I HAVE to get it!" Thus, I got a GBA, and finally had access to what has become my favorite videogame series ever. When you played that Dedede final boss theme, man, my heart did a thing. Just absolutely ANNIHILATED with nostalgia.
one of my favorite games of all time glad you finally covered it not sure how anyone could not love Kirby I love my hard games as much as anyone but that doesn't mean you have to hate on easy games like Kirby but whatever great episode looking forward to the next
Anyone else want to him do the Infamous series? That'd be sick just seeing his play style change from Good Karma to Evil Karma. As always great video and has inspired me all over again to get back into platinuming games again
this game was the very first kirby game i played and i loved it but i didnt really know their was a 100% completion bonus ill see about giving it another play through now
The Completionist could indeed review the original Kirby's Adventure! If he revisited it, he'd likely enjoy it a lot more, even if it's not up to the ranks of its remake (a very well-deserved one). It is a lot better than he made it look, but at least he has a reason to find Kirby's Adventure to be one of the lesser games of an otherwise first-rate (in a "don't judge-a-book-by-its-cover" way) franchise. It is because he found it to be dated with how (not extremely) little it had to offer, so even great works of fiction can warrant a remake to enhance what made them strong! Kirby of the Stars is no exception.
This game was actually the first videogame I've ever played, I had a SNES, but I was way too little to like actually play it,. But when my dad bought me a Gameboy advance with this game, it made me love videogames. With 7-8 years of age, I got to 100% complete it. People complain that Kirby is too easy and too cute, but man if it wasn't for a game like this I actually believe I would be a much different person than I am today.
It’s funny. Nightmare in Dream Land was the very first Kirby game I played as a kid and my experience was just like Jirard theorizes. I loved Kirby and played this game over and over again because of how awesome a game this was. I never understood people who thought Kirby was dumb because this game was so awesome to play!
8:12 "There are 7 Worlds and 6 stages in each of these worlds." Umm are you sure? There's 4 in Vegetable Valley, 5 in Ice Cream Island, and then 6 in the rest. And you forgot Fountain of Dreams is the 8th World. Forgetful much??? This is a good start for Kirby, but Amazing Mirror surpassed it in the way of "promoting completion."
This was my very first kirby game and I loved it! The grind rail minigame was always my favorite and I don't think I ever got to play as meta knight because I was bad at games so Kirby's hard mode was very hard for me. I was also terrified of the final boss so that might've had something to do with it

This was my introduction to Kirby and one of the first video games I got really into. It’s a delight to see it featured.
"Meta Knight is not cute." Clown behavior.
This was the first handheld video game I ever played when I was 4 so I got very excited when I saw the was the video. After watching, I can't agree with you more Jirard, those experiences you were describing were my experiences with the game. Great video and great game.
Me too dude. It was this and Pokemon Ruby. I was 6.
Meta Knight is definitely cute, he's just also cool 😜
This was the first game I ever completed and it introduced me to Kirby because I didnt have any of the earlier titles
The Kirby theme is now stuck in my head.
Thanks Jirard.
@@EWOODJ I was mostly quoting the song that was used in that commercial for this game.
rated e for everyone
Meta Knight isn't cute? Try telling that to Lucina!
Paul Dunbar a fellow Lucina fan of culture
This was my fist game I have ever completed it is still one of my fondest memories. Love that you compleated it!
I still have this game. It’s so fun to go back to every once in a while. Definitely the best Kirby game I’ve played.
4:42 Um... Jirard? Please Google "Kirby's Dreamland Japanese Box Art", cause you're not 100% on this one.
Oh dude, play Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, that one incorporated metroidvania elements and had all kinds of stuff to find.
Also Squeak Squad.
Wow this is an AWESOME remake! I love the Sprites and Colors!!
What's funny is that Nightmare in Dreamland *was* my first Kirby game. I didn't ever own any of them, so when I found out that there was one for GBA, I got it as a ROM on my phone's emulator and constantly played it on the go, and now, I'm beyond invested in the franchise! ^^
Same, it's such a fun and fast-paced game to play for a few minutes and get instant fun out of it :D
This was one of the first games I ever 100%ed and I did it 9 times, so awesome to see you do it too!
This was my first Kirby game that I played and I love it. I am so happy that you finally got around to completing it as I was never able to as a child. Thank you and I can't wait for more content. I wish that I found this channel earlier in my UA-cam experience. However, I know of you now. I will be watching.
Kirby my man in Dreamland. Beating up those bad guys taking away their powers!
Child me could not complete this game. You have inspired me to pick it back up! Thank you! Great vid as always.
It’s still my favorite Kirby game of all time
I remember being in the back of my parents van playing this on my Gameboy advanced SP... God seeing all that stuff again brings a tear to my eye
I love the commercial when i was middle school. "Beating up the bad guy and taking away their power"
Aww, I was really hoping it would still get a "Complete It". Either way a solid and fun game.
I am very happy this was my first Kirby game. Kirby became essentially my first Nintendo character that I saw, and I’ve been a fan since.
Anyone else want to him do the Infamous series? That'd be sick just seeing his play style change from Good Karma to Evil Karma. As always great video and has inspired me all over again to get back into platinuming games again
You really gonna compare GB Advance graphics to the original GB?
this game was the very first kirby game i played and i loved it but i didnt really know their was a 100% completion bonus ill see about giving it another play through now
The Completionist could indeed review the original Kirby's Adventure!
"Imagine if this was your first game as a kid."
Well, for me it was and I've been a fan ever since.
I still have that song from the commercial stuck in my head.
*electric guitar solo*
Kids: KIRBY!!
Hard rock singer: NIGHTMARE IN DREAM LAAAANDD!!!
Enjoyed this jirad. Thank you much. Always enjoy you and your team’s work!!!
It’s funny. Nightmare in Dream Land was the very first Kirby game I played as a kid and my experience was just like Jirard theorizes. I loved Kirby and played this game over and over again because of how awesome a game this was. I never understood people who thought Kirby was dumb because this game was so awesome to play!
I'd like to see jirard make a top ten list of worst and best completionist rewards
This game and Warioland 4 are tied for my all-time favorite GBA game
So many good memories!
Waking up to this in the morning is the best way to start a new day :D
Especially with a Kirby Game :D
This review is going to suck and blow in the best ways known to man.
Unfortunately it just kind of sucked and blew in a lot of negative ways.
Comments in a nutshell:
99.9% "Wow he keeps saying it should be the first game"
0.1% "Nice review I love that game!"
I love how you do Nintendo games I've never played. Because of you I played Wario shake it up, which I've loved. Thanks Completionist team.
If nobody in dreamland can dream,is it just.. “land”?
I was born in 89 and played Dreamland a lot as a little kid. I loved that game. Still do
8:12 "There are 7 Worlds and 6 stages in each of these worlds." Umm are you sure? There's 4 in Vegetable Valley, 5 in Ice Cream Island, and then 6 in the rest. And you forgot Fountain of Dreams is the 8th World. Forgetful much???
This is a good start for Kirby, but Amazing Mirror surpassed it in the way of "promoting completion."
This was my first and only Kirby game lol
I think you are going to love kirby super star ultra the challenge is real there. It's the gift that keeps on giving
This was my very first kirby game and I loved it! The grind rail minigame was always my favorite and I don't think I ever got to play as meta knight because I was bad at games so Kirby's hard mode was very hard for me. I was also terrified of the final boss so that might've had something to do with it
> Nightmare returns in Super Kirby Clash
> Jirard makes a Nightmare in Dreamland video soon after
Coincidence? I think not
Nightmare in dream land was my first kirby game ! And today, kirby is still my favorite video game character !
