Never bought merch in my life, but I will when it comes out. You provide more than just Reef Therapy. To me, you guys look at reefing the way I want to see it. You speak deep to me because reef is what you do and what your passion is about. These sessions feel very therapeutically and give me a sense of belonging. Love what you do!!!

Hey Jake, In the spirit of underrated corals and fish, your buddy Ali in LA exemplifies the appreciation of classic livestock and techniques. Your videos of his store are what inspired my current mixed reef of softies and LPS.

Love my Neon Dotty back. It's also been a help to keep my red flat worms in check. (he went on a swim about to the sump through the overflow for a few days and started to see the flatworms come back. 2 days after he 2as back in the main display the flatworms are gone) . In my 90 Gallon he leaves everyone alone and just does his own thing in and out of the rock work

Jake you should do a video on bare bottom tanks and how to avoid bacteria blooms or the struggles when setting up a bare bottom with dry rock. Every time you make a new tank it seems like you don’t struggle at all especially with the Australian scoly dominated reef..

I have a swiss gaurd in my 64 gal sps dominated peninsula tank. It right its very cryptic, I see him maybe 2 or 3 times a week and its usually when I'm cutting a frag or moving something around he pops out and looks for any tiny morsel it can find to eat! Very inquisitive fish too! It's small like 2.5"...

I have tons of those micro brittle stars and love 'em. I have some red ones too. I like the format guys, kinda the conversations I like having with other reefers. Maybe it's me, but it seems like only people who've been in this hobby since the 80's or 90's think this way? Keep up the great conversations, wish I can jump in sometimes, but I'll sit back and enjoy. Caulastrea furcata is such an underrated coral, but seeing huge round colonies of them simply rocks.

My under rated fish would be a Court Jester Goby. Love my little guy, when he's not chilling in his own little home in the rock work he's helping munch away at algae and left over food on my sand bed.

Also have a Talbot had him over a year so not really long term. Model citizen. He does like to dig and before the sponge got a chance to stick on the rock he was throwing it around the tank like a soccer ball.

Yes, another video. Working from home. Saw it. Had to start watching, but will finish it this evening as i am only at 27:19. 😀. Threadfin cardinals are under rated in IMO. When happy and adjusted to a tank the iridescent metallic blue is just phenomenal. I was reluctant to purchase scissortail gobies, but did, and was so happy with the 5 i got. The black colorstion was like velvet. They showed behavior I had not seen before. They would swim mid-water column and nuzzle each other. A behavior i had never seen before. So gentle. I need to get back to work . Ha ha

Now that i have finished watching the video i can say these series are spot on. 43 yrs in the hobby and you brought back some great memories. I still like halides. Had several of the Inland Aquarics algae scrubbers. What memories. Stomatella are awesome and mine breed regularly. Other fish that are underrated are masked gobies as well as the other i mentioned in my earlier post. I think blue ridge coral, hydnaphora, and photosynthetic gorgonians are all underrated. I’ve had hydnaphora that with 1-2” thick branches. Unfortunately today, it seems tanks are broken down before colonies really mature and look spectacular or are hacked up to make a buck. Please keep these series coming. The community needs to hear these type discussions.

I just bought a yellow eyed kole tang and a nice lord from the lfs* yesterday, I never ask for anything on the coral I’m wanting to buy as I’ve already done my research before buying. Idk why but I only gravitate to corals I’ve learned about, but this lord has like really lime green mouths and the outside are purple and blue. So nice, about 9 polyps. Idc if someone gave the coral a cool name, it’s just a lord to me. The kole tang so far is healthy, they aren’t too expensive in Florida and each lfs had a few

    2:11 in im hooked!
Ive spent nearly 1k in 2 years on coral.
Now to many that price tag may seem snuff and small.
But i only bought sick ill injured or 15$ or less coral. This includes many expensive ones as right place right time my gain IF I CAN KEEP IT ALIVE! This has lead to nearly 6,000$ in coral today in two years if i where to sell all of it and quit, but whats the fun cutting small and medium colonies you started with less than a half inch frag in most cases.
JAKE thank you! You put a push on bahama lama and inappropriate reefer to clean the cord mess up. *well i did too! Video comming* it has made my reefing soooooo much soother qnd cleaner and ENJOYABLE! *IT LOOKS SPACE AGE OUTTA THIS WORLD*
AND coral shouldnt be $$$$ over a name its well whats the color and species lets go! Rare is eyes of the beholder unless its endangered

I love my neon dottyback. I love the way he swims around like an eel. I have some of those small red bristleworms for Mark if he still wants some. Once I started target feeding my Xmas favia the colors just started popping like no other. Underrated fish is the blue reef chromis or any other non blue green chromis. Underrated coral would have to be psammacora. They have super cool colors and growth patterns. Leptastrea is the same.

  • @bthefountain

I will say, when I first started a few years back, I’d asked what a coral was, meaning... what species. I didn’t know enough to know if something was a zoa or what. Someone snapped back at me that he didn’t name his corals. I was SUPER confused why he didn’t know the type of Coral he was selling. There’s still corals I see and haven’t seen before.

  • @ifly65

If one inch of sand is equal to a 10 lb fish using up oxygen, how can bristle worms be any different? What benefit do they really have? Dont they leave bad nutrients and possibly spread infections easier?

under-appreciated corals I’ve always loved are turbinaria. I’ve got a yellow scrolling colony, a big green peltata, and a hand-sized heroensis colony in my tank that look great and I’ve never had any issues keeping and growing. It’s always surprising with how much effort people put into acros that the sturdier corals with similar(ish) sps growth forms just don’t seem to get much love
