Thank you for making this “mini documentary” of your trip back to China. My daughter was born in Sweden during corona period. She’s two and a half now and hasn’t met her grandparents in China yet. With current situation in China, we don’t know when we can plan our trip. I totally understand what you have gone through, you have a great heart and tremendous resilience in maintaining the relationship!

I was lucky enough to get a working visa to enter China but now I’m stuck in China and have no Idea when I will visit my family in Mexico again. The sacrifices we have to make as international couples are just .. heartbreaking.

    One advice for future travels:
Look for indirect flights. Check which countries you can fly to from your country (e.g. Sweden) and from which countries you can fly from (e.g. into China). You may have to buy separate tickets for each destination. Of course, the expenses go higher but you don’t have to wait for a year.

This made me cry 😭 i’m a Finn, married to an Indian guy and living in India, and I can so well relate to all these feelings, anxiety and grief. It’s way too difficult for my husband to get a visa especially a long-term one to Finland and currently I’m in a situation where I’ve been waiting for my own visa extension for 8 months already and can’t exit India without a valid visa or an exit permit in which case I wouldnt even know if I’d be able to return. All the while waiting for a permanent spouse visa which I was supposed to get last year already… I have only spent one month in my native country and with family in the 3 years which is all the more heartbreaking since we had our first child in Feb 2021.
I’m so happy you’re slowly making a comeback. I love your videos, they’re a huge comfort and inspiration ❤️

Best wishes for a wonderful time back in your China home. Your family in Sweden will miss you, but it's your China family's time now - especially to get to know Lian. Much love and hugs from Canada! I am a mixed couples son :) My parents had many hurdles on their way, at that time the iron curtain was separating the world and my mother was an East German citizen and my father a foreign studen in Eastern Germany. But thanks to their patience and endurement through paperwork and lots of bureucracy they managed to go to my fathers country and settle there ... so there I saw the light of this world 😉 I grew up in three cultures, the andean culture with our indian language, the latino culture and from my mother I learned german. We even managed as a family during the cold war to go for vacacions to the GDR, at that time quite an adventure with three children and those hours and hours of control at the border between eastern and western Germany. But thanks to this back ground story I had much curiosity about the world and travelled and lived in many places....... So Miriam, you are giving your children a big gift, they are truly blessed... Wish you and your family all the best.

So glad you guys managed to go back to China safely! I'd received a tremendous amount of emotional support from your videos early last year when my then fiance and I had to live apart in 2 different countries - him in Japan and me in Singapore as he lost his job in Singapore and couldn't find another before his visa expired. We took the risk last year too when the quarantine in Singapore got extended from 14 to 21 days and his initial flight got rescheduled, meaning he had to cancel the flight to book another airline so he could come into Singapore within the stipulated period. We're now married so he has a proper visa to stay here without having to worry of the possibility of having to leave the country if he ever lose his job again. The 5 months apart and 3 months prior where he was frantically trying to find a job was really tough so I can only imagine the mental and emotional toll this process must have taken on you. I really enjoy watching the videos of you and your mother-in-law these days! :)

It's so wonderful catching up with your story, Miriam. The kids have grown so much and I loved seeing Mother-in-Law and you cooking again. Finally home with family. It's been a long time in coming. Thank you for the excellent & happy update. 🥰

I had a similar situation. My husband is from another country and we had many hoops to jump through and a lot of money spent. But thankfully it was finished in 2017 before covid otherwise we may still be dealing with it. With covid and work and lack of funds to travel, he has not been back to see his parents since then. But we are happy to be together.

I’m from Xining, my husband is American. We live in the states now. Due to covid, I haven’t been back to China for 3 years. I’m the only child in my family. My grandma keeps asking me when I will visit her. I just dunno. It’s so nice to see my hometown in your video. The dialect, the food, the airport, they just made me so homesick. Hopefully I can go back next year. Wish you and your family all the best! ❤

This was so emotional and raw to watch. Thank you for sharing the journey with us. My husband and I came back to England during covid and my son was born here and is now two. He still hasn’t met his Chinese grandparents and we don’t know when that will be. I just hope it can be soon, but ticket prices are so crazy.

I'm so happy to watch your journey back to China. I have missed seeing your Chinese family so much. I was especially happy to see you and your mother in law making food again. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the 'cooking with mama' videos. I can imagine being back in China is a massive culture shock for all of you except Yonghong. Your boys have grown up so much and don't look quite so alike now (in my opinion).
I'd love to see a video where you talk about your feelings as you had decided to buy a house in Sweden and than China was back on again. It must've been an absolute rollercoaster of emotions with you never quite knowing if you are up or down. Do you have any regrets? Would you have liked to stay on in Sweden? I'm sure you know the general questions I'm talking about. / Gena xxx

OMG! You two are amazing. Just by thinking of the so many “tasks” before getting on the flight back to China is already so stressful! My son is nearly 3, haven’t got chance to meet his grandparents. But you two managed bring two boys with so much challenges! May God bless your family! Have a lovely loooooooong holiday and family gathering! All the best

The reunion moment brought my tears. It really makes me missing my family in China. Me and my husband are Chinese, but, my son was born in Canada. We as a family were so lucky that we visited China just before pandemic. It's been almost 3 years we are not able to visit our family again. With current situation in China, we have no idea when we can start planning our trip again. I am so happy to see your family had reunioned after all the troubles you've gone through. Wish you the best! ❤

I’m so happy you finally made it back! That family dinner looked so amazing and your family looked so beautiful being reunited in China!!! When I saw the garden I felt so much comfort seeing it again because it had been so long and I love it! I didn’t even realize how much I missed it so I can imagine your family missed it so terribly bad.

Me and my husband are mixed relationship. Living in Germany with a 3years old. And we had such a hard time to go back to China after 3 years, as my mom was seriously sick. Spent a fortune on the tickets, didn’t manage it for the first time. No refund either. Luckily managed the trip at the end. And my mom’s situation is also getting better. Hardship did bring a lot of trouble to our trip in fact, but o the flip side it also reminded we both, how much we need and love each other, how much we hate to stay in different places.
