  • On this episode we review the almost surprisingly excellent Difiano Marlin. I say that because it's honestly still hard for me to believe that watches can be this good under $500, hell, this one is actually under $400! The bar continues to be raised and the limits of what we can expect from a wristwatch in this price range continue to enrich. What a time to be alive, I'm so happy to see more and more original designs coming from young brands, executed to such high levels. Let me know what you all think in the comments below, thanks guys!

Just when I think I’ve gotten out of buying watches, they pull me back in.

I bought two of these and really enjoy them. The bracelet is super comfortable, the Lume is amazing and the customer service is great. They were on the spot when I needed some links and some extra claps I put on my other watches. Great group, cant wait to see the next iteration.

Seeing all these micro brands really makes me want to start my own. I believe there’s a big opening in the market that’s being missed. I’d like to see companies offering an original design with the specs and features of something like a Steinhart OVM 39 or a Ocean 39 Ceramic.
I’m looking for a 39-40mm x 13mm brushed case with 45-47mm L2L, 20mm lugs, flat or very slightly domed sapphire crystal, 20-16mm tapering bracelet with SEL, fully milled clasp, and screw links. The only other brands I can think of off the top of my head that are in this ballpark are Maen and Christopher Ward. Zelos was with the Mako V2. The $500-800 price point for 39-40mm divers with a Swiss movement is wide open.
If someone put an original dial and hands in a case and bracelet like the OVM 39, running a SW200-1 or STP 1-11 I think that would fly off the shelves. I’d especially love to see something like that with a retro inspired design.
I know you looked into starting your own brand. I’d love to chat with you to see how far you got into the process before backing out.

It was just too much capital upfront, more than I could commit to for a side passion. If I was going able to commit to a full time shift of attention, I would've move forward for sure. For now, I'm more set on doing a collaboration piece with an established brand.

@Timeline Watch Review if you're serious about filling a gap in the market, start putting out some ladies watches - or at least ladies sizes. My wife has been following my collecting journey and decided she'd like to get in on the action, but do you think I can find her a ladies dive style? invicta and Adina have been the only ones to fit the bill so far, it's really frustrating. She hates that most ladies watches are dainty and pretty. Food for thought, I realise it's a mostly male-centric market but still, there's a gap.

Loco Benno that’s a good point. You can find some “ladies” dive watches, but not many. I think there’s an Oris Aquis in a woman’s size. I had a hard time finding my wife her first automatic watch.

Too long lug to lug. Very nice, worth investigating for some folks.

Sadly yet another Seiko NH35. I think people would gladly pay an extra $50 for a 9015 or at least give us the option to.

Same clasp that was so bad that Zelos stopped using it is the "gold standard"? It's awful, plain and simple. It's way too thick, making it uncomfortable, and it has micro adjustment holes that aren't usable, which is just unforgivable lack of attention to detail. I'm noticing you never come across a watch that you don't heap praise on. Am I wrong?

For many that type of buckle is thestandard on a modern sports watch, you're right, I turn away a lot of watches that don't interest me. I don't look for crap products to call crap in videos, I find ones that look good and offer my thoughts. Many aspects of wrist watches are totally subjective, believe me, I have to read through all the comments, you do a simple clasp w/o tooless ajustment and people cry out, you do a ratching claps and it's too big for others, you can't make everyone happy. It doesn't meen that you can't make a lot of people happy. Either option adds value for the right person.

Domenick, I dive, so the clasp is great for me. I find it very comfortable, and no, it isn’t anything fancy, but it functions very well, better than my Helm ratchet clasp. Maybe because I have a 71/2” wrist it works, it certainly might not for smaller wrists.
