Wow...I did hear from a friend about some seemingly simple Barbie CGI movies like that having surprising quality and moral lessons, even when they grew up and rewatched them as an older teen and adult, but wow...the new live-action one I get, for having a more balanced, older-leaning demo in mind, and more obvious relevant topical implications, it's just odd to find out about the rest.
I watched it after he said that and holy shit is it a good movie. The attention to detail to the writing to prevent plot holes or logical inconsistencies is really well done. No one acts stupid or for the plots convenience either everyone more or less reacts as you'd expect a person in these situations to.

The Barbie Horse Adventures glitch in the thumbnail sent me 😂 it was one of the first glitches my sister and I ever encountered in a game and we always tried to find a way to trigger it with each new playthrough. Glad to know we didn’t hallucinate Barbie’s face astral projecting into the sky

He was a big Gameboy nerd and had an especially deep love for platformers that had interesting mechanics. One day he stumbled upon this one and he and my brother didn't care for the pink barbie theme, they played the HELL out of this game. They both reckognized that some talented people must have worked on the game design and loved and discussed every level

Your voice delivery is consistent with your other content, which makes the format feel familiar. Mrs Odd's inclusion is honestly a highlight for me. Please do more of these. She knows your style and plays to your strengths
I think the contrast between Odd's objective and laid-back commentary and Ms. Odd's sheer vitriol is a lot of fun to listen to. I wouldn't be opposed to Oddheader featuring her in more videos

Barbie Pet Rescue is one that I'm actually quite fond of. The repetitiveness is kinda calming, it's still my go to when I just want to zone out for a wee bit before bed

For me, it was all about the first Detective Barbie. I played it over and over, even when I was way too old to enjoy it. Ken? Potentially murdered? Becky, best girl, helping us document clues? A new culprit based on what clues you collect? Chase sequences that I was great at as a kid but... as an adult I couldn't do these!
The newer ones weren't as great. But that's my favorite Barbie game. And... I did memorize just how to get which suspect. You can game the system slightly if you're really hoping to get a certain person in the cut scene. Takes a little bit.
Ocean Explorer glitched so badly on my computer as a child. But Captain Barnacle made me dedicated to finishing it. Every time the game crashed I'd just try again. The horse games were always so poorly optimized but they didn't crash like Ocean Explorer did. I guess my childhood computer just didn't like sassy dolphins.
2:53 - This is the infamous Tower of Hanoi puzzle, legendary for being the last bastion of developers everywhere who really, really need a puzzle for this one bit of their game but just cannot be arsed to come up with anything of substance. Mass Effect has one.

I'm a dude, but I grew up with a sister who liked Barbie and I'd watch her play some of the games sometimes just because I liked watching people playing games, even before UA-cam. Plus, some of the games were challenging and I would help her out. The only one that I ever really enjoyed was Barbie Horse Adventures on the PS2. I don't have memories of any others with any kind of definitiveness, though I think I watched her play some of the ones based on the various animated films. I also vaguely remember something about one on the Gameboy Advanced where Barbie was a spy or some shit.
Same story here except it was a different ps2 barbie game i don't remember the name of, i am the eldest brother (20 yo) and my younger sister (2 years younger than me) would beg me to complete the game for her and to my surprise it was challenging but very fun and intriguing game 😂❤

As someone who played Kelly Club when I was Kelly’s age…yes, I loved it! And many of the other games featured on here. This video was a nostalgia bomb for sure!

I've legit heard from multiple different people before that some of those horse Barbie games were unexpectedly good. I really respect when a studio ends up working on an "easy" license they could make into shameless shovelware and still sell but you can tell they put in care into it and tried to make something genuinely good. Those WayForward GBA games in particular look sweet with detailed animations and creative game mechanics! The mirror mechanic that Ms. Odd hightlighted at 1:05:34 looks quite interesting, it actually reminded me of a similar short section in Sonic Adventure 1, the Hall of Mirrors in Twinkle Park when playing as Amy.
Great video, I was surprised to see such an unusually long video from Oddheader, but the pacing and editing felt just as good as a typical video, Ms. Odd did a great job with her analysis/commentary and the un-cynical chance you gave all these games was quite refreshing! :D
Mrs. Odd's narration is really nice, although I personally am a fan of the term "toboggan"
35:47 this was the only game on this list that I played as a kid. the maze portion always creeped me out a bit as a kid, as well as the villain's floating head at the beginning. Glad to see the game holds up for what it was, it and Mathra, and some scooby-doo educational (?) games were basically all we had in my early childhood so It's got a special place in my heart despite being crusty as all heck lol.
This brought back so many memories! I remember playing the 12 dancing princesses game on DS constantly. I also had the Barbie as rapunzel game on pc. The final maze part of that game was my introduction to liminal spaces and gave me nightmares. Something about turning the corner and seeing the princes's stone statue always felt like a jumpscare as a kid. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

Disappointed that the pc version of Fashion Show was omitted from the list, I spent an embarrassing amount of my childhood playing that one, lmao. I did have the pc versions of Princess and the Pauper and Pet Rescue though. Loved those games as a kid despite not owning a single Barbie. Awesome video!

I was a tomboy little girl but loved playing twelve dancing princesses on the ds as a kid. I'm looking forward to watching this to see how it rates against the other barbie games.

This was actually a lot more interesting of a video than I expected. It was nice to see (and hear) Mrs. Odd's contributions, I thought she was really interesting and added a lot to the video. I definitely wouldn't have watched this if I weren't already a fan of Oddheader, but this was a nice change of pace and it was put together well.

I only had two Barbie games as a kid: Barbie Pet Rescue, and Secret Agent Barbie, both for the PC. I ADORED both of them so much and played them over and over non-stop; it’s nice to see two of my childhood favorites get such high praise!

Barbie games could honestly be the thought child of Lara Croft and Solid Snake and i'd stan it. imagine how cool it would be to have action / action/stealth for kids and include the """girly""" stuff Barbie is known for, like horse riding, animal friends and cleverly using outfits, perhaps even the more fantasy stuff like mermaids and dragons. what an interesting game that could be.

13:44 that's 'cause it's a toboggan, not a sled. Sleds are typically larger and definitionally have runners (those ski-like structures that keep the body from sitting directly on the snow), if you're just sitting on a few boards of wood (or modern plastic) plonked directly on the snow, you're on a toboggan, and you're tobogganing, not sledding 👍

Serious talk; the ending where they make the guy laugh uncontrollably for the rest of his life is a horrible punishment. He can't sleep, eat, or socialize anymore because of being unable to stop laughing.
13:45 Well, she calls it a toboggan because that's actually the proper term for it. Calling it a sled is incorrect. A sled has metal (or some other material) runners underneath it, a toboggan just lies flat on the ground.
The one thing in this vid that bugged me: My kid had a barbie game on PS2 so it had to be on this list. It was so awful of a game I actually refused to let her play it any longer as the load times easily rivaled those of the Commodore 64, and that was between EVERY mini game you wanted to play. it was so incredibly awful. May have been island princess. I remember one mini game where you threw a spear or something then apparently mind controlled it to avoid objects and finally hit a target. I wasn't about to let my daughter grow up playing something so utterly awful. Ugh. Nightmare fuel! Thanks for the awesome video as always Odd family!

Coming into this video, I thought to myself “I wonder what they’ll rate that spy Barbie GBA game I loved as a kid.” I remembered it being super fun and complex with satisfying sprite animations on almost a Symphony of the Night level.
