- Lumbar Spondylosis this is a weak terminology anything in lumbar like disc degeneration, disc prolapse or disc bulge we call it as a Spondylosis. This is a common man technology not a medical terminology. If you have a lumbar disc problem we can treat it by bed rest or through physiotherapy in the form of traction or decompression or by a surgery in the case of excessive pain, not able to heal through physiotherapy. When a disc is degenerated or weak when we take an x-ray suppose there is movement of bone not disc alone this stage is called instability or listasis in such cases we have to stabilize the segment or inter body cages by putting the screws there and fuse the segment. When there is an instability if you don't fuse it we can only do disc removal surgery there is a chance that patient treatment will go wrong and the situation gets worse. So that is why per-operative evaluation is very important and decide whether the patient needs physiotherapy alone or he needs a disc surgery or fusion surgery so we have to see to various aspects. Sometime we can take a standing MRI, definitely we have to take standing x-rays, bending forward or backward x-ray. Doing all this and conclude whether he needs a simpler surgery or discetomy or much more complicated surgery like a fusion surgery.

Can bilateral pars interarticularis defect of L5 vertebra be treated without surgery?
I allowed a doctor to do this to me and he clapped my nerves in the metal and screws! I woke up screaming! Worst of all he never tried to undo what he had done to the clapping of my nerves! Eventually the metal in my back (one of the screws broke and it would cut me whenever I tried to sit down! What a horrible night mare! Worse than that I had to go to a different clinic to get the broken metal out of my back and more put in because my bones were not fusing together! All because of the binde my nerves were in. I found another doctor and had to have 3 more surgeries! But nothing has helped! The doctor that botched my first surgery also pulled and attached my disc farther up than he should have. So I was constantly being pulled backwards! The right side of my body is weaker than my left. Which I am right handed so my right side should be stronger! This has been almost 10 yrs ago and I suffer daily with nerve pain and joint and bone discomfort. And today I suffer with my back going out, I can't sit long, I can't stand long, and my damaged nerves I am aware of every second of every day! Please think long and hard before allowing a doctor to mutilate you! Ask and trust in God for your healing! Me? I'm waiting and trusting in the Jesus for my healing! God bless!

I was diagnosed with lumber Spandylosis a year ago presently still experiencing pain and my Dr is suggesting sugery. But I don't really want too now in my case the l5and S1 is degenerated where the bone is lapping over and pressing into the left Nerves so with my condition do I need to do surgery, and secondly will this cause numbness in the leg and tingaling?

I have 22 age before 1 and half year l4 and l5 disc surgery done.
After the 1 and half year the pain of left leg cannot be controlled the pain still stands in the leg and I am suffering so many times. This is the result of my Xray, please I need help cos I can't walk with it and I'm bending.
FINDINGS:
There is Straightening of the normal lumbar lordosis due to reflex muscle spasm from pain.
The Vertebrae are normal in alignment, heights and density.
There are mild anterior marginal osteophytes on the endplates L4 and L5.
The inter vertebral disc spaces, pedicle and posterior elements are preserved
IMPRESSION: Lumbar Spondylosis

Diffuse posterior disc bulge with small fissural tear at L4/L5 causing indentation of traversing nerve roots and
Broad based posterocentral and bilateral paramedian disc herniation at L5/S1 causing moderate compression of traversing nerve roots more left side.

Noo! Physiotherapy is. Find good one who gives you lot of stabilzation exercises. Pain medication should take edge of so you would be able to exercise
