- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- In this video Rick Shiels PGA golf professional tees it up at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.
Royal Portrush is the host venue for this years (2019) Open Championship and Rick heads out to play the famous course as part of The Open Links Invitational.
Rick plays the exact same links that Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and the rest of the PGA Tour and European Tour stars will play this week for the 148th Open Championship. Who will win the 4th and final major of the season and take home the claret jug?

Which is your *favourite* of golf’s majors?
Masters
To hard
The open or masters what is yours
Rick Shiels Golf the masters for sure I went in 2017 and it was the best
Masters
Congrats on winning closest to the pin. Had me beat only by 40 yards.
Brodie Smith Golf lol
😂
You two should collab!!
Collab pls
Saw your chip in Brodie, hats off to the camera gal suffering the balmy weather 😁 you had during your round.
BEST. VIDEO. EVER. MADE! So thankful for the opportunity to meet you & play 9 holes with you too. Really grateful for the head cover you gave me too, when you won nearest the pin. Really hope we get the opportunity to play a round of golf together again. Keep up the great golf videos & take care.
Thanks so much Joshua! Great to meet you and your Dad!!!! 👍👍👍💪💪
That's a proper young lad right there. Good on ya.
You played great Joshua hope to see you with the stars one day! Good luck
Class act.
And you, young Marshall, we shall watch your career with great interest.
Rick, always great to play with you, great shot on 13 and look forward to the next one.. E
LOL at Conor's impressions. They're so good. Seems to be like a fun person to be around.
What a class act the head pro is. Instead of talking about how great his course is, he talks about the region and the amazing courses. Nothing but class. Hope I can make it over to the UK to play one day
Rick without a doubt the no1 golf tutor/,blogger ever. Keep inspiring people to get out there and play.
" I think Tiger will do it"
*+6*
Tiger: Conditions were rilly, rilly tuf out there"
J C beggy
Eric Anders Lang is for sure the coolest man in golf. You're alright too though Rick
Played Port Stewart not far from there and stayed in Coleraine. Absolutely love Northern Ireland. The heather was unbelievable. It rained, sleeted, fog rolled in and then the sun came out on the front nine and repeated on the back. Great time. Also helped replant sea grass on the dunes at Royal Port Rush. Great trip.
That Tiger impression is rully, rully good.
I think i like Connors Molinari impression the best. Lol had me cracking up
Hey Rick! I have watched the vlogs of several content creators who were at this event....Yours is head and shoulders above all the rest. Thanks for the generous, non ego-centric view that really captures the excitement and majesty of the upcoming Open Championship, which over the years has become this American duffer’s favorite Major. I really appreciate your take! Also really loved watching the swing of that future champion - young Josh....Well done, brother!
Totally agree with everything you said. Love how Rick's video are not all about Rick.... a real mark of the man.
Thanks for your comment about Joshua. He had a great time and absolutely loves his golf. Best wishes to you.
@@andrewmarshall2049 That kid of yours has an exceptional swing for his age. I hope the interest remains in the game for many years to come. He impressed me greatly in this video.
No Peter Finch there?! Blasphemy. Complete blasphemy.
Agreed
Perhaps he was invited but couldn't make it?
Brilliant just brilliant probably one of my favourite vids Rick
it's gid to see how the other half live, privileged to hit old clubs that don't give much give, rain coming down and not through a sieve, it always rains in Ireland in the west were they live, great video, young kid has great potential full of life, his commitment he gives his future looks bright!
Spot on Tiger impression by Conor. Great video as always Rick. My favorite major is The Masters. Being from Georgia, I loved it when April would come around and The Masters commercials would come on. I wish and hope on day I can go to Augusta National, feel the grass, and see "Heaven on Earth."
Your dream can become reality, just as soon as you're willing to dish out the cash required to play there lol. It's like $400 to play a round at Sawgrass, I can't imagine what Augusta must be.
Cannot be done. Augusta National is invitation only unless you are a member; which is also by invitation only :)
@@JadePrism I looked it up after I said that because it got me thinking. They says 10,000 bucks a year, plus a hefty, 125,000 signing fee. Basically only multimillionaires can play it unless you're on tour, in which case, I repeat myself. Lol
Great video , getting to play with so many legends in one round. Rory, Tiger, Poulter!!
Good day out, good company, Lots of banter, mixed fortunes. What golf is all about. Great to see the young ones being encouraged too.
Being a GreensKeeper when I was younger has made it hard for me to enjoy watching these guys when I keep seeing sod flying hit after hit.. In thinking how long it'll take to repair itself! 🤔💭🤦♂️😉😂
I played Royal Portrush as part of a 12 day, 15 course trip to Ireland and Northern Ireland two years ago. The head pro is right: Northern Ireland has more than a few magnificent courses. Port Stewart, Castlerock, Ardglass, Lough Erne...all great.
Better still were the people I met there. Wonderful, warm, friendly. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Sounds wonderful!! :-)
@@davidjohn7510 As an American, and knowing little about Northern Ireland other than the Troubles, it was truly a delightful place. Beautiful countryside, good food (and beer!), and friends people. Oh, and great golf. What more do you need?
Thanks for setting the mood for this upcoming "OPEN"! Looking forward to all of the cool competitive drama. Royal Portrush looks absolutely great!
Love the videos man. The driving video in the 3 part or 5 part helped me shoot in the 70's my last round out because I was actually keeping the ball in the fairway. Usually I'm in low to mid 80's. Again, I appreciate the help.
Great video! Thanks for showing the other golfers in your groups and not just you. You obviously work to bring it the best in the rest. Thanks Rick!
Alexandra's laugh......I bloody love it. Fairways and Greens Rick!!!!!
The guy at 7:41 was a course guide for me and my team mates when we played against a team from Portrush in March. He was a great help 👍
This is my favourite golf vidio of Rick shiels golf. Thanks rick
Watching your videos got me interested in golf , played for the second time yesterday and I love it already
That’s AMAZING!
I'm not a pro, but I will say don't fall for the gear trap. Just play with what gear feels the best and you shoot the best.
@@theroachden6195 my dad used to play but he doesn't anymore so he gave me his clubs , they are pretty good clubs for a beginner so I will probably just keep them for a long while
I dont think you need to approach gear as a trap..i vote for dress for success...dont need new clubs every year..or even every 5 years...but..fit your gokf baf for success...golf is so mental that it actually can make a difference
@@gtaylor9218 what would be a good amount of shots for a 9 hole ? I got 53 last time I played , I thought that was ok for second time playing
Why is there always an epic sunset whenever you’re with EAL?!
Great vid Rick - Lancashire Represent! (Chorley 😁)
Is it just me or does the head pro sound exactly like David Feherty?
I was thinking the same thing
They’re both from similar area. Port rush is only an hour away from the town feherty is from.
and liam neeson
haha he does
I had this on in the back ground and said how does David have enough time to be a head pro lol
That last hole into the grand stands was absolutely beautiful, even with the rain. Thanks for the vid showing off this place, might have to add this one to my upcoming travel plans.
You won't regret it, and make sure you drive the Antrim Coast Road - stunning.
11:55 That's the sweetest sound in all of golf right there
Little man rocking the Open paint job and the Friends bedsheets. Legend.
Zach Pershin Thanks 🙌🏻
What a fantastic event for all involved. Great for fans, golfers and the country as a whole.
Sorry about the weather on final day, it emptied out of the skies as usual. 4 seasons in one hour!!!
P.s my wife and I got the chance to stand on the 6th with no-one else and every player was so friendly and talked away.
great video Rick. I love when you do course vlogs. my favorite major is the the masters. just love how the venue never changes. GREATEST sporting event in the world.
One of my favorites videos you’ve done! Love your content man! Making my game better here
Love every minute of your video! You guys are so lucky. On the final day, the pro did play and parred 18! Everybody cheered! We also cheered when the young green keepers got his kodos for cutting the holes! Beautiful venue. Thank you Rick!
Challenge: a successful golf outing, 9 holes is fine, with only a driver, putter and any 2 irons you want. My dad says in a pinch, that's all you need. The airlines misplaced his bag and his buddy lent him a driver, putter, 3 & 9 iron, and he was surprised that he did pretty well on 9 holes. Hope you give it a try, good luck if you do. I'd love to see it.
I’ve been watching more golf videos in general lately and it’s really cool to see so many of them together.
1:Masters
2:the Open
3: US open
4:pga
You peaked with this video Rick. Sincerely loved it. Good thing there is still so many summits ahead of you!
Thanks so much!
My list goes the masters, the open, the us open, and then the PGA.
Palmer Wright Ryder cup??
josh daniel I’d put it in between the masters and the open simply because of the hype and passion behind the event
Palmer, you like men.
Blake Skoumal i agree
that's the correct list
We played Rosapenna, Portsalon and Ballyliffin a few years ago. Some of the most beautiful courses I've ever played.
Portsalon is a nice golf course. 👍
Lovely course, especially when very windy. Definitely one of my favourites
Thanks for this. Course looks fantastic! Looking 4ward to a great open.
Really enjoyed this one Rick.
My good friend Crusty and I played in the Bushmills Classic in about 1995. The day we played Portrush we played 18 holes in the morning then we played another 2 1/2 rounds in the afternoon/ evening. We were exhausted but very 😃
Would be fun to see a match play between you and Brodie Smith
ssjadam probably not, but that might make the video on Brodies channel even funnier
would have been fun if they where paird up for this
ssjadam he plays off plus 2 tho
He would stand a chance?? He’s playing off +2.
@ssjadam i was suprised w his round at portrush.he wasnt acting and sounding like a fool...and he looked like a decent player honestly..prior to that i had never seen him play well...to be fair have only tried to make it through a couple of his vids
GREAT video once again Rick.
For me, it's a toss up between the US open and the Open. I'm from the states, so the US open is near and dear to the heart, but, I love the history and the challenges that each and every Open Championship brings.
I love these kinds of videos (essentially a preview of what's to come in a few days with the pros). I also love to see you and the others just having some fun.
B.T.W.. That's my favorite type of weather. I'll take cool and rainy over the hot and sweaty any day.
Tiger impression was brilliant!
Everyone's swing is really good but Rick your swing is a notch above the rest. Such perfect weight distribution, something that can be really hard to teach.
I found it dude
A great video and then EAL and Alex rock up at the 10th, one of the coolest golfing couples there is. Gold.
I've come back and watch this a couple times because this round looked like such a great time.
Played there about 3 years ago. Amazing scenery!! Beautiful golf course. Calamity Corner was the 14th at the time
Used to caddie here as a kid - when caddies were simply bag carriers (50/60p a round - in the early 70s). Wonderful golf course.
I was lucky enough to be stationed in N Ireland and got too play portrush on a number of occasions. Probably the best course I’ve ever played
My favourite open was way back in 1980 at Muirfield,i was in college and landed a job in the hospitality tents.i served the great Tom Watson and got his autograph but only by asking Jimmy Tarbuck as i did'nt have the bottle to ask him!!.Still have it today
Great videos as always Rick. Calm, enjoyable and well edited as always.
We gotta know Rick, what did you shoot?
brilliant film Rick, laughed all way through it!!!
What a treat to watch!! Thank you!
5:20 I bet he is regretting saying that tiger will win it after round 1 today😂😂
Conner Cracked me up and the Young one had a nice Stroke on Him.
And of Course Ya did it with Style and Shared it with us.
Amazing. Looking like a damp Open. As an American I have to say only a Euro can play in those elements. Looking forward to seeing it!!
Course looks like a BLAST! Looks like a chess board of club choices versus grip & rip which is so cool
"Let's go and get dry" "Drunk". YES! Thanks Rick!
What an awesome experience! Getting to play with Ian and Tiger too! 😂😂😂😂
You and gm golf are why I am good at golf you all taught me a lot of tips
who else here was just impressed by that kids pure swing
Conor had prophetic powers at the Tiger Woods impersonation - OMG.
You need to post more Rick!!!! You're keeping me waiting to long, not fair.
Dude you are bloody amazing. I dont even play golf and I cant stop watching your videos. Been to the driving range a few times with my dad and when I actually hit the ball I slice like a mofo.
That impression of Tiger, brilliant!
Hey Rick loved the video. I’m from Portrush myself and it’s crazy seeing all the pros and youtubers like yourself around my hometown. Would be nice to run into you at some point whilst you’re over here. I hope you all enjoy the scenery and the weather isn’t too bad the rest of the week 😅.
I seen him today had chat was saying about this video going up real down to earth guy
Best video you've done yet.
Thanks so much
Love watching this round from yours, eal, and Brodie channel. Awesome to see it from all angles
🙏
Great video. So excited for the Open to begin, and chuffed for the people of N.I that it's happening.
Really enjoy watching your videos Rick a person can really feel your positive energy through them great job 👍🏼 Tiger is my favourite but I’m feeling Rory for this one I think we’re gonna see something very special outa him this week
That Tiger impression was spot on!
Great video Rick! I love Royal Portrush. In my opinion the greatest open venue!!!
Hey Rick. High handicapper in Canada here. Getting lower. Thanks for all the tips. Great advice. Great presenter.
Watching this again after almost two years and I’m reminder just how mad the music was. 🤣🤣🤣 Love the channel... bad man that music was bad in this one.
You are one lucky lucky man Mr S - 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
You need to have a fourball with Connor, Aelxandra and Erik at Carnoustie / Birkdale !!!💪💪💪👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂
That was awesome. Thanks Rick!
One of the best videos you have ever done. Amazing
Can't wait to play on that part of the world. Looks amazing. The tour players will have their hamds full this week
Great coverage, im playing it on Friday can't wait!!
Put a cap on my head....lol I thought I would give it a shot on your channel as well. love you two.
Beautiful, challenging course...love Ireland
Was on the course when i got the notification saying this video was out!was not disappointed!
What a tremendous venue!!! Great video Rick. Even though i'm from the US i have to say that the Open even slightly edges out the Masters as my favorite tourney of the year. True test of golf and the elements. Plus i think the R&A is a better governing body than the PGA. Can't wait!!! I think Rory has a big week!!
Hands down, your videos are the best!
Swing is looking great.
The tiger impression was spot on.
The open is what got me into golf too!
I live in Augusta Ga, I work a good seven iron shot from the Augusta National and I can tell you, cold weather beats hot weather hands down. I dont know if you guys have ever felt real hot weather or not but when I got in my car yesterday at 4:30 PM it was 109F on the outside and probably 159F inside my car. Combine that with super high humidity and trust me, you wouldn't have a hard time finding a tee time around here right now.
The gentleman Mr Shiels living the dream.
Excellent video as always. Such nice people in Ireland
Really enjoyed the video, beautiful course and was fun to watch everyone having such a good time!
Great to meet yourself, Matt and Erik on Tuesday though it did look like you three were plotting something big!!
I prefer the open then the Masters.
Love these types of videos. Thanks, Rick!
You had a great putting green I love it when you play with Erik Lang he is cool and you guys make a good grouping
