Well Shannon is a more common name. Korbut, Comaneci and Mary Lou aren’t any names you would wonder who they are and any gymnastics fan/watcher wouldnt question who Shannon is😂😂😂. I love the fluff pieces from the 90s but they always took her as the why use both names but they always did with all the other ones too. She was back in the gym every day because she loved doing gymnastics. When I qualified for nationals (broke my back two weeks before) I had half the judges write on my card that I should smile more. It just wasn’t me being bubbly. Shannon said it perfectly by saying, “who said it’s not?” Always loved her attitude of it’s not losing a gold medal, it’s winning a silver. More that two other people in the world had ever done during her time competing in the Olympics. Only one other person in the world EVER has won two silver medals back to back in the Olympic all around and she was the first to do it!!!
Kudos for all the non american contestants for staying focus while an entire crowd loudly cheer for its national team. How can you even hear the music on floor when everyone around scream ? You can be chauvinistic but respectful at the same time...
@@ifalloveragain And you don’t think this happens at every Olympic Games or World Championships around the world? You mustn’t be an American, and if you are, you’re one of the cooky ones with a few screws loose 🤦♀️. What you initially said made absolutely no sense at all, but if I understand what you’re trying to say, it still doesn’t make any logical sense. Stay in your lane.
@@2AFARXDEUXthey do have a point though. People were a bit too rowdy during this Olympics and if I'm not mistaken, they would even cheer if an athlete from another country made a mistake. Cheering for your own country is obviously expected and ok, but it can be done without being rude to others. Also, people cheered louder here than any other Olympics lol.
I disagree. I watched the 1992 Olympics and enjoyed it as much. I will say, it was the last Olympics I enjoyed. I miss the grace that used to be part of the judging. Nowadays, it's how high you can get which takes away much of the grace when landing. People have forgotten how difficult it is to do a routine while being graceful.
I think Shannon always loved classical music, but I heard that Dominique’s coaches chose that music for her because they were trying to play to the international judges. Dom wouldn’t have chosen that music if she’d had her say. At least that’s what I heard!
Its not all about playing to the crowd, the international judges have to be impressed also, and I would say that is more important. Shannon's style always revolved around that kind of music and it usually worked well for her.
I'm sorry I have to be the one to say that fluff piece on Shannon what absolute horse crap! I mean they kinda try to imply that she wasn't on a "first name basis" cause she didn't win gold in 92 😂 disgusting
They were starving those girls back in the day. American women are proving that you don’t have to be waif-thin and dang near emaciated to participate in this sport- and oh by the way, dominate it as well. You don’t have to watch, but we’re still going to win. It’s a new day and a new era and I love all the various body types that are out there competing and winning. And going out to eat pizza afterwards.
Was thinking the same as I watch this again. The origins of gymnastics was meant for women to show her grace while still being sporty. Men joined the sport later to show they too can be graceful. Watching gymnastics now is not as enjoyable unless grace is involved. I do agree, USA gymnastics is not as attractive to watch, but other countries are still nice to watch. Also, some of the newer moves look terrible to watch. To the haters of my comment, I am American who misses the grace that the US has removed from gymnastics and it is my opinion of my preference. I don't stop anyone from their own preferences.
I was there that night. I tried to get tickets to the individual all around but ended up with these. Turns out I was really glad.
They must have been expensive!
I love that there’s no ‘green screen’..no camera tricks,..just pure, honest, (and grindingly hard!) earned talent!!!
I love this one so much. I cry every time after Keri lands that vault with a hurt ankle. Talking about taking one for the team! 🥇🇺🇸🥇
Thank you for showing this👍👏
I am still annoyed we didn't get to see all teams get their medals and greet each other.
Amanda on the beam….PERFECTION!!!
Should gave been a 9.8!
DD is great there was always enjoyment in her routine love the gymnast how great the routine are Americans gymnastics at its best.
It always amazed me how quiet the commentators would get when it was D. Dawes turn even though she had the highest scores on average.
Dawes had terrible forms and she lacks artistic. That's why.
@@Shane_2022 B.S. she literally had the HIGHEST overall score from the US going into the individual finals.
@@RP.123 Why do you keep repeating yourself? I read your previous comment. Her form is terrible even back then no matter what her score is.
@@Shane_2022because you are a liar and a lie must be refuted with the truth. Again, Dawes had the highest score going into the individual finals.
@@RP.123 I had a crush on the 96 team when I was younger. Shannon Miller was kinda hot but Dawes was UGLY.
Nice video.
Back when the leos covered the gymnasts properly - leos looked dignified but still were functional.

1992 was last exciting gymnastics, never be another one like that

Gymnastics at its finest good American al around USA
Seems like it was easier to "stick" the landings prior to 2000
OBVIOUSLY, they were doing way easier vaults! Most of those vaults would not even count as an elite vault anymore.
Weird musical choices by Dominique Dawes & Shannon Miller on FX. Russian music at an American held Olympics? It didn't make sense.
