As noted in the community post, I made the decision to delay and coverage of Kursk (and the fighting in Donetsk and on other active fronts) at least until next week to give me time to clarify the situation and its significance as best I can. If I believe I can add some useful perspective or information to the discussion, that will go up next week. If not, I will delay the release until I can.
Until then, please enjoy this reminder that we are now in a universe where drones are used to attack drones so the drones can't spot targets (that might then be engaged by drones).
One correction though - at one point I refer to a Russian online commentator claiming that there were no wounded as a result of an airbase attack - the claim is in fact that there were no killed, the question of wounded is ambiguous.

Quick is also valuable, as long as it doesn't pretend to be more accurate than it actually is. But most of the news industry is already centered around being quick. It's not hard to find articles reporting what Russia's press releases say, reporting that Ukraine isn't commenting, pointing out that Russia's press releases seem to contain inconsistencies with each other and reality, and pointing out that there isn't enough information to say what's really going on on the ground.
It's the slower, more accurate reporting written when events aren't fresh that's harder to find.

41:14 for anyone wondering, that's the rear part of the ATACMS cluster missile. It doesn't explode when shot at a target. The missile spins (with tiny rockets) and then ejects about 900 softball sized sub-munitions, each with many tungsten fragments. The rear of the missile just hits the ground nearby.

Yup, that's why it's more-optimal to intercept during boost phase, the little longest window for stopping packages is the ballistic coast phase, but the greatest opportunity to actually achieve intercept is always on the terminal-flight phase.

@@stanislav_skorobogatov In the nature of fairness to your statement, one thing I am NOT convinced of is that while NATO/US intervention at this point would rapidly destroy Russia from the air/sea, I am not sure how much they could do on land. Not because they don't have good gear, but Russia is a BYWORD for stubborn and have demonstrated a willingness as a people (not just in leadership) to take casualties that would make most NATO countries blanch. They've taken more casualties in the last 2+ years fighting Ukraine than NATO/US has taken since about the mid-1960's in all their conflicts. I am not sure if that is admirable, but it is a fact.
NATO/US ground forces are expensively trained and relatively small (in proportion to their populations) precision instruments. I am not sure what would happen if they were committed to serious ground action along the Eastern Front in any depth/long time period. Historically, that hasn't ended well for the attacker (which sometimes includes Russia!). On the other hand, none of Russia's previous opponents had such total dominance via the air.

For air, I suspect if you’re cruising at a typical higher altitude you’ll have different threat challenges than if you’re in, say, an Apache flying ground ops. You don’t need to be a “near peer” adversary to leverage drones as an air asset now.
But, generally, I haven’t seen much on how the US DoD plans on dealing with the “drone problem”. Especially the low cost smaller ones. I’d bet one of the current US “near peers” could field millions of them.
