Thanks for showing off SmartBone 2! It's really cool to see people cover what me and celnak have made, the NaN bug you mentioned has now been fixed in v0.1.1 and as for collisions they're more accurate if the bones radius > 0.
No problem, SmartBone is a great tech and deserves to be better known for what it is, especially when you guys are putting this much work and effort into it and are constantly releasing updates and fixes. I'll also be covering more of it whenever there's a release-ready version and major features 👍
not sure if they are having all bones simulated no matter what but if that's the case then they could have it so that unless the bone is interacted with or a bone next to it moves it would stay non-simulated and if it is still for a bit then it goes back to being static and that could make the games run much better and add some flair to the game as well
Optimization is a big part of what I do, I spent a few weeks just going over the code seeing what I could speed up. At the moment there is a "sleep" state for colliders but only if they aren't a descendant of workspace. Though with bone trees themselves they are throttled and also disabled off screen, I do believe there are some further optimizations I could make but all in due time, thanks for the suggestion.
Fact: Smart bone 2 uses purely math for collisions which is why you have to define parts you wanna collide with since the regular spatial queries are too slow for this kind of simulations.
Yeah, it's backwards compatible. Setup is basically the same, it's just the new settings and features. And I'll be making a full SmartBone 2 tutorial/guide whenever it's in a stable version too.
for some reason, colliders wont work i switched to 0.1.1, because the newer physics were drastically different from 1.0 and i was upgrading from 1.0 to 2.0 for collision i applied the 'SmartCollider' tag to an object and my smartbone object doesnt collide with it
I remember seeing a roblox game called anime champions and some of the characters in the game had animated hair and cloaks. I was wondering how they did It but now I know thanks to you
You can either have multiple meshes and make them each a SmartBone object, or have one object with multiple armatures and put each armature's root bone in the 'Roots' attribute, in this case you need to also weight paint it properly, so the armatures don't deform different parts that they're not supposed to.
i can already think of the absolutely worst that this amazing tool can allow people to make, i feel so bad for its devs for having to hear of any future creations people decide to abuse the tool for
anyone else not getting the debug ui showing up nor cloth responding to smart colliders, they move properly, just it can't interact with smart colliders?

If you are a beginner, skinning every model or accessory might take a lot more time, not to mention that you would have to find settings which would work best for suiting given items. And right now, SmartBone 2 is in an early state and - like Celnak wrote on the devforum post - it's not ready for production. So I would say it's probably not worth due to time consumption, since learning SmartBone itself will take time too, especially if they change something or add new features.

@@fitmotheyap This solely depends on a person and the project scale. If they think that they can make it, then sure. The game doesn't have to be a huge project that's going to be released, they can make it for themselves to just learn or maybe do it for passion or for fun - And even then it'll suit as a skeleton for an actual game they might make in the future.

You can maybe suggest that on the devforum, all I know is what's written in the documentation's 'optimization' tab.
Roblox physics already use something similar in the form of sleep states, if an object isn't interacted with it stops having physics simulation.
@@pantommy Does it also apply to custom simulation made through lua scripts? I feel like that would require writing your own logic for the system.

Turns out I had broken frustum culling in early development, the fps is now greatly increased when objects are out of view and will be fixed in v0.2.0

I never thought the day would come that we'd get bone physics in Roblox, and you know what *that* side of the community is going to use it for.
I know, I was thinking the same thing when I read the title..we are so doomed.

they're finally doing what gmod did in 2004

you should make a video on the dynamic mesh and dynamic image beta

you can actually run emulators at a very low framerate with dynamic image.@@Paul1Rb
