Great work with the laser and the video MakerMan. I'm planning a build similar to yours but on a bit larger scale for my workshop. Also, it seems like there is some negativity in the comment section that is unnecessary. if you didn't like the music or the video content there is no need to be rude about it. Just don't watch it again. There are plenty of other videos out there. Do what your mother should have told you and keep you bad vibes to yourself. There are not a lot of people who can do what MakerMan is doing, and he didn't have to share his builds with anyone. Keep it light ladies and gentlemen and encourage imagination and intelligence. Not belittle it.
What an amazing job. Always thought my ingenuity was great but you surpassed my every limit. Don't hold back and be true to yourself, make beautiful things and be proud of what you do and who you are. Love to everyone.
Needs homing relays. I've also not have much luck with those particular stepper motor cards. They tend to get hot and burn up. I would have heat-sinked the chips on them and put a fan on the entire system.
Man, this laser is really capable of engraving stainless steel? I'm seriously thinking about buy. But the new version with smaller focus, does worth it? I'm planning to use it only for stainless steel?
Just wondering why you didn't use a core xy style? You could have had a lighter moving part as it would be only the weight of the laser and the printed part and only needed to use 2 stepper motors.
+Patrick Mckinnell yes true. But alot of pulley is required in core xy style. Plus I had a lot of stepper motor laying around, which I salvaged from old printers.
I operate 6000W Laser Machines at work and those have sensors for measuring where the material is relative to the available workspace. How do you do it with your machine? That engraving looked pretty perfectly centered. Did you mark the spot for the material on the bed and punched those numbers in the code, or how did you do that?
There's obviously no such thing here. He just places the material parallel to the work area and defines the origin point, my guess. How does the machine know where it is? Well, it must hard-coded.
Its very easy in the CAM program were you create the 0.0 zero spot you can put that zero in any corner of your desing , then you put your laser at low power only to see were is placed and tell the program that now that place (wherever you want) is Zero then start or run your code, I'm prety sure that is not so exactly centered but it works ,for very tiny works is dificult to do. Maybe its strange for you because industrial machines are made for prescision and thats why they have more steps to center a piece or desing. I´m from Mexico soo I'm not a natural english writer but I hope to explain just a bit your question.
Good job, but laser is very expressive. I built my own laser CNC (finished few weeks ago ) and I search laser protection window. What kind of material did you use ? (I mean yellow parts)
hmm that's weird, in the US the majority of rods i find in printers are imperial. I always measure with calipers to make sure its not just imperial thats close to metric.
@@lukecunningham8793 Well maybe the printers for selling in the US I'm from Mexico and all the printers have metric no matter if is HP or any famous brand , there is only 2 country's in the world that use imperial USA and other little country that I don't remember her name LOL but USA is one of the biggest consumer country's soo maybe that's why they made with different specifications
Nice work man ! loving the custom circuit . you could get a Grbl shield and arduino uno for around £5.00 from china which would mean you could add a Z axis and use it as a mini cnc.
Hello, this project is Amazing ;) I tried to download Print files but I can't open it. I try with Win Rar but when I open the files I didn't find 3d models. Can you help me please?
Eh, isn't it too cold in England to work in the shop wearing only pajamas and flip-flops? :P Otherwise the video is really good and the project came out awesome. Too bad that I have to side with the people who say that the laser module is a rip-off (probably assembled in Poland from parts made by China, thus the price is ridiculous). But that's not your fault.
Oh, that would explain the flip-flops, yeah :) I was convinced that you're in the UK because of the wall outlets you have. I thought that they only have that style in the UK.
some people can think that the laser is a rip-off but it is made with quality parts and with japanese nichia laser diodes, its a very well done laser module, you can achieve this results with less money buying the laser diode , the optics, psu a laser driver but not for less than 160usd and still need to build a good aluminium body for thermal stability , they have a model with an array of 3 diodes concentrated with crazy optics the chinese don't even bother to copy that stuff because it cant be made with cheap parts. Sorry if there some bad writing I'm from Mexico :P
I subscribed to this channel believing I would hear the builder's thoughts, ideas, hints and tricks. Sadly, the two videos I tried to watch, only were accompanied by music. Sad, when I learn more about the build from the description of the video, than from the video, itself. Unsubscribed.

I have placed a fan on top those chips. Its been fine for me.
Great video and project! I have the same laser and love it. I'm curious what gcode generator you're using?
+Adam Peterson thanks buddy.

Yes it's a good laser. Check out their website.
A 6 watt diode laser is very tempting. Do they ever go bad?
No it's of very high quality, not like Chinese laser.
Hello, what about electronics? How did you calibrate steps/mm? Could you make a video please?

Hello! great video.
I have a question, witch kind of metal and what about the thickness please
Super impressive build!!!
Thanks buddy
That's a pretty interesting design, well thought out and dead simple. A+
+Arsenio Dev thanks buddy
Hi makerman, do you make the laminated wooden panels in all your projects or buy them?
+timewarp007 I buy them
Do you drive both y axis motors with the same driver?
+Ole Brinch yes
Why did not you use the core xy system? you could save an motor
I have a lot stepper motor that I salvaged. This was much easier to do this way.
What material did you make the enclosure out of? Great video!
+David Snyder aluminum cladding
Can this cut tru tv lcd panel ?
Amazing as always!

I don't recall the model number.
But here we say yellow florecent acrylic
MakerMan do you remember where did you buy it ? It was expensive ?
+Cyril Klam jtechphotonics.com/?product=445nm-laser-shielding.
I got it locally for free from a friend.
Thank ;)
Hi good work. Printer Gcode or stl ?
Gcode
MakerMan. Link Gcode. ?
U generate gcode from webgrbl
ok thanks
The laser looks like you bought it like that, looks great
Sir use nema17 on this machine so i have to know the how much torque motor you used plzzz reply soon as possible

good work ,could you tell me the type of arduino bord please
+yasmin yousef Arduino nano
Does this have a interlock?
+DJ meaning ?
+DJ u mean clam the engraving object. Yes magnet
+DJ u mean clam the engraving object. Yes magnet
Where did you get the green safety filter material? I would like to build a similar enclosure for my violet laser engraver.
+Chris Lueking this a florecent acrylic
+MakerMan oh I see. Does it work to filter the light or are safety glasses still required?
+Chris Lueking no safety glasses are required but be careful while opening and closing the door of the laser CNC.
Do you have a tutorial on how to make this machine?
+ABRAHAM RANE no. It was a go with the flow project.
Sir which stepper motor you are used in this cnc machine
Nema 17
who care about the music this man is a amazing
+SUPER NITRO heheh. U r amazing for ur awesome comment.
Are those rods 8mm or 5/16 inch. The lm8uus don't work on 5/16 and they are very similarly sized. 8mm is 8.00mm while 5/16 is 7.92mm
all the printers are made with mm parts, it is rare to found imperial unids on these rods

It's not engrave metal . It's only engrave plastic ,ply and woor
It will engraves on certain metal, go to there website optlaser to see the list with pictures.
He's just burning the paint off the metal. Not engraving the metal at all.
