Thank you for the treasure. It was so overwhelming to listen to my Dad on Morsing. He never had the habit of having collection of his works. Flute Sri Mali and my father had a great understanding. Miss them both
It takes seconds to recognize a genius like Harishankar. The moment he starts playing Mali's pattern in his thani, Mali immediately recognizes that he is on the right track and exclaims with a "Sabash!"
Absolutely. Evert turn of Harishankar's Thani both Mali and the audience were waiting for. The thani did a lot to dispel a lot of disappointment owing to the abrupt stoppage of the swaraprastharam by Mali and elevated an otherwise sober and dejectful experience. 😊
This darling among the rasikas for over 40 years was treated like a pariah by the music community.Raskiasxwould wait for hours for the concert to start and enjoy his music.Except Rajaratnam and palghat Mani iyer all were averse to his musical talent which they could not comprehend. They were jealous of his popularity and knowledge.Several researchers have also treated him as an untouchable.AIR has ignored to make a documentary on him.Prof Sundaram to Lalitaraman have failed to reserch his music out of hatred. This is a disservice for future generations.
What a great artist he was. We can't see like him in future to play all sthayis in a small flute. Now a days flutists are playing different flute for different sthayis. He was greate.
Fortunate to have witnessed this concert live, back in 1985. I still vividly remember the craze and anticipation ahead of the concert, and the massive / record crowd at KGS that spilled over to the open area, which was also jam-packed.... Sadly the concert ended abruptly apparently because Mali did not have the strength to continue... Regardless, this concert will remain etched in my memory as the lucky audience managed to get glimpses of the legendary genius....
Was there. Spent some time with him in the green room before the concert when U.Srinivas visited, prostrated and confessed it was his dream to listen to Mali live. Mali did mention that his arm, recovering from a fracture was hurting a lot.
I am in tears when Mali Sir says "... I am not able to continue. My hands are shivering, I am gasping for breath...". It is a tearful moment because, an era nearing an end.
This concert happened in 1985 Dec season in Krishna Ghana Sabha, T Nagar... I got Rs.10 ticket and had to sit outside the sabha hall. In between he used to stop for some minutes togoether -- Those sitting outside (the Sabha was jam packed and overflowing) could not know whether he was continuing or not. But nobody moved away till the end of the concert....What a memorable evening.......!!!!!! ( Yes ... as you said the audio quality is definetly enhanced....Thanks )
Mali is Flute; Flute is Mali. He is not only prodigy but also genious. All adjectives are not sufficient to personify his calibre of music. I can even say Lord Venugopalan had taken one more incarnation in the mortal frame of Mali in Kaliyuga to shower eternal bliss to humanity in this terrestial world.
I'm a learner of Uttar Bharitiya sangeet but I don't know why I can't control myself to listen Caranatic Music whole day This music make me feel god This makes me feel that I have achieved everything in my life now only god is the only aim 💜💜💜
