  • Dear friends
One of the most rewarding thing for being a UA-camr is to garner good viewership and subscriptions, also those encouraging appraisals from viewers in the comment section. However there were times when I felt dejected with bad comments like I sounded too long-winded for a food blogger. Generally my style is to talk about my past experience and introduce some history background. Like it or not, this has been the style I’ve adopted and I have no intention to change it. I know it’s impossible to please everyone but for those who doesn’t want to watch me for whatever reasons. Here’s a tip, you can still access my food recommendations by going to the google link which I’ve supplied. Meanwhile please go out and support the local street food. Thanks and see you in the next.

Hello! I have been watching UA-cam everyday since 2008, have never posted any comments but I am moved to share a few words of encouragement. I really enjoy the stories you weave into your recommendations, and I can vouch for the authenticity of most of them, a testament of your life experience as well as effort put into the research, unlike some UA-cam channels that don't verify the stories they tell, turning grapevine into perceived truth by the viewers. As for your style, you do you! :) My curiosity was piqued by your content/presentation when I first came across your videos so I did a bit of googling. I was surprised by your long and illustrious career, and so would those commenters, if they realised whom they are critiquing! You're too humble! :) So, please do not be disheartened by a few comments, and continue to share with us your love for food, together with the interesting stories. Thank you.

I cannot believe how rude some of your viewers are to you! I think your speed is absolutely fine- you're not in a rush and we're all here to enjoy the foodie experience through you. Thank you very much for another great video- we're definitely going to visit Bamboo Garden after seeing their yummy dishes! Also, thank you very much for the history lesson- I particularly enjoy these segments so please do keep up the good work! I imagine you have to put in a lot of hours off camera to research, edit, type up everything so again, thank you. Looking forward to your next video Elmo!

Hi Uncle Elmo, I've had Restaurant Bamboo Garden saved ever since seeing it featured here on your channel. I finally got to check it out.
We ordered a few dishes- fish head curry, kam heong lala, kung poh prawn and okra sambal. Every single dish was delicious, we really could not pick a winner. A really tasty dinner for very reasonable price.
Thank you very much for introducing us to this gem- we'll definitely be back!

Again- thank you Elmo for a great review on all the dishes savored at the Bamboo Restaurant. Secondly - the pace of your illustration in Cantonese is just nice and the words used to compliment the topic is appropriate and "my opinion" is accurate too. After watching your series- I always have a hungry pang ( especially now on Dai Pai Dong ) and just shows how good / well you have taken the time and initiative to record and edit the program for everyone interested to watch. Thanks Elmo.

I must say i like your style when you tell history of the place you are reviewing and you list the places at the end of the video. Something i have not seen in other chanel. Although I do not understand Cantonese. I do enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work. We can’t please everybody. I am sure a lot enjoy your work too.

Hi Elmo .. i did the biggest mistake in watching this at night because of your video , it has made me very hungry now .. LOL ! The dishes is indeed simple but it requires precise skills in preparing it making it a delicacy . On another note .. how you speak reflects your personality , so please remain true to your character ! Do not change for the sake of pleasing other . I ( and i am sure majority of your fans here as well ) enjoy watching your opening , your explanation of a dish , it's historical values and most importantly your honesty in the food review . We all know , your brutal truth is your opinion and your trademark . Keep it up !! Thanks again for the videos !

Elmo, I like the concept of your presentation with a little bit of history, keep it up. The way you speak is just nice, not too fast neither too slow. You are right, you cannot please everyone. About this salted egg taste, originate from SG? I am not too sure about that, everywhere I go, it is very common for me to order salted egg fried squid, it is such a common dish for many years. There are a few more popular dishes with salted egg taste, fried long beans and fried bitter gourd, etc. etc. I like salted egg taste very much.

Oh man, I bet there are many 60's or even 50's who wish they look as young as you. If I have to guess, I would have said 50 give or take. As for those people who were so rude about your mannerism, epecially the speed with which you speak, their lost. I don't know your background. From what I gathered, you are very well educated, worldly, and sophisticated, not a 'san pa lou. haha.'
Keep posting the videos, they are enjoyed and appreciated by many. Even though I live half a world away in North America and not likely to visit your recommendations, I still can live vicariously through you and the videos.

I have tried this restaurant but found the food so so only. Reason to come is only that food is served very fast and I ordered the exact same dishes as in your video. Most of the time to tell if curry fish is good apart from fish being fresh is that the curry will entice you to eat more rice but in my case the group of us who fancy curry did not feel the curry was enticing enough. The pineapple pork also didn't capture our attention nor the fried sotong. Thank you for your sharing however in this case, did not meet our taste bud.

I actually like your speaking speed. When I watch UA-cam video about food, I watch it cause it was relaxing. So, a fast speaking speed would defeat the purpose. There is a lot of Hong Kong UA-camr who introduce Hong Kong food and speak very fast in Cantonese. Eventually I lost interest in those channel.
Plus, I like your introduction at the start of your video which is usually about history. If you talk too fast, I have to rewind the video in order to understand the intro.

Indeed, another good example would be Chua Lam's 花花世界 where he doesn't speak too fast unlike younger canto folks.. in part due to his age and his roots as a 自己人.. they typically are more gentle while they speak

It's ok to have a surprise discount or maybe 1 or 2 extras on the house by the proprietor, but not being charged a single cent for a bill is over the line

Can I join your group next round. Your last budget @ Approx RM30.00 is ideal for me. I am 62 this year so our age diffeence is not too wide!

慢得有韵味 把节目内容娓娓道来 不缓不急 也许是那年轻人该放慢脚步 学会慢生活 现在的时代有点急躁了

Your videos are ok but would be better without your background narrative since its very distracting. You can easily share more information through descriptive texts. No insult intended.
