Really good! Was actually thinking of these rules as saw them in use at Partizan (via UA-cam) didnt realise they were in use, so thank you for the review.
There's a lot of Scenarios and campaign books also already done, including able to game the Falklands. As I'm not one to faff with printers can you direct to an artscow link, and what do you think of the CoC'd versionfrom Lard Magazine 2. Maybe play intro game with the two styles and let us know what you think. Best of Both worlds, or a half way house to each one?
Yes, it's very well supported and I am aware of Des' CoC version. I have already played the intro game and filmed it, which will be along at some point, but I was also thinking about doing the dice version. Here's the list of Lardy cards on Artscow: dereksweetoys.com/artscow-cards-for-lardy-games/
Going to give this a go as will fit in well with CoC and O Group. October will mark 1 year since I last played FoW LOL :). Really enjoying being a convert to the Cult of Lard - even got me to paint Spanish Napoleonics to play Sharp Practice. I think it is the playing the period not the rules aspect that I enjoy the most and the random activation and/or the fact that you have to adjust your plans depending on the option dealt via the dice roll.
Nice overview of the rules Alex, very helpful! I'm starting a Vietnam project and looking at Charlie Don't Surf rules but unfortunately there isn't anything out there covering CDS. And the rules aren't laid out as nicely as IABSM. But I'm hoping with Battlefront re-releasing their Vietnam range we'll see a little more coverage of the rules, but CDS seems to be a forgotten set of rules.
I’ve really enjoyed this one. As I or re engaged with WWII (my first games were with Charles Grants ‘Battle’ when it was published in Meccano Magazine) since 1967/8 I played with Airfix and some ho scale models I’ve forgotten the name of. When the game with just a platoon per side was presented at the Words wargame championship was played in Derby I jumped in and bought the rules from Dave Ryan- Cain of Command it was brilliant so taking advice from a gamer that I needed one size figure for both games IABSM and CoC but I messed about wit card bases learning the rules and bought some PSC 15mm for both then as a wargamer I bought some early war 1940 Brits in 28mm. A can of Khaki spray paint was a life saver, IABSM if yo want to try 2 companies per side with poor communications you get a very frustrating battle . It really shows the frustrations of a ‘B’ company commander when ‘A’ company is getting all the fire support from battalion HQ . This isn’t in the rules but a die roll will say where the support goes.. To begin with just play with one company as the rules lay it out. This video has smoothed out things I’d overlooked so I’ll sneak into a shady spot in the garden shed and run through all these videos again. Retired and more time for Wargames Ha! You’re having a laugh ☹️
Cheers Andrew. No, I haven't. Iain sent them over to me before they were actually published in the Lardy mag, but I just haven't had a chance to give them a go since...
Just want you to know that thanks to you, I've got a copy of this and The Christmas Special 2014 so I can get my friends to try IABSM with 29 Let's Go Large. So Rich owes you a pint
Excellent, glad to hear it! If you hang on a couple more days I've made two sets of IABSM cards at printerstudio.co.uk that are just waiting to be approved for sale.
here they are: I've added two sets of IABSM cards to my Printer Studio shop for those in the UK, you'll need both sets of cards for a full set of IABSM cards: www.printerstudio.co.uk/sell/stormofsteel
Isn't it odd the different things people like about a game? Cos for me think the fire table is one of the biggest draws to the game (as in Troops weapons and tactics).
@StormofSteelWargaming I think having it on the back keeps it accessible enough to not take me out of it. Now when sides meet in melee on the other hand... (still not a real problem though).
I’m interested in a company level game so will be buying the PDF for sure. I just wanted to ask, and correct me if I’m wrong, but could you not just play Chain of Command at company level or are the mechanics not designed for that?
You can play Big CoC which means you can field multiple platoons, but it is better and easier to manage if each player has there own platoon. It's more intended for multiplayer games. IABSM isn't as granular as CoC, so one player can control a company much more easily.
Good solid review. Actually it also makes me want to dust of my 6mm's and my copy of the rules and play again. Or maybe even Charlie Doesn't Surf.. humm...
Nice introduction video...Thou, think it would've been much better to simply have it 1" = 10 meters (or 10" = 100 meters)...So, does each turn equal 2 or 5 minutes of combat ?

You'll love it, IABSM is an excellent game and I've never had a bad experience with it.

@@StormofSteelWargaming This is a great time to start Vietnam 😉

So good I watched it twice! Tiny was very helpful by using his tail as a pointer. 🙂
She has her uses!
Play sheets for your army speed things up, but then I’m used to them.
Nice vid. Have you played the CoCing up IABSM variant Alex? If so, what did you think?
Cheers Andrew. No, I haven't. Iain sent them over to me before they were actually published in the Lardy mag, but I just haven't had a chance to give them a go since...
Maybe this weekend though...
They are great, I also have CoC and like the the unique start up for CoC.
Great Revue!

I have a love/hate relationship with it. I'd prefer to keep my eyes on the tabletop, but I really like the KS style of the table.

Hi Alex - i think you have played IABSM as a solo war game? how did that go? cheers Nigel
Hi Nigel, yep, I've played it loads as solo. There's tons of videos on the IABSM playlist. It works perfectly well as solo!
Good solid review. Actually it also makes me want to dust of my 6mm's and my copy of the rules and play again. Or maybe even Charlie Doesn't Surf.. humm...
Cheers, yeah, it's a cracking game that often gets forgotten. Never had a bad game of it though!

Thanks, I was just reading what was written in the rules themselves. Each turn is elastic and doesn't have a set time attached.
Great review one thing missing is the basing style.
Thanks, there's no basing style in the rules.

@@Agent_Pumpkin I like to do one base of 4, one of 2 and two singles, that way it is easy to make change when casualties happen
