Catching This Had Me Worried

- We are fishing Winyah Bay in this fishing video. Winyah Bay is loaded with redfish, giant sharks and even sea turtles. Sadly, we catch a sea turtle while fishing in Winyah Bay and attempt to cut it free of the fishing line. We did not want to simply cut the line and risk the giant sea turtle becoming entangled in the fishing line. We also catch a nice shark that we release alive and also catch a giant bull redfish that we also released. We are using heavy action Hellcat rods from Catch the Fever. These heavy action Hellcat rods provide superior power when fighting large fish in freshwater and saltwater.

What were you doing when you threw the buoy? Good job cutting the line as close as possible to the hook.
What inlet did you use ???
It might be a Goliath grouper
Unbelievable! Never would inhave believed that. It's an accidental catch man it happens. That was one hell of a fight
Good video dieter
I would think that hook will eat away from it in that salt water pretty quick
Great video it's great y'all was able to free the turtle I get a turtle awhile back and it was only around 4 or 5 pounds and it did not want to come out of the water but I was able to remove the hook and return it to the water safely
One hell of a show for the ROD and REEL and LINE. Good job on release
I've landed a huge softshell turtle before it was the size of my truck tire in diameter. I have a Silverado 1500. I was able to get the hook out and let it go. It put up a good fight.
I’ve caught a few soft shells just as big in the kyack and it was a damn struggle getting them off the muddy bottom
@@tatetrullinger5492 I bet
This reminds me a little bit of my fishing encounter last night. Wasn't catching any fish and then boom my shrimp took off, I set the hook and immediately I knew I had a turtle on the other end. It was about a 10-pound map turtle. 20 minutes later, another turtle. 2 minutes later we packed up and left
I've caught more turtles than cats using chicken. So I don't bother with chicken anymore lol
❤
Sharks are next level fighting, crazy strong, he almost got you too lol. Love eating reds, but those bull reds are full of worms lol
Good job working on the release!
That was crazy, glad you was able to cut it close to the hook, good job to your son for muscling that turtle in close for ya to get it freed up again
Fishing with clickbait
Be sure to have gloves on
Wow that's light gear for off shore fishing I use 60lb slime line mono on a penn 50 lw and 100lb braid on my penn 8000 cat fishing in ohio river
It keeps it fun and sporting....
@DieterMelhorn yea I agree fun and sporting but I cry when that state record breaks me off in a big brush pile
@@robbiesmith9786 I used to care about that stuff, but now its about being the best fisherman I can be.
@DieterMelhorn to be the best u got to catch the best lol
ALWAYS check your hook after catching a turtle, their mouth's are really tough and easily bend hook points
You did the best you could do. Great job.
I think y'all handled it well, it shouldn't be a problem for the turtle. Next time I buy heavy line I think I might be buying Ande!
I have used ande 30 lb monster for years cant be beat
Best advertisement for those rods that you could get.
Big turtle 🐢? Lol correct I caught a turtle like that once was a disappointment lol
Someone mentioned at one time they thought that turtle might have been a stingray. I travel to Panama City, Fl to fish several times a year, and two years ago I caught a manta ray with a 4"10" wingspan. Manta rays almost exclusively eat plankton, but if you talk to locals, they do occasionally suck in a bait. This particular ray ate my fish bite as soon as it hit the water, I didn't even have time to get the slack out of my line before he was running with it. I caught it from the bank behind my hotel room on a Penn Battle 2 with a 12 foot pole. My cast was about 75 yards. Spent the next 45 minutes feeling like I was reeling in a Lincoln Navigator. Funny, as soon as I dragged him up in the sand to measure him, the hook literally fell out of his mouth. I never touched it. I assume whatever thin piece of meat was holding the hook he just reached its breaking point. Sadly, I doubt I'll ever have another fight like that again unless I catch a giant Goliath Grouper. BTW, I had caught some big bull reds, and some nice King Mackerel on that Penn. That Penn earned my respect that day. Some serious salt water fishermen scoff at the Penn Battle 2 for big game fish, I'm more than happy with it.
Crazy. I want to thank you for this video. I now want to look at the fishing rod
This is what the world needs to see. Conservation at it's finest. Most would have just cut the line without trying to get it so close or killed it to get there gear back. Thank You Dieter for all that you and ur Son do for the fishing community
You got it going on my friend...great video as always.
The saltwater will probably eat that hook up don't you think ???
I buying some 30lb ande for sure
I fish it saltwater all dayyyyyy replacing cost way lower than braid😂😂🎉🎉😅
Ande is s sum tuff stuff
I catch 3 to 5 turtles a year hear in e tn.A combo of snapping and softshell. Most lately are softshell.
Good job. Well thought out.
not shure good show this mite ban fishing where theyn are
Hey there Peter. Your clickbait got me.
Boy that ande some tough stuff.Must have been some good knot tyeing too.Well done
Wow y'all sure had y'all's hands full . Great video though. What a workout 😅.💯👍
Great catch and release
Great job on getting it in and cutting the line.
I catch turtles all the time, but I fish lakes. For the most part they usually just let go but some times they get the hook pretty good and it's hard to get it out.
Do you do saltwater guided trips?
I love a penn reel. But I can't stand those triangular shaped rod handles
Good work Gentlemen! 👏 🫡 Awesome to see Grayson growing in the fishing world!
Wow you are "clickbaitin"
Good job guys. You did your best with that turtle. That young man definitely got his workout in for the day. 😂

MAKE TURTLE SOUP WITH THAT TURTLE
WHEN YOU CLEAN TURTLE, SAVE LIVER FOR CATFISH BAIT
As soon as he started describing the steady pull as if it wasn't even fighting I knew it was a turtle. I've only hooked freshwater turtles but it's always like that. One time I hooked what must have been a big snapping turtle, it felt like I was tied to a slow moving boat. But then the hook came off when I gave it some slack. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the hooked didn't actually pierce anything and falls off now that there is no tension. I know it seems hard to believe after pulling that hard, but just with my freshwater turtle experience I've never had a turtle that was actually pierced with the hook.
Never caught a turtle that size (thankfully) but as a teen in the 80's we were fishing in the Straights of Juan De Fuca in Washington and a couple of Orcas swam by at full speed (we didn't even know any were around us) and one snagged a line and was peeling drag so fast we barely had time to cut the line before he completely spooled the reel.
Always bothered me about how much line that thing was dragging around until the hook rusted out. I'm sure he never knew he was even hooked and the line wouldn't cause him any issues but I still didn't like it.
In the background there's a beach, maybe you could of used the beach to get the turtle on it and take the hook out
I carry a 22 just for turtles. Man up Lil girl!
