  • The fastest foul out in NBA history. Don Nelson comes up with a strategy to stop the Bulls by sending out Bubba Wells to Hack-a-Rodman. Dennis though makes 9 out of the 12 free throws. Bubba Wells sets a new NBA record for fewest minutes played before fouling out.

    You can see that Rodman just didn't care about scoring. All he wanted to do was defend and rebound. The lack of effort he had in his first few attempts, compared to the actual form he started using once he realized what was happening is so obvious.
    He was awesome.

    • @VampireYoshi
      @VampireYoshi 9 років тому +6

      The announcers are correct, and its the officials who were wrong. "Under NBA rules, if an Off-the-Ball Foul is committed in the last 2 minutes of the Final Period against a player who is not in possession of the ball and is making no attempt to receive, or get in position to receive the ball; the player who was fouled will shoot 2 Free Throws, and their team will regain possession following the shots, regardless of the number of Team Fouls the team of the player who fouled possesses. They will then inbound the ball from the sideline."
      Wells should've been ineligible to continue playing after the second off-the-ball foul.

    Dennis was two assists away from a triple double. 11 points, 27 rebounds and 8 assists. Shame he couldn't get one that night. It would have been quite an 'in your face' moment for Nelson and the Mavericks. They lost, but had Dennis gotten that triple double, it would have been a double carma.

    I gotta hand it to Nellie. The "Hack-a-Rodman" may not have worked like he planned but two years later he got a lot of other coaches to follow him when he tried the "Hack-a-Shaq" on O'Neal. lol

    That was probably the dumbest thing Don Nelson has ever done :-D
    Every freethrow he made got the crowd going and after Michael walked to him at 2:04 he focused on making the next ones, which he did.
    John Salley said it once in an interview...Dennis was a good shooter, but he sometimes overacted with his "how did I do this" behavior after a successful, simple shot. He just didn't give a damn, because the Bulls had enough shooters - he did his thing: rebounding and defense

    Seriously Dennis rodman is so damn underated, he averaged crazy rebound number not seen since the days of Wilt Chamberlain and Bill russell at on 6'7'' and took absolute pride in the games where he didn't score one point. He could've been an all round player if he didn't want more the attitude and show man ship but he was an absoulutely team player. Seriously Dwight Howard (27 years old) led this year with only 12 RB a game, Rodman at that age was doing 18 rb a season for 7 seasons straight.

      1:10 Rodman was shooting 38.6% at the time. Don Nelson figured that if Rodman shoots FT's instead of letting the Bulls get a field goal attempt, it worked in Dallas' favor. It happened to backfire this game because Rodman hit a respectable percentage that game.
      Basically, this was one of the Hack-a-Shaq precursors.

    Bubba Wells holds the dubious distinction of being the player with the quickest disqualification due to personal fouls in an NBA regular season game. In a December 29, 1997 game against the Chicago Bulls, then-Mavericks coach Don Nelson employed a desperate tactic to limit the Bulls' offense. He inserted Wells into the game with the express purpose of fouling power forward Dennis Rodman, a notoriously poor free throw shooter, away from the ball.

    • @FilipoSooaUlufale

      X/XXV/ MCMXCI Bubba Wells would’ve made a long term replacement for Michael Jordan as the team’s top SG in 98-99. A starting lineup of Ron Harper, Bubba Wells, Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman and Toni Kukoc and would’ve made a difference, with or without MJ and Pippen.
      Oh, the irony of seeing Bubba Wells and Dennis Rodman on the same team for Chicago.
