+Cian Cunningham Apparently there is someone with the name Bobby Gimbal running as a candidate for the American 2016 Presidential election, but he seems a bit askew toward the right.
+AceOfROMs Lots of boats have them, they're basically just a can shaped basket that is free to rotate in two directions from the top. The weight of the drink keeps the can upright like one of those punching clowns
My former submarine (Renown) used Gyroscopes for navigation, 4 gyros, one spinning North, One East and one to the center of the earth. with a 4th for error correction. A gyro that is spinning for 24 hours without correction will "topple" this is called Rigidity in space, but they also suffer from precession and will oscillate like a sine wave........ (its been 20 years since I was last a submariner and I still remember that shit)
2:30 "Motorless systems" ...clearly looking at a picture of a motor (servo) stabilized gimbal...a very expensive one. The next picture illustrates a gravity powered stabilizer.
As an aviator and one who works in aerospace, this is one of the better, quick rundowns on gimbals (and gyros, which shouldn't be excluded from the title). If anyone is interested, especially with regards to gyro and gimbal usage in space flight, look up "gimbal lock." You'll more than likely find it fascinating. All that being said, Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) gyroscopes should also be mentioned, as they are smaller, "solid state" versions of their predecessors, and are found in a lot of todays technology.
Linus, I am truly impressed with your TelePrompTer reading. It is truly an art, and not everyone can do! I'm also truly surprised at how many times I used truly. Truly amazing to truly use a word truly too many times, and truly say nothing! Truly though I must bring this to and end. Truly yours, Eflat P.S. Truly I meant that truly!!!
+ivanjacob If it's a major cymbal brand, Sabian, Zildjian, Paiste, they're using B8-B20 bronze. Maybe some knockoff Chinese cymbals are made of brass, IDK
The Blair Witch Project is the only film I've ever tried to walk out on except my mates promised it would get better. Afterwards I was so cross with them for making me stay lol
A video on gimbals that doesn't mention gimbal lock or quaternions? After a memory leak video that doesn't mention garbage collection, I guess I can't be surprised.
Video suggestion: GTX 970 vs R9 390. They're the top best bang for buck gaming cards right now. From what I've read, the R9 390 seems to have a slight edge in terms of raw performance but the GTX 970 has Nvidia's niftier features. I'd love to hear what LinusTech has to say about it.
FASTER EXPLANATION HERE I GIMBAL IS A GOOD REPRESENTATION OF GYROSCOPIC STABILITY BASICALLY IT KEEPS U UPRIGHT IN ANY DIRECTION LIKE IF U WERE IN SPACE NO UP NO DOWN IN A GYROSCOPE U WONT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE
Boy ! You a falling way behind on the learning curve ! Move up to Solid State gyroscopes (and Accelorometers) that was developed in NM (New Mexico) and built on using old tech IC chips. And do not forget "Gimbal Lock" that was a popular term back in the Apollo days ! Try, try again. tjl
I met a man named Gim Bal. He was a pretty steady guy
this. this is a beautiful comment.
+IN3ViTABL3 CONS3QU3NC3S I like you, you can stay
+Cian Cunningham the dad jokes are real

"As fast as possible"
Start with unnecessary jokes
All I care about is that gimbal cup holder!

5 min video
3 min content of value.
2 min sponsorship etc.
:(
I’m 37 and I still think gimbals, and the idea of inertial momentum in general, are magical.
I can tell you guys have a lot of fun editing these XD
Could have been 20 seconds shorter.
The gyro or souvlaki image made me hungry
+Theodor Mauros kai mena XD
+xGiorgos kai emena malaska
Welcome to the Έλληνες club! Το ξέρατε ότι ο Linus έχει κάνει τον γάμο του στην Ελλάδα?
oxi :P
oxi xD gamato
5 minute video and 2 mins of it is an ad. I guess at least it's at the end.
It can also be pronounced "jimbal". In fact, according to Dictionary.com, Wiktionary, and Collins Dictionary, "jimbal" is the primary pronunciation.
Do you use freshbooks, linus?
At first I thought Linus said teapots that never tip over. That would be hilarious.
Is it just me or does Linus sound weird in this video?
+Oktay Yildirim there's also background noise or something
he could have a cold
+Oktay Yildirim I thought the same thing. Sick?
+Oktay Yildirim Linus sounds weird in every video.
Especially the ones he isn't in.
+Oktay Yildirim yeah I was wondering too
Is it just me or did Linus just start hitting puberty.
Look at him now lol
@@pepo_pipi my comment aged well I see

Awesome idea for a techquickie
most cymbals are brass. hell if i had gold cymbals they would look like crushed tinfoil cans by now
no, they're specialized bronze alloys
+BadKnightLv01 It depends on the brand and line of cymbal.
+ivanjacob If it's a major cymbal brand, Sabian, Zildjian, Paiste, they're using B8-B20 bronze. Maybe some knockoff Chinese cymbals are made of brass, IDK
+BadKnightLv01 Brass is a bronze alloy.
+BadKnightLv01 my bad i meant bronze. brass is way too malleable to be used for cymbals.
Any chance you could get some acoustic foam on the wall behind the camera to remove some of the annoying echo? Just really noticeable.
Bro just explain how it works, we already know what it does.
Well presented, Thank you so much John Down Under
Who's watching in 2020 and laughing at that drone stability footage?
Is it sad that I've been waiting for this video for a while now?
Major spill detected. From the green screen on to Linus' face and arms.
The Blair Witch Project was meant to look as authentic as possible afaik. So the shakiness was intentional, so gimbals would've defeated the purpose.
Hey you should make a video on DSLR and Mirrorless Camera. What is the difference?
The Blair Witch Project is the only film I've ever tried to walk out on except my mates promised it would get better. Afterwards I was so cross with them for making me stay lol
You learn something new everyday. 😀
I just got an ad starring Linus before I watched a video with Linus. I saw what you did there, Linus.
i don't care about the subject, this guys just entertaining.
A video on gimbals that doesn't mention gimbal lock or quaternions? After a memory leak video that doesn't mention garbage collection, I guess I can't be surprised.
I watched all of these and was like "what!!! A fast as possible I haven't seen!!!"
LINUS, ARE YOU GETTING AT WHAT I THINK YOU ARE GETTING AT?
Wasnt expecting to see linus when I googled gimbal lock
@techquickie can you guys make an episode on how ram works? if that doesn't work a backup is how does a hard drive work?
Please do a video on registry errors
Cool episode!!!
Great, now I'm hungry for gyros, thanks Linus
The Blair Witch Project looked like that on purpose, it made the movie feel more real.
Bursts of As fast as possible been a few weeks then BOOM got a burst.
Oooo Linus you could explain differential calculus and integral calculus and i would still watch your chanel, tnks for the vid
1:17 such as the Costa Concordia (capsized January 13, 2012)
Next can you a video on how pampers works. Thanks
Do an episodes on network peering! People need to know what happens beyond their home connection.
0:47 ayooo tf was that cut sheeeeeesh
Lol... Here is how a gimbal works... Oh you know what's cool? FRESHBOOKS!!!
Channel of Linus, Host- Linus, Advt. From youtube - Actor - Linus
2 min ad from a 5 min video... again...
"it's attatttcthhh too" lmao love this show
Gimbal Lock next?
Never downvoted Techquickie before, but now the oversaturation of advertisement has continued.
As of this moment, 6 people did the other thing.
Is it just me or is the recording for this episode a lot nicer than normal?
... Or is Linus just ill xP
lol rly you know "gyros" Linus or did you google it? Hi from Greece!
Why didn't he make mention of Gimbal Lock?
Taran on Techquickie or riot
Linus pls make a tech-quickie on seagates SMR technology thnx
linus tech tips
Gimble cup holder FTW!!!
So half of these videos are actually techquickie the rest is sponsors/ adds
I never thought learning could be so awesome. Oh please, teach me more. This is the way to spend a weekend.

off topic: any body else with Adblock disabled havin 2 1/2 minute ad for a 5 minute video??
Linus, problems with your sinus?
I want to hear you start an advertisement section without me realizing that you're doing it until like halfway through it.

I didn't realize this was just released😂
Isn't the thing that keeps ships from turning over called gravity?
+Tb0n3 The French caused 9/11
+Jesus Crust He's actually correct, the lower half of a ship is heavier than the upper half so it tends to stay upright.
Teh fuk was that sound on the background while linus is speaking precisely on 2:33. Sounded like he woke some ancient god from the dead.
Can you do a episode on Pagers
Laser printers as fast as possible
i though we were going to learn about the gimbal lock problem in 3d graphics
This reminds me of Mr. Garrison's "It"
Lol, that intro is funny.
2:27 That first gimbal is motorized....
Seriously?! Almost 2 minutes of adverts?!?!
@2:30 motorless one ??? that thing is brushless motor design !!
In satellites they actually use a form of this technology called "reaction wheels" which are spun up and stopped quickly to influence movement!
Gyros is awesome!
What about gimbal lock and 4th gimbal?
Asynchronous compute AFAP please
is it me or was this video about something i really don't bother not knowing about.
