  • The Tough Reality of Prison Life | FD Crime
Watch 'Behind Bars - Complete Season | Brazil, Maldives, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Philippines, Ukraine' here: • World's Toughest Priso...
There is a gruesome fascination with prisons. From countless films and music and art, "Prison Culture" is embedded in our way of life. This documentary looks beyond the strange fascination with the infamy attached to prison tattoos, prison fashion, and gangs.
So, what is life behind bars really like? Beyond the projected glamor? What is it like to spend 23 hours a day locked in a cell? Or to have to share your meals with killers? This documentary shows us the people who are locked up; the individual human stories and how people cope with the things they've done, how they are trying to move on, and how they are trying to become 'better' people.

It's interesting to hear these folks talk about how terrible these experiences were for them. I keep thinking about the people they stabbed, shot, robbed, traumatized, assaulted, murdered and how much horror they inflicted on those victims and their loved ones. Many of those victims and their families had their lives ruined. I think I would rather hear their perspectives and make the perpetrators listen to them.

It's like when they appear in court, there's more concern they get a fair trial than their victims get fair justice.
It's always about the human rights of criminal and never about the human rights they deprived others of.

Nahh… ain’t gonna get no props from me. They weren’t supposed to go to prison in the 1st place. Undoing a negative impact is standard. If I steal your car, but return it 2 weeks later, I’m sure you’d be grateful, but that’s because you’d have already accepted that it was stolen. When in reality, I shouldn’t have stolen it in the 1st place. Perhaps I deserve a head nod & a handshake for returning the vehicle, but I shouldn’t get an ice cream party with cake, gifts, and an inflatable bouncy house.

@@macysondheimthat’s your opinion, not everything is black & white in life. Not all crimes are that of a violent or thievery/robbery nature, and though I agree with the general premise of personal accountability I also understand life doesn’t treat everyone the same. Not everyone has the outlet to avoid a life of crime, but most everyone has the opportunity to overcome mistakes and pay their debts to society. If you don’t think those who have done so deserve any respect at all, I feel sorry for your children/any youths in your network of friends and family. Your opinion isn’t unique, though, and it speaks to one of the many reasons the criminal justice system remains broken. There’s zero emphasis put on actual rehabilitation and all emphasis on punishment, which is fine if you want a society filled with former convicts who experienced nonstop hell during lockup… personally I’d rather live my life knowing people who have been given second chances have the right outlook to do so, not a distorted view of the society that deemed them irredeemable while at the same time letting them free…

This was outstanding, very helpful to watch. I have never been to prison, but memories of violence have haunted me always. All three of these very different people are highly intelligent, and sympa (sam-pah), as the French say. I'm no tough guy. I fought when I was a kid because I had no choice, but here I am, intact. Several of my friends didn't make it. And this from a time when guns on the street were not nearly as prevalent as they are today, unless you intentionally went to a rough neighborhood (or at least one rougher than your own).
    Great doc.

Very few people in life will admit they're a bad person. It's a great example of how we give ourselves endless considerations. Sadly we don't give this same considerations to others. This is probably why people are so quick to call others a bad person but rarely themselves.

The younger of the two white men is so articulate, it's hard to accept that he screwed up in life so badly. The older white guy lost my sympathy when he said he used to torture people. The Black man was also very articulate and seems like a nice guy. Terrific show.

Summer 2010 and lasted 4 months caught another case did another 1 year plus waiting for sentencing just as with all the cases u fo to county until you're sentenced and Missouri DOC when u do.... I went again In 2013 when I was 22 for 2.5 years.. my longest. Went again In 2016 parole violation with 4 months left did it all at Bonne Terre was released parole free. And then again. At 26 I did it again. 10 months more and 5 years probation. At 27 I was released haven't looked back. I'm 32 now. I don't know the total I think it's around 6 years with jail included and 5 visits to DOC Haven't been In trouble since thr last release JAN 4 2019.....all of It gave me patience. Acceptance of things u can't control. Tolerance as well you spend more time thinking which is good and are sober and healthy. Being intelligent does not determined if you will commit crimes or not. People get locked up because they have poor impulse control not because they are not intelligent. You can be a very intelligent person, but if you can't control yourself and let your adrenaline control your behaviors, then you will most likely ended up in prison.

The crazy 🤪 thing is how easy it is to be imprisoned.
In Georgia for example every speading violation is an offense that an officer can lock 🔐 you up for.
So you can literally be jsiled for doing 30 in a 25 mile zone.
    Unbelievable! 😶

Ok what about ppl who wait in jail before their trial longer then they would be sentenced to spend in prison if they just pleaded guilty… (everyone who can’t pay bail). They do time before they are even found guilty. Innocent until proven guilty with many asterisks attached

    • @Justin-sq7li
      @Justin-sq7li 8 місяців тому

Such a shallow comment that fails to understand the complexities behind ppl who commit crimes or those who are even accused. Like you can wind up doing time for a crime you are merely suspected of doing. How is that universally fair, how can you bat it off by just saying “oh do the crime do the time” it’s easy to say that when we j sit here on our phones watching yt but theoretically all it takes is being in the wrong place at the wrong time
