    Get the Yelangu s60t here: bhpho.to/2neeaTE
    You get the steadycam in a small bag together with a manual, a hex key and some extra weights. It's made out of carbon fiber, and weights only 800 grams without the weights.
    The key elements of a good steadicam is the three axis gimbal with the yaw axis, pitch axis, and roll axis, the option to adjust the camera back and forth and side to side, adding weights and adjusting it up and down. The Yelangu s60t have it all, and it's easy to adjust.
    The Yelangu s60t can handle cameras up to 3kg, so DSLRs are perfect. If you are using DSLR cameras or smaller, and do take care of your equipment while traveling, the Yelangu a60t is exactly the product you need. Actually it’s cheaper then to build one yourself.
    UPDATE: I bought mine at the IBC exhibition in Amsterdam September 2015 for $50. The price may vary from place to place, so be sure to do some research before buying :)

    I was obsessed with Steadicam when I learned about it at a filmmaking camp in 1996 when I was 16. Years later I was working as a Specialist at an Apple Store and Garrett Brown walked in. I didn't know it was him at first - but he looked so familiar. When I was running the sale for him I asked for his last name to enter in payment. As soon as he said "Brown" I looked up with wide eyed and asked "Are you *Garrett* Brown?" He was! And we talked a bit about steadicam and how freaking excited I was to meet him. He was so nice! So awesome!

    Here is a tip for Gh4 users: As you may know the Panasonic Gh4 isn't the best when it comes to low light, as it makes a lot of noise with high ISO. By combining the Sigma 18-35mm with aperture 1.8 and the Metabones speedbooster, you can film with aperture f1.2, which helps a lot. But that's not all: You probably know that shooting with shutterspeed 1/50 or 1/48 (depending on the framerate) gives you the best filmatic look. But if you struggle with dark shots and high ISO, try lowering the shutterspeed to 1/40 or 1/30. Actually I shot the tracking shot at 5:24 with shutterspeed 1/30. The reason for why I think it worked ok for that shot, is that the camera didn't wiggle that much (creating motion blur). So when you got aperture f1.2, shutterspeed 1/30 and ISO 800, you can shoot ok video even in low light :) But remember to avoid to much movement with the camera as 1/30 creates a lot more motion blur then 1/50. Good luck!

      +Andyax I have a question for you. I do urban exploration videos (abandoned houses) and im looking to buy a dslr no more than $700 preferably. I was thinking a T3i because its really cheap but it seems like unless u buy an aftermarket lens the footage looks like shit. I dont know the most about cameras but and help would be greatly appreciated. (also it has to film at least 1080p30fps min) Thanks!

    Of all the camera stabilizer UA-cam tutorials out there, this is by far the best. I too tried my hand at making one of these. The gimbal wasn't all that hard to make, but balancing is really the key to success. Trying to fabricate all the necessary mechanisms to accomplish that is what makes it much more than a weekend DIY project. With ready-made devices such as this one for under $50, it doesn't make sense to go it on your own.

    For those who have a digital camera like me (Sony a5000 or higher) Its easier to drop the stick all the way down and use one small weight, unless your lens are huge and heavy. I have a sony a5000 right now with a 35 mm lens. i have one weight in the back and I pushed the camera a little forward to balance it. So far, works really well. Thxxx. :)

    My first “steady” system was using a tripod with one leg slightly extended and my camera bag suspended from it for counterbalance. I held it with two fingers just below the camera mount and it worked ok. My second was a monopod half extended with my wife’s ankle weights wrapped at the bottom. Much smoother with the cylindrical foam hand area to manipulate as well as absorbing the more rough movements from my finger manipulation. I tried a diy using multiple hinges on a wooden frame, but it didn’t come out nearly a nice as your prototype shown here. Great video! I love your experimental movie. 😇

    Update: Looks like the price varies a lot from place to place. I bought mine at the IBC exhibition in Amsterdam, as mentioned in the video. There I had a conversation with the guys at Yelangu which had several types of steadicams and this one was one of the cheapest with a price tag of $50. This was back in September, and looks like they may have increased the price a bit. I will add a note to the video about it, however looks like the price is still very good. Here it is for $66, but how trustworthy is the site? www.sunsky-online.com/view/412363/YELANGU%20S60T%2060cm%20Carbon%20Fiber%20Handheld%20Stabilizer%20for%20DSLR%20Camera%20DV%20Black%20.htm

    • @cameronschmit6472
      @cameronschmit6472 4 роки тому +8

      With a steady cam you’re more likely to be using a wide-angle lens. The wide-angle doesn’t blur out the foreground or background completely like a more regular lens.

    Please inform me if I'm being stupid. My only excuse is that I'm a photographer, not a film maker. I also know the video is about the steadycam, but my question is about the test footage. How do you keep such sharp focus on a moving subject. I didn't see him go anywhere near the focus ring or have a follow focus attached to the lens. How? is there some magical continuous AF mode that I don't know about? Please help.

  • @69_MK

    I got this steadicam for use in wedding, promotional, etc. It is not the very ideal steadicam. There is a long balance time and it's not very smooth as I expect even with good operating. Also it becomes very heavy with a DSLR and a wide angle zoom.

    I just have to ask this... How the hell do you focus with a gimbal? It clearly can't be done manually, because touching the camera would put gimbal out of it's horizontal position... Does this mean, you are at the mercy of autofocus?

      I guess you've gotta shoot in hyperfocal and not touch it again until you're finished. Also not use autofocus or you may hear some bips during the shoot, so manual!

    I have this stabilizer and I'm struggling to get as smooth footage as you. The camera appears to be balanced properly, 2-3 second drop time, completely horizontal but it still shows tiny jerking motions from my hand and is prone to swinging. It seems stiff whenever it needs to either compensate for panning or when I want to intentionally pan the camera. Do anyone have suggestions in what I might be doing wrong?
    Setup is Canon 70d with either the 50mm 1.8 or 24mm 2.8, no mounted microphone.

    • @responsiblejerk2328
      @responsiblejerk2328 4 роки тому +1

      It takes a lot of practice and a few takes to get nice steady shots. Camera needs to be balanced really well and I like a bit more ballast weight (a quicker drop time, about 1 second) to compensate for roll. I have learned to be very conservative with the movements, and for only short durations.
