You just need to download a camera app an example is open camera app, go to settings, audio source, select external microphone (if present). That's what I do

I tried this today. this seems to mute my phone. I can record through the mic, but to listen to the recording I have to unplug the dongle. it doesn't help if you are doing video conferencing. People would hear you, but you won't hear them. I wonder if there is a way to stop the phone from defaulting to the internal speakers when the dongle is plugged in.
You can use bluetooth to connect an audio out device; otherwise, you would need a headphone jack splitter adapter, and have the microphone plugged in as well as a pair of headphones for audio out.

I plugged my RODE TRRS Lava using a "3.5 TRRS to USB-C". The audio quality is ruined on my type c android. Comapred to plugging it directly into an AUX android. The quality is perfect. I don't trust these connections. Loses quality badly.

I don't understand, I have a type C USB. Is the type C dongle something different? Type C won't connect to iPhone or older Androids? I know it's me missing something here. Something to do with that dongle?
Lol could have done the exact same thing by simply plugging it into the audio jack. I do it without any problems. That adapter is just an extra unnecessary step

It still works. You just can't hear audio when it's plugged in because it acts as headphones as well
