Great topic choice guys! It is really comforting to watch this vid and be reminded that it's something everyone kinda goes through and that we're not alone. Went through a little quarter life crisis a few weeks ago and am rebounding out of it now. So thanks for the vid! Keep em coming!

  • @speechless05

I'm about the same age as these guys....so this was actually a really great lunch break to watch. Goes to show you aren't the only one thinking/worrying about these things...it would be great to see Wes, Phil, and Christine's view on this as well...to see if they've gotten past that 1/4 life crisis or not.
And I absolutely love that tidbit that Chris put in about the Chinese character for crisis. I think it really helps to just breath, step back and look at what you're doing.

I am certainly going through quarter life crisis right now. I am 22, senior in college, and just like what you guys have said, I'm dying trying to figure out what I want to do with life. I'm not sure if I really know myself so that doesn't help either. I was telling my friends the other day that I wish my fam is rich so I'd have all the time in the world to figure things out. But you guys have calmed me down, knowing that I'll probably never figure everything out. Maybe I'll end up some where nice that I have never considered before.

Being 20 yrs old and still far from graduating college I can relate to this. Most of my friends are graduating in a year or two, some have jobs, some are getting married or have started a family, and others have started their own business. All of these things I see my fellow peers do makes me feel like I am lacking in life, but I have recently accepted that. Sure I'll graduate a year or two after the rest of my peers, sure I do not have a job right now but there is always the possibility in the future. Everything that are to come, will come in due time. Nothing will happen until I put in the effort. WongFu you guys have always inspired me, growing up as an Asian-American I always wanted to be like you guys. I am currently pursuing a degree in graphic design, while also learning photography and film. Besides my art teachers and others in my life, you guys were also part of the encouragement. It is all thanks to you guys at WongFu! Hopefully one day I will have a chance to work with you!

I needed this video. I'm 24 years old and a recent college graduate that can't find work in my field so I'm taking manual labor jobs to fill the void at the time. It's tough and sometimes I wanna quit but I like the idea of "danger" and "opportunity" in the meaning of crisis. I like to describe my quarter-life crisis as extremely scary yet incredibly exciting all at the same time. Thanks Wong Fu B team!

  • @Yingk3
    @Yingk3 8 років тому +5

This is so relevant for me right now.
A huge quarter-life crisis after just graduating university, worrying about making the right start in your career. Literally went through all of these thoughts that you guys covered in the video. I've just started my first job this week, having decided to commit to finding a real passion in life rather than find a job just for the starting salary. And I'm really enjoying my new work so far! The quarter-life crisis is really just a motion of deciding what type of person you want to be and the lifestyle you want to have- it's pretty much step 1 of "who am I?". Ultimately, do what makes you happy!

This lunch break has seriously lowered my stress a little bit for me. I'm only in my 2nd year of college and I'm already stressing out since I lacked and procrastinated this whole school year; plus I'm also thinking about changing my major from accounting to IDEK so I hope to figure that out soon

    • @michellybelly9236
      @michellybelly9236 8 років тому +1

+XxsuzieannexX I'm in my 2nd year too and I also procrastinated the whole school year. Idk if I like my major right now cuz I haven't been taking college seriously. I'm taking this summer to really explore my interests and other majors my school offers. I believe it's important to be in a major that you're interested in/passionate about. One advice I have for you if you're thinking about switching majors: is the reason you slacked this whole school year because of the major you're in, yourself, or both? Sometimes people want to blame the major, but it's really themselves that need work.

I’ve been going through a crisis for a year/a year and a half now and have definitely made some drastic changes. While there are still those moments when I’m panic-stricken and completely lost about where I want to go, the thought that pulls me out of that endless cycle of self-doubt is the realization that I don’t regret any of the decisions I’ve made since graduation.
I quit my job at a physical therapy office doing what I studied to do in school and am now bartending. I don’t know if it’s something I plan to pursue long-term. At the moment, all I know is that I’ve made some sound decisions and that my judgement has guided me well thus far. As long as I stay on the path of whole-heartedly following my passions (in a time-efficient way), I trust that I’ll find my way.

I'm 22yo. I'm finishing my first year of dental school now (about to be 2nd year dental student). During my high school years, my college years, and even now, sometimes I get the feelings that I don't belong and that this might not be the path for me since all I could see were my failures. Also a lot of times, I just don't know how to do all these things that people expect me to do. A lot of times I was scared of uncertainty, growing up, etc.
    But you guys are right.
Life is full of struggle. I don't have to have everything figured out. As long as I don't give up and let failures get to me, I will be winning in the end.
Good luck to all of us! :)

I think what I'm going through isn't the worst of what is yet to come, and I'm overcoming my current obstacles bit by bit.
The pressure of having to do well in school with 2 amazingly smart older brothers to be compared to, the pressure of deciding the right course to take in uni whilst satisfying both myself and my parents, the pressure of doing what's right instead of what's convenient, the pressure of getting the motivation and self esteem to do whatever that I want to do.
It's definitely something that I realise everyone faces, and it's something that even if you think you've overcome, you still have to face it again And again.
I don't know how life is going to be like, I think it's scary to even think about growing up and having to face so many more obstacles, but I guess that's life right?
I may not know much, I'm 18 this year, but I know for sure that when I grow up, I want to help people. Just like how this episode has helped me. I want to let people know that no one goes through these difficulties alone, that everyone knows how it feels. And it may take some time, but that's my main goal in life. To help people.
I know no one would probably read this, but this comment was just so I could get everything out. Get my thoughts straight. But this episode really helped me. Thanks :)

Ashley, hit the nail on the head. THIS IS MY LIFE RIGHT NOW. Half my friends are getting married, having kids, starting the cliche life. The other half are all too drunk every weekend. Then there's me, who's usually looking into the fridge trying to figure out what to eat. >.<
I definitely had that this past year, plus unfortunate family health issues. I'm starting to deal with it now, to make myself happy. The struggle is willing to be happy but knowing that the path that I'm going to choose is not going to make my parents happy, and that I need to just do it for myself. Regardless of anyone's opinions. I think's that's a big struggle for a lot of us, especially first generation born asians/indian kids.

i had a major breakdown over a year ago (during my sophomore yr of college) because i was so scared of the future. i wasn't doing well in my classes; even though it was a very solid major choice (compsci), i wasn't happy. i had seriously considered transferring schools to change my major but my family helped me realize that undergrad is really not a big deal. no matter what you major in, you can always change your direction in life. so i changed my major, but without transferring, and although i'm not planning on using my new major for anything, i think the constant pursuit of knowledge in all areas of life is really important for a well-adjusted mind, so i don't regret being here and now take the time to really enjoy the entire experience instead of worrying about the future.

7:47 I like how in Chinese the word for "crisis" means opportunity and danger. In Greek, it's closer to judgment or decision. You have to make a choice about what will happen. It's not just coming to terms with what happens to you. You can do it!

I'd like to hear Phil, Wes and Christine's point of view on quarter life crisis. I'm their age and I definitely went through it after university and it lasted untiI I was 27! I'm happy that I'm now out of it and have a better sense of who I am and who I want to be. If there is any tip I can give those who don't really know what they want to pursue as a career just yet, keep trying out the things that interest you whilst working in a job that'll pay the bills. Do it on the side and during your free time. Also, talk to people who are in the field/s you're interested in and get a feel of what their life is like. It'll help you gauge if it's something you'd want for yourself long term.

i think my quarter life crisis is not having things figured out or planned out like my friends. i don't feel the pressure, but i constantly feel like i'm doing life at a different pace compared to a lot of my friends. due to Malaysia's education system, i took on Form6 (1.5 years) and will be finishing my degree ( 3.5 years) by the end of this year. i'm turning 24 and honestly, age isn't scaring me as much as it does to everyone else. what i do worry about is whether or not if i'll be able to give my parents the life they deserve after raising me and my brother up to both finish university and find jobs.
as someone who identifies very strongly as an artist, i also almost consistently feel that difference in life quality or enjoyment compared to the people around me, even if we're from the same supporting community (i.e. church). but i'm glad to say that i've met a lot more creatives along the way than i ever expected, and it's definitely helped to hear from them (whether they're younger or older) about how they deal with their lives. it keeps me motivated, and well, i guess i really need to make solid plans for my life soon.

I'm so glad I watched this video because right now at 22, and I'm less than a month away from graduating architecture school, and I've been thinking about the dilemma between having fun and explore the world while I'm young, or join the workforce immediately till my 30s. The thing is, after college graduation, I'm planning to work for 1 year in the industry as an architectural assistant (because this is the typical path for archi students after getting their bachelor degrees and it's rather compulsory to have 1 year working experience) and usually after that, we go to archi grad school to finish 2 years of masters degree till we can become a registered architect. But now at this stage of my life, I really really want to go travel and see the world and understand cultures and just find some time to understand myself and my interests (cuz archi school was so intense that there are times I lost my passion in things that I love and could do well prior to college). I just want to take time to rest and figure things out while learning new things. I guess my point is, after my mandatory 1 year of working in an archi firm, should I take a few months to go explore the world (but I may not have enough money), or should I just work super hard to get my masters degrees and work a few more years till I earn enough to travel?
If anyone here could relate, please do leave some opinions to help untangle my thoughts, I'd be so grateful!

I've also wanted to know exactly what I want to do from a very young age, but I think that honestly it doesn't make things any easier! Life can be scary whether you know what to do or not, so I agree it's about enjoying it and taking the opportunities that you can. Don't feel bad if it doesn't seem to be going right, but don't think that just because you have it "figured out" you can sit back and relax! Learn and grow and have fun! :)

My quarter life crisis started during the end of my junior year in college as a film major. I'm 25 now and am still experiencing it T_T Currently, I working as a marketer for a company but I feel like it's more of a job as oppose to a career. It sucks that I have all of these "adult" responsibilities, which is why I chose the "stable" route, but at the end of the day, film is still my passion.

I had a little bit of a 1/3 life crisis in 2015. I had just turned 30, and finally felt like my career was in the right place. My fiancé and I were planning to go overseas for our wedding (which would have been this year). And then my company downsized and I was let go (amongst other people). And so I was unemployed and we were no longer saving to to go overseas. So I really had to look at where I wanted to be, because I didn't want to just jump into a full-time job in order to pay the bills and get married (and then hate the job). I'm actually still in a little bit of a limbo a year later, but I've been working for myself, and have a better idea of the direction I want to go.

Wong Fu, I really want to know if these lunch break topics are scripted or they just happen. And after it was pointed out, I can't help but see how many times Benson clips are cut! But on the topic of a quarter life crisis, currently in college right now and having the most nerve-racking time applying for internships and co-ops for this summer to see what kind of field I want to go into. I'm definitely feeling the pressure of trying to do something with my life, being 20 it seems to come from everywhere, parents, peers, professors, friends. Thanks for doing these lunch-breaks, it really helps a lot of people and gives everyone else a lot to think about. Keep it up B-Team + Taylor. WF4E

Great LB topic, guys! I'm definitely approaching a quarter-life crisis I think... next year is my last year of uni and although I do have plans, I don't know if it'll actually be something I see myself doing for the rest of my life... although I guess you have the rest of your 20s to figure that out.

Im 23, definitely in quester-life crisis. Foster child since age 3 on my own at 18 and completely independent with bills to pay. Took student loans and graduated university. The struggle to keep up living in a suburban neighbourhood where everyone has parents who have paid for everything their whole lives and fitting in. Making hardships invisible to passer-by,
I have an idea where I want to be and am on a road to get there though.
Marketing intern for the summer with L'Oreal. Although if I don't get a full time offer, I go back to a life where one wrong move has my whole life crumble.

I really enjoyed listening to this lunch break. It was encouraging for what I think is my mid quarter crisis right now. I'm graduated and technically in a job that I imagine will be my life career, but the circumstances of this job and the communication/organization of the company is awful. I don't look forward to going to work, but I know that this is only the beginning and I'll have more chances to grow. Plus, I'm learning a lot right now anyways. So... Thanks, guys! :)

I'm 17 and I feel like I'm going through a crisis.. I plan on going to uni in the next couple of years but I don't know what I would like to study, I have interests such as product design.. but I'm scared because I feel like I just like the idea of it rather than being good at the subjectt and I'm going to be 18 this year which scares me even more.. I'm not ready to grow up yet..
obviously, time will be the answer to my questions, I just wanted to complain somewhere..

+JI2118 I get you, I experienced that too during my senior year in hs. I didn't even know what a major meant... I ended up choosing chem eng just because my cousin talked me into it. Then after my first year I realized it wasn't my thing but I still didn't know what I wanted to study. I then changed to Chem major thinking I wanted to become a pharmacist until last month when I decided to go to grad school instead. You just gotta go with the flow sometimes when plans don't work. Good luck!

Quarter life crisis is probably the most stressful. Finishing up undergrad and trying to make sure your marks, involvement and everything are good enough to get you into grad school. I'm approaching it but I'm sure many other people are too. Thanks for the advice! :)

I'm currently 15, 16 this year, and I'd say I'm having a lil quarter life crisis or something like that.. I want to be an actress, successful one that is, but I dunno how to start in the right direction towards that dream.. Like who and where do I go to? But since having a successful acting career is risky aswell, I also need a sustainable job later to keep me on top of things in my daily life later after like college for when I choose to move out and have to pay things such as bills, tax etc.. Those " adult " things you got to pay for 😂

I'm in my last quarter as an undergrad right now with a major in bio and minor in computer science, and no clue what to do with my life in a few months bc med school doesn't sound appealing to me, and neither does lab/research work. I've no idea where my passion truly lies, too late to try other majors right now, so yeah... I'm definitely facing my quarter life crisis

    Me at 12:
My sister was applying to college and she made us (her family) very involved in that process, and I realised that there are so many ways to go into life, but a lot of the time you can only pick one way to go, and in seventh grade I was worried about my future obsessively
