- A rare glimpse of the same bass rig, pedals and bass I used with The Firm and Blue Murder. I wish I'd gone into more detail, but it's nice to get a close up of the equipment from that era. The crazy characters on the amp reflected my stage persona at that time! And do you recognize the tune I played?
Awe so young , still fun loving and sweet , keep sharing and smiling ❤😊
Getting the close up and what makes the magic and tone possible is always a great insight to behold. An idea of how you manage and hold you own in the band within the grand scheme of things gives much inspiration. Cheers.
Truly appreciate that!
Cheers!
@@FretlessMonster Thank you! Likewise!
Ha, toured Canada in 89 with a Peavey Max head. Had to leave my Trace gear back in the UK but it was great.
Great playing & vid Tony. Thanks for sharing these.
Fantastic bass amps. Weigh a ton but a killer sound!
Lol, loved the ending. ❤👏👏⭐️
👏🏻😂😂
This was really awesome. I loved this. Cheers, Tony! ✌️
Thank you so much 😊👍🏻
Back in the early 90s, I was using a Peavey cab with an 18" and 2X10's, and that thing must have weighed 100lbs. Absolutely HATED loading in and out with that thing. Thanks for sharing this blast from the past! I really enjoy geeking out on getting to know what you guys were using.
Oh I’m very familiar with that. It’s the same cab on here. Massive - sound and weight!
@@FretlessMonster Awesome!! I can't recall what ever happened to that thing. I used to pair it sometimes with a Trace Elliott 4X10 on top. I really don't know why. It wasn't necessary in those small bars. We just used to get into "mine's bigger" battles. My rack was just as ludicrous.
Great stuff
Peavey had some great amps back in the 80's and 90's not sure how they've evolved since.
Thanks for sharing with us, all this classic footage is awesome!
Great solid gear. The Max was my only experience with Peavey. It sounded amazing. Plus I had the 1820 cabs. 1x18 and 2x10 speakers in one enclosure 🔥🤩
@@FretlessMonster Oh I had those same cabinets the 18's were the black widows from the 80's.
Those cabs were solid! And you were definitely heard in the mix!
Still have a basement full of USA-made Peavey bass gear and basses and I have a JayDee Roadie II on order and hope to have it in a year, proving that all things go full circle
Wow! Nice! You can’t go wrong with the classic gear.
Chattanooga Choo! 🏁
You got it!! 👍🏻🤩
Tony Franklin благодарю за удивительное исполнение на бас гитаре и увлекательный рассказ. поезд на чучу знаменитая композиция.
Thank you so much. And yes you are correct. Chattanooga Choo Choo 🚂
😂👏🏻
About that point in time I think I was also playing a Peavey Mk3 head. When it blew up I bought an Ampeg B25. I don't miss the Peavey but I wish I still had that B25!
Oh wow. I played Ampeg after Peavey too.
I bet that B25 was amazing.
@@FretlessMonster It had a very unique sound … not like an SVT but kinda in that family. The only problem is it was underpowered at 55W, especially given the material I was playing at the time (mostly quite heavy stuff).
I used a peavey mk IV in the eighties. Bass gear has come a long way since then
Not familiar with that specific rig. I only knew the Peavey Max, which was amazing.
I hope you post more pick playing. I had an accident and my middle finger, ring finger, and pinky are constantly numb now. I've always played with my fingers. I need to learn how to use a pick now. 🤷♀️🤷♀️💜🎸♾️
Wow. That’s no fun! Sorry to hear that.
There are lots of pick videos on here.. though I imagine you’ve probably see them. 🤷♂️🤪🤩💙 Let’s see what’s down the line.
@@FretlessMonster Thank you. Yeah, I have seen them. I need to refresh myself on the pick videos. I can't wait for some new lessons! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻♾️
Super cool , Tony !USA made Peavey gear was SO good.
Yes indeed. Although was the only Peavey gear I was familiar. So solid and sounded amazing.
Thank you Mr Tony , This time is a very topic I love the most. In The Firm era, we can see 3 head-amps behind Mr Tony. 2 are in the Flight cases( are they
Peavy?) And one more that looks like a Marshall . What is it ? Please tell identify it . Thank you.
Thanks so much. Those were the same Peavey heads (and cabinets). The Marshall was part Paul Rodgers’ guitar rig.
Thank you very much for your polite reply as always.
Chattanooga Choo Choo!
That’s right 👏🏻🤩

"Can be a life long relationship." And 33 years later it has been!
Those are interesting looking pickups. Are those still on it? (I'm thinking there is something different now.)
That’s right!
Those wooden encased pick ups are still on it. Though I recently sent them and all the electronics back to JayDee to be refurbished. I await patiently!
They are quite unique. If you look on the JayDee website, they’re still the same on tbt newer basses.
I see the problem … your bass is missing its vertical lines on the neck … 👀 *kidding* You’ve been such an inspiration to me throughout my career. Thank you TF
Haha. They are?? Thanks so much. 👏🏻🤩
I am curious as to the speaker cab. What`s inside?
There’s 1x18 and 2x10’s. Huge sound!
@@FretlessMonster I remember those!
They were beasts!!
Is that jay dee bass your playing?
Yes it is. I used it with The Firm and Blue Murder.
@@FretlessMonster I remember Mark King slapping the hell out of his Jay Dee bass in the 80s
What do you play with today?
I play my Fender Tony Franklin Fretless signature bass.
I tour with Lou Gramm of Foreigner, do recording sessions and many other things.
@@FretlessMonster running into what?
It’s usually backline rental gear.
Either a Fender Bassman Pro or an Ampeg SVT Classic.
Chattanooga Choo-Choo?
That’s right! 😊
I have those two pedals. Now theyre worth $500 for the pair
Wow. They sound great. I still have these.
Hold on to em
