I think this is mostly Impart to his schooling era he grew up with.
Roger speaks about Quantum gravity in two different ways which seem like an oxymoron. But Roger you are correct both your ideas infact due occur!

We know Sir. Roger is such a brilliant man in our time, but he is mostly confused in using electronic devices to express his ideas 😃. He loves to express ideas with simple pencil & paper. He hate our modern technology, may be he is more than that, using brain in different dimension... 🤔
