I really appreciate your awareness that Doctors absolutely have energy/emotion reactions to interacting with their clients and all others. Any Doc worth their weight knows that!!!!
Very insightful video. A basic psychiatric/neurological is an integral part of any medical exam. Especially in ophthalmology/optometry, where subjective data carries a lot of weight. Great skills to have in your pocket
It's funny as the doctor sets it up by talking about thought disorders, delusions etc "does A connect to B...is there something wrong with the thought process or content" then asks his patient about where he came from, and his patient has a smile on his face, like he is going to be accused of being a nutjob with his answers "I left California because there are aliens eating the McDonalds there and all the Monkeys who have the solution are hidden in caves in Boston"

Autumn, also known as fall in North American English, is one of the four temperate seasons. Autumn marks the transition from summer to winter, in September (Northern Hemisphere) or March (Southern Hemisphere), when the duration of daylight becomes noticeably shorter and the temperature cools considerably.
I don't know about this business of assessing mood by how the assessor feels around the patient. That seems more like having poor emotional boundaries and you could be very, very wrong.
Help me sir serveral years ago I found out I wasn't African American and the people I thought was my were not sir I agreed O never fitted in with these people at all I left and thought were going to be mutual sir these people are some complete psychos I can't escape them I'm all alone Sir I am dying all they do is yell and scream at follow me stalk O need a way out please O need somebody to talk too they keep putting hits out me then sir these people in this city and them cursed me sir to death according to the movie possession they cursed me they been sabbotging me since I have been born used me for my laguage, hair, body and made people I don't know who I am or where I belong, I dont belong here I'm abused sir these women and this family is killing me I am missing from somewhere I hAve been pronounced dead four times and they said hospice outside. another worry is my Disabilty sir I have bipolar so bad all I do is worry about it is it coming, did I do something wrong I start that a week prior I'm starting now sir please help me understand this I speak a foreign language my tongue has been tied down my whole life and now it's lifting it use to be so painful help me sir please
Pseudoscience. Not every human is unintelligent and unaware of themselves. Most people can tell when their doctors are faking their emotions, for instance, and judging their patients, seeking out some abnormality. It's actually quite annoying to be judged.
I think it’s supposed to be easy; when you fail a simple task and perhaps fail another simple task it can flag something isn’t right which will prompt more intensive examination. Course this is just what I assume, I don’t actually know.
The doctor explains pretty thoroughly what this is testing. It's easy for you because you are presumably healthy. If any of these things are hard that could indicate a neurological or psychiatric condition. Personally I have ADHD and I would have trouble with the questions involving short term memory such as the date or remembering the 3 words. I also have autism, and even though I personally don't struggle with it, it is common for people on the spectrum to display a flat or incongruent affect so it's conceivable that someone like me could fail the mental status exam.
This doctor seems like the type of guy that if he was a dad he would yell at his kids for getting a C and take away their allowance if they didnt participate in the family game day challenges.
I love doctors like this. I wish they were all like this.
Exactly !!!!!
White?
Right? Just a calming presence that makes jokes and actually cares about patients.
@@Gee-Cee was that necessary?
Doc: What were those three words that I asked you to memorize?
Me: Chevrolet, zebra and honesty
This man seems like a very thorough excellent doctor. Very informative !
His the Best!
“This all depends on you being normal” Mission Failed
This man is a straight up genius. Empathetic and extraordinarily knowledgeable. He must have worked so hard to get to this point.
"it was written correctly, the language in it was correctly"

Extremely helpful to understand neurological examination, thank you for sharing this video.
RIP Dr. Samuels. Such a great teacher and communicator, and in his field of work as well of course.
I was dreading this. I saw his commencement speech a few years ago and he looked bad. RIP to another fallen legend
What a brilliant video.
It'd probably take me a while to subtract the sevens lol
DRE PLUS substracting sevens.
Blaine I accidentally subtracted 10s 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻♀️💀
I'd stil be sitting there to this day
Perfect overview for my 3rd year psych clerkship... Thank you! I wish more clinicians/professors could explain these concepts as clearly as you do.
The World needs more Doctor like this.
I really appreciate your awareness that Doctors absolutely have energy/emotion reactions to interacting with their clients and all others. Any Doc worth their weight knows that!!!!
The best video that I have ever seen regarding the mental status examination. Thank you.
I like this guy. Any more of him?
Good teachers tell you what. Great teachers explain why.
This video is very education
Thank you so much, I have watched from the start to the end and indeed this is good information. Juma Kalyegira Clinical Psyhologist from Uganda.
I see you have access to the McGraw Hill videos. Can you upload another please?
Very insightful video. A basic psychiatric/neurological is an integral part of any medical exam. Especially in ophthalmology/optometry, where subjective data carries a lot of weight.
Great skills to have in your pocket
Doctor has a very good sense of humor.
Wouldn’t mind him being my doctor for his good bedside manner.
Today I learnt that not all countries start their seasons on the first of the month.
Thank you for sharing this video.
Excellent teaching skills.

Such an effective teacher. Excellent.
19:01 “the language in it is correctly”
This videos basically covers "Mini-Mental State Examination", not the "Mental State Examination".
This guys a good clinician!
his glottal shock when he says "mental" drives me crazy
Is it bad that the first sentence that came to my mind was "Dogs bark at trees." I have zero clue why that came to my head but it did.
good teacher
Guys his son Casey is almost 11 now
The clapping is the best!

What if the person was from a different country when you give the mental exam
failed at the first question. (which day is this, with lebowski's voice)
The smoking demonstration was interesting... hmmm. Observation skills getting stronger. lol
Teaching hospitals have the best physicians
I like the plug he gave the Three Stooges!
good on you bruh, thanks for uploading !
Patient is correct for Meteorological Winter, Dr is referring to Astrological Winter. That question is ambiguous and should be clarified or avoided.
Lol does it really matter?
How important is the mental exam? My Dr will only do video however I need papers done
Depends on what the exam is for.
I have the same clock on my wall.
this video is gold, thanks
Chevrolet, zebra and honesty
12th of December is winter ...
After the Rams, LA had the Raiders. #notarealfootballfan
I didn’t get it, why is it fall?If it is 12th of December that might be winter. what’s wrong?
Autumn, also known as fall in North American English, is one of the four temperate seasons. Autumn marks the transition from summer to winter, in September (Northern Hemisphere) or March (Southern Hemisphere), when the duration of daylight becomes noticeably shorter and the temperature cools considerably.
The Clock!!
what if English second language for the client? This spelling test and can be difficult for his client. Even understanding doctors accent.
That guy sitting there so still makes me anxious
Winter has three months: Dec, Jan and Feb... the doc implies wrong definition of seasons
Winter starts on December 21st. On the winter solstice.
December is not a winter month??????
Winter doesn't actually start until December 21st, which this video happens before.
I don't know about this business of assessing mood by how the assessor feels around the patient. That seems more like having poor emotional boundaries and you could be very, very wrong.
I think the term is called 'transference' and is commonly used in psychology. Maybe it's not too effective with just 5 minutes of assessment
He looks like a young version of Leonardo Dicaprio
ExploringWithBorcha who the old guy or the patient?
@@muffychao2373 lmao good question because neither looks anything like leo
I think ot seems the doctor is in Boston MA
Assess my mental status???
In two digits. 4Q
Or maybe the middle digit
A horse is a horse of course of course
The doctor uses Professor Irvin Yaloms language
This doctor is SO nervous, he makes me feel nervous
Don't act on it. Never act on it.
haha
How you feel that is not relevant
Dont need a doctor to tell me that I'm insane
Cervix Crusader Sorry dad
Next time i'm pulling out the big one
I'm just here to see how bad my mental health is, like I know it's BAD, but I wanna know HOW bad lol

he forgot to mention nurses :)
No, no, no, this is not any kind of mse
Mood assessment is about them not you
Can't really do the smile wearing a mask.
They still do this test in 2024. Nothing has evolved
I mean if it works, then does it have to be changed?

Introduction is way too long.
Anyone else really irritated/annoyed by the proximity of the pencil to the patient - although it is exacerbated by the camera angle.
Dennis put it there on purpose mac
Adam Mouse yessss
